6000 - Tosa / Where Is Guylhem's Libsdl For The 6000?
« on: July 24, 2005, 11:03:41 am »
Thanks alot for doing this, scheck.r., especially since you don't have a 6000L anymore.  Hope you're enjoying your C1000.

6000 - Tosa / Where Is Guylhem's Libsdl For The 6000?
« on: July 24, 2005, 12:30:20 am »
Hi,
The special libSDL for the 6000 that was compiled by Guylhem doesn't seem to be available on his externe.net/zaurus web site anymore.  Does anyone know somewhere else I can obtain it, or if someone can email it to me.  It would be greatly appreciated.  BTW, Guylhem, if you happen to read this and you're not too busy, would it be possible for you to put it back up on your site?  Thanks alot.

6000 - Tosa / Kismet on the 6000

Glad to hear you are having success. Actually if you _want_ to use vt100 you can, just change 'linux' to 'vt100' in my script. I think the real complain was that it didn't know where to get the terminfo. I changed mine to vt100 just to see if it would fix the "line drawing" problem, and it didn't. But Kismet works. I switched it back to 'linux' because I like the color output (vt100 was only b&w).

Let me know if you get sound working (I lack /usr/bin/play).

Happy sniffing,

The line drawing problem can be easily fixed by changing the simpleborders option in kismet_ui.conf to true, i.e. simpleborders=true.  As for sound, the kismet_3.0.1c-20031228_arm.ipk mentioned earlier in this thread has /usr/bin/play and the various required sound files.  You should be able to extract those files from the ipk.  Hope this helps.

6000 - Tosa / Fn Button Is Messed Up In Runlevel 3 Console
« on: January 13, 2005, 04:39:58 pm »
I recently noticed that the Fn button of my 6000L (Sharp 1.12 ROM) doesn't work properly in the run level 3 console, ie the one you get when you push the /? button after rebooting and then choosing option (a).  I have been using this console in order to start up Pocketworkstation using the fbvnc viewer.  The problem is that when I push the Fn button with any other key, it locks the keyboard into num-lock mode; pushing Fn again, or Fn- / does not release the num-lock.  I finally accidentally discovered that pushing shift-Tab would release the num-lock mode.  The Fn button works fine in Qtopia (eg in Qkonsole, the texteditor, etc).  I've rebooted, soft-reset, hard-reset, and wiped the flash (in order to re-load the 1.12 ROM), none of which has solved the problem.  I haven't flashed any other ROMs or kernels, and I'm bit unsure how any of the software that I've installed could have caused this.
Is it possible that this is a bug in the Sharp ROM?  Has anyone else who has used the run level 3 console noticed this, or is my situation unique?  I'd like to know before I attempt a NAND restore with the Sharp ROM. Any comments on this would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,
Patrick

6000 - Tosa / Weird Charging Behavior When Using Ac Adaptor
« on: December 27, 2004, 12:31:14 pm »
Thanks alot for your replies.  You have helped to reassure a new SL-6000L owner and saved me from having to call Sharp technical support, a fate worse than death    I'm still a bit confused as to why the charging circuitry would differ between the 5500 and the 6000L, but hopefully this doesn't have a negative impact on the 6000L's battery life.

6000 - Tosa / Weird Charging Behavior When Using Ac Adaptor
« on: December 24, 2004, 09:15:26 pm »
Hi everyone,

Just got my new SL-6000L last Friday, which is quite a nice upgrade from my >2 yr old SL-5500.  Haven't had that much time to do much with it, but I've noticed that if I'm using the unit after the battery is fully charged and it's still connected to the AC adaptor, suspending it causes the charging light to come on and stay on for some minutes, as if it had started another recharging cycle on the battery.  In addition, if I suspend while the battery is still charging, the charging light goes off and then comes back on quickly.  Neither of these things happen with the SL-5500, where the charging light stays off if you suspend it when the battery is fully charged and the unit is still connected to the AC, and suspending while the battery is charging doesn't cause the charging light to go off and on.

So, I was wondering whether this is normal behavior for the SL-6000L.  Does this happen to everyone else?  I do find this a little worrisome, since having the unit restart a charging cycle every time I suspend the unit when it's on AC may be detrimental to the battery's lifespan.  Does anyone know if this is true or not.  In any case, I would appreciate it if anyone would let me know if they have also observed this on their SL-6000L.

Thanks much,
Patrick

(And to those of you observing it, Merry Christmas.)

Security and Networking / firewalling on zaurus?
« on: November 10, 2004, 04:59:46 pm »
@cvmiller:

You can simply close ports 4992 and 4244 without resorting to iptables by editing /etc/inetd.conf, as indicated by this thread here which will refer you to this FAQ entry here on what to do exactly.  The poor security caused by these types of open ports in the Sharp Qtopia ROMs is an old problem starting with the SL-5000D and SL-5500.

The zauruszone.com forum posts have been offline for over a month now.  Does anyone know if Sharp is aware of this situation, and has anyone archived/mirrored these posts, which are a valuable resource for the Zaurus community??  Thank goodness the Zaurus DevNet forums have been archived and mirrored on this site (Thanks offroadgeek!).
