6000 - Tosa / O.K. show of hands
« on: April 19, 2004, 01:29:43 pm »
I was hell bent on getting a 6000 and retiring the 5600 (with 802x) but I don\'t see any postings about handwriting recognition.  Yarn ago, I used the latest Newton 2K with Graffiti and was able to achieve my main objective, go exclusively to a PDA and dump my paper notebook.  I could take notes faster on the PDA than in my notebook (not to mention search it, upload it, bla bla bla).

Can I really do that with the 6000 better than the 5600?  To answer, you would have to tell me that the hand writing recognition is X better than the 5600.  I\'ve tried customizing the recognizer and using the key-pad.  It stinks, relegating it to be an organizer.

I need to be able to enter in text and outline commands without ever looking at the unit while I am focusing my eyes on the materials for a meeting or class.

6000 - Tosa / NEW SL-6000 Info, Very Informative
« on: April 01, 2004, 07:48:41 pm »
From the pictures, it looks like something that you would buy from a collective in old Russia.  Who did the industrial design on this, the same guy in E-germany that did the troby (sic)?

6000 - Tosa / sl-6000

I have a SL-5600 and was thinking of upgrading ASAP but am not a little cold on that idea.  The primary purpose was to integrate all the PIM stuff while also being able to ditch my notepad.  I was able to do that with my Newton (don\'t kill me ) because graffiti add on could recognize and push data as fast as I could write with VERY high accuracy.  The SL-5x is slow and even after training it Graffiti strokes it sucks as recognition.

Has any of this improved?  Because the processor is the same is the recognition software optimized any better.  While in meetings, I can\'t dork with the tiny keyboard and would prefer not to carry an external keyboard.

General Discussion / The FCC has the manual for the SL-6000
« on: January 26, 2004, 01:07:48 pm »
According to the manual (mirrored on this site), the SL-6000 does support IR, located on the side of the unit.  Is there something special about \"consumer IR\"?

Since they seem to be making four different models, why couldn\'t they make them with all the combinations of WiFi and Bluetooth? The SL-6000D should have Bluetooth rather than 128MB of Flash since that can be expanded with memory cards and then the range would satisfy everyone\'s requirements. I only want Bluetooth at this time and would buy a WiFi CF card later if needed. The SL-6000W is going to be way out of my price range

It\'s also a shame that none of the models have consumer IR, but I guess that musn\'t be a priority for Enteprises...
