Security and Networking / 802.1X client
« on: October 20, 2004, 12:13:55 pm »
I downloaded the Aegis client (there is a free trial download:) but I am running a c860.  The client is specifically written for the 6000.  One obious problem I see is the client seems to be hard coded for the wlan0 interface on the 6000.  I am using a Prism based (Socket ) CF wlan card which shows up as eth0.  Anyone know of a way to make this work on a c860?

IT WORKS!  With the original smb.conf file from Cacko.  (Cacko is great!)

Sharp ROMs / Editing smb.conf on Cacko ROM and wlan sync
« on: March 29, 2004, 03:26:58 pm »
The 1.20 version of the Cacko ROM has the smb.conf file in  /usr/lib.rom/samba (with a softlink in  /home/root/usr/lib/samba).  This is on device /dev/loop0 and is mounted ro.  I have tried to remount it as rw but I can not see how to do that.

I am trying to get wlan sync to work but I time out every time.  When I look at the smb.conf file the following appears:
interfaces  usbd0 eth0 ...
I would think this should work but ...

Any ideas?

General Discussion / wifi setup help

Good news for me!  I am using my Linksys card on my s870 right now.  Here is what I added to my wlan-ng.conf file :

card \"Linksys WCF12 11Mbps 802.11b WLAN Card\"
  manfid 0x028a, 0x0673
  bind \"prism2_cs\"

I added this as the first card, restarted the system and Yahoo!

The problem was that the card was not recognized. I changed the entry in the /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf for my card, rebooted and now it all works. I\'m connected.

I am having the same problem you described on my 860 with the Linksys WCF12.  What did you put in your wlan-ng.conf?  I have tried everything I can think of.  It currently reads:
card \"Linksys WCF12 11Mbps 802.11b WLAN Card\"
  version \"Linksys\", \"Wireless Compact Flash Card\", \"\", \"\"
  bind \"prism2_cs\"

When I run \"cardctl indent\" I get:

Socket 0:
  product info \"\"Linksys\", \"Wireless CompactFlash Card\", \"\", \"\"
  manfid: 0x028a, 0x0673
  function: 6 (network)

When I insert the card I get no messages in dmesg that the card was inserted.  When I run \"cardctl status\" I get:
Socket 0:
  3.3V 16-bit PC Card
  function 0: [ready]

Thanks.

General Discussion / How to access the "terminal"???
« on: February 27, 2004, 01:52:34 pm »
I have a c860 and I had the same question for a full day after getting mine.  The simple answer is there is an application icon for the \"Terminal\".  It is the very last application icon on mine.  I missed it for a full day and went crazy trying to create a shell icon.   How stupid can I feel?
