Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.23 With Full Japanese Language Support
« on: May 05, 2008, 09:57:19 am »
Well... after deleting libCRIM* and installing Meanie's ipk for Japanese support.  My Cacko 1.23 appears to be going well in the Japanese department.  My only problem is I've installed the dictionaries back from my CD-ROMs and created the symlinks to the /hdd3/dict1 and /hdd3/dict2 dirs.  But the dictionary and translator programs are still not seeing them.

About 2 years after getting my Z, and I'm working on learning Japanese.. too bad I wasn't doing that when I first got it.

I'm not sure what else needs to be done to get the dictionaries and translator working.

Any help is appreciated.. Thanks.

ztep, could you give a few details on your driver?
Is it compiled from the source supplied by sparklan?
I am guessing it is compiled using the sharp kernel source?
I am also guessing it is a firmware loader and not a complete driver?
If you can clarify these and any other points you had in building the driver it would be a big help as I am about to try the same.
Thanks,
Stan

I just purchased this card myself.  It appears to be a real driver ... just like for the other Marvell chips - but I'm having some difficulty compiling it.  Still not sure if it's a configuration issue in the Makefile or system.

For those that are having a hard time.. attached is the driver from the sparklan site.  Note: I haven't found any statement of what licence it is yet.

This card is also available under a different label at www.meritline.com ...  currently $35(US).  Don't know what shipping to Brazil would be.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / A Better Browser/config Or Faster Wifi?

Well .. at this point, if I knew I could run a QT based web browser on Cacko.. and also access this website efficiently - I wouldn't mind paying for a commercial browser.   But with an embedded device I'm a little leary of meeting those requirements - when performance concerns of the hardware appear to be somewhere between the physical limits and excellent programming.

Has anyone thought of creating a Gtk->Qt/E translation library for Mozilla on Qtopia?  Or would that already make a bohemith bigger?  Also what are the capabilities of Konqueror these days... I thought I saw something about a Qt/E port somewhere.  Anyone know anything about this.

I have a work related website I'd really like to access with my z.  For starters I will say this site can take minutes on a regular laptop at g speeds.  I have a CF-b card.  Opera 7 does not appear to fully load the pages properly(drop down menus aren't functional on the page).  Firefox does, but it takes an hour to get anything done.  I've requested that the company send me the list of services the browser must support for full operation.  Has anyone thought of updating Opera to version 8 or 9?  I'm not sure if these versions have all the features I need yet, but 7 is not hitting the mark.  I'm considering moving to an X based rom from Cacko.  But firefox seems to be slow no matter where it is.  My other delimma is I need video playback(xvid/mp3) - and cacko does that so well (no overclocking ).

Any advice how to configure this beast for the features I need would be greatly appreciated.  I hope to have more details in a few days.

Hi Rick

Its not a lock up at that point- your MD light was still flashing right? You just need to wait and wait and wait- first boot takes about 15 minutes or so to pass that point. Subsequent boots stalll there for about 5m

See my c3100 install guide (which I need to update to reflect bugs in 5.2 final)

Thanks.. that was exactly what was happening.  It's looking great.. any tips on movie playback for this distro and after some added packages.. it'll be great.
Thanks

Rick

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxii13 On The Sl-c3200

Hi Romulus,

Well, not that much too write....I just followed the 4 steps that Meanie instructed in post #27 in this thread:

1. flash pdaXrom beta3 (don't worry about the hdd for now)

2. flash pdaXii13 using the older updater.sh from http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/files/updater.sh

3. rerun the option to flash kernel and initrd

4. reboot

That's it! Actually it's really quite simple...(assuming that you've had some experience flashing a Zaurus before, if not, still OK, it's not that hard....)

Just used a CF with the pdaXrom B3 on it at the root level to do Step 1 and had put the other files for pdaXii13 in a folder on the CF card.

Then for Step 2, I just moved the pdaXrom B3 files into a folder and moved the pdaXii13 files (http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/tmp/ except for getting 'updater.sh' which I got from other link shown above) up to the root level of the card and did Step 2, which includes a few other steps....

A. Choose 'Option 3' to "Install kernel and bootloader".

B. Choose 'Option 4' to "Extract 'hdimage.tgz' (either 'base' or 'full', depending upon which one you downloaded and put on your card...I installed the 'full' version).

C. Choose 'Option 3' to "Install kernel and bootloader" again.

D. Choose 'Option 6' to reboot. It will take a few minutes for this first bootup...so be patient...eventually if all is OK, you'll see the display calibration screen. Do that and then the display will come back in a 'grayish looking dot pattern' with a little 'X' in the middle, then that will disappear and then the pdaXii13 desktop screen should show up.

[For more info, see 'Installation' section of Meanie's "Zaurus SL-C3000 - customising pdaXrom" document at"

http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/pdaxii13.html

This section has instructions as to how to flash your Zaurus and what order to do the steps of upgrading to pdaXii13.]

That's it!

ArchiMark .. Thanks for the procedure that you used.. however, I ran into some difficulty.

Originally, I started with Cacko and a factory configured hard drive.

1) Installed Beta 3 per the instructions given on the pdaXrom website
2) flashed NAND with pdaxii13
3) repartitioned with the recommended partition configuration
4) extract hd-full.tgz
5) reflashed nand with pdaxii13

I get a lockup at the following location on boot:
EXT3-fs: Unrecognized mount option quiet
 hda: hda1 hda2 hda3
 hda: hda1 hda2 hda3
 hda: hda1 hda2 hda3
 hda: hda1 hda2 hda3
kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds
EXT3 FS 2.4-0.9.19, 19 August 2002 on ide(3,1), internal journal
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
Check Battery!!!!! <--- not exact message on this line but something to that effect

If I repartition with the recommended format.. wiping out the hd-full.tgz, the unit boots up without a problem.

I'm not sure why this is..  Any help is appreciated

Rick
