General Discussion / Newbie: Get a 5500 or 5600?
« on: March 04, 2004, 10:02:33 am »
FWIW, unless you are patient, I recommend *NOT BUYING A 5600*.  I wish I hadn\'t - the support for wireless cards if very weak in the Sharp roms, and there aren\'t any stable non-sharp ROMs out there that I am aware of.  Seeing as how I could have gotten the 5500 for only $200 from computergeeks.com, I would have done that in retrospect.

Granted, the wonderful OZ and TKC people will eventually get their stuff working on the 5600 (thanks guys!) but right now, having a 5600 is a pain in the butt.

For my part, I am running the Sharp 1.32 ROM with none of my network cards working, hoping and praying for a new ROM to come along and liberate me.  OZ 3.3.6 has great PCMCIA card support, but the fun stuff I want to run (u4, libSDL, etc.) doesn\'t seem to work quite right due to library issues, etc.

Sharp ROMs / Wellenreiter, Tckrom and ambicom card?

Will TKC support the 5600?  If you need a low-volume mirror, I can put one up on my server.

5x00 Hardware / 5600: hfa384x_corereset error - no wireless cards work?!
« on: February 27, 2004, 10:41:51 am »
I\'ve been fighting with my 5600 from the moment I bought it to get any wireless card working in a non-OZ image (note, I did have some luck with OZ 3.3.6, but it was too unstable to use).   I\'ve tried Zynergy, but ended up going back to the Sharp 1.32 image just so I could have as much stability as possible.

I\'ve tried three different cards, three different brands, all with no luck.  In particular, a Zonet ZCF1100 and a Ambicom WL1100C-CF.  They seem to be Prism_2 cards?  In all cases, It just won\'t go.  I keep getting an error about hfa384x_corereset not working properly.  Can anyone make sense of this??

It seems that it loads the drivers, and then suspends them??  I get similar looking messages regardless of which wireless card I use.

Security and Networking / Zaurus 5600 - Inconsistent Wireless Connectivity
« on: February 18, 2004, 07:29:37 pm »
Hey DZ, I have the same problem - wireless works randomly.  Sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn\'t.  There are references to doing this to fix it, but it hasn\'t worked for me.  Of course, I just got my Z and I don\'t really know the OS very well yet.

turn on WEP encryption at the command line:
iwconfig wlan0 key s:my_key
