Zaurus - pdaXrom / Which Is The Fastest Wm?
« on: July 21, 2006, 02:53:44 pm »
Fastest  will be DWM (Dynamic Window Manager)

The developer says "dwm is only a single binary, it's source code is intended to never exceed 2000 SLOC"

Less than 2,000 lines of code!

http://wmii.de/dwm/

However, I personally use and love his 'bloated' (<10,000 SLOC) wmii windowmanager.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / A Plea For Help..
« on: March 23, 2005, 09:15:35 am »
Laze / pdaXrom team,

A small suggestion for you:  perhaps you could update your About us | Thanks to... page your website?  It has not been updated since August of last year.

It is possible that some people are perhaps like me and don't like when a contribution seems to be ignored.

I contributed one time to JeMi Web Design via paypal, but I don't even know if you received the money.  To a student with limited discretionary income, it looks as if my money went Poof!

Remember, you are competing against my beer fund!

Patrick.

Security and Networking / Can't Setup Usb Networking Under Debian
« on: December 30, 2004, 08:24:35 pm »
Hi all,

I can't seem to get USB networking going,  when I try in ping my C760 I get the following errors:

# ping -I192.168.129.1 192.168.129.201
PING 192.168.129.201 (192.168.129.201) from 192.168.129.1 : 56(84) bytes of data.
ping: sendmsg: Operation not permitted
ping: sendmsg: Operation not permitted

Wireless networking works fine though.

I have usbcore, ohci_hcd, ehci_hcd, usbnet, uhci_hcd modules loaded.

Interfaces:
iface usb0 inet static
    address 192.168.129.1
    pointopoint 192.168.129.201
    netmask 255.255.255.0

I've been stuck on this for days so thanks for any suggestions you may have,
Patrick.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Status Update..

An old assembly language joke, that I hope is not too relevant...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Most important missing/to be fixed in pdaXrom?
« on: October 27, 2004, 11:47:18 pm »
I would very much like to see pdaXrom have support for non-root users.

I'm not really comfortable with a *nix OS that doesn't have the concept of 'users'.
Running as user rather than root is something I rely on to protect myself from myself.  (yes, I have actually done rm -rf / some_directory as root).  I'm sure you can come up with many other good reasons too.

Thanks,
Patrick.

> 1. I've read that you can "brick" the thing if you make a mistake updating the ROM. How much of a danger is there really?

Not much danger, really.   The ROMs don't touch the bootloader, so you "always" have access to the service menus.

>2. Which ROM would people recommend for starters?
In your case, pdaXrom for sure.  Check that forum.  ver 1.1 is at RC2, and looks very good.  Only thing I don't like is that you pretty much have to do everything as root.

>3. How much of a nuisance are the Japanese characters on/near the keys?
None, Ctl and Alt are where my fingers expect them, with pdaXrom at least.

>4. How well does it work with Bluetooth? What card(s)
Don't know

FWIW, I'm very happy with my clamshell 760.

HTH,
Patrick.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / What do you prefer...

Surely the only shell any self-respecting Zaurus user should use is <drumroll> zsh! </drumroll>

More powerful than bash and only 2/3 the size!

Hi, I'm trying out xpda rom.

Hope I'm not missing something really simple, but I can't find rsync.
Or how else do pdax users connect with their home computers?

Thanks,
Patrick.
