so how many times have you flashed your zaurus with the cacko rom 1.23?  I have noticed flashing it many times over (at most 2 times) i begin to see problems with "lock-ups"  What I did to correct this problem is to flash the sharprom and then flashback to the cacko rom.

Now If I wanted to reset cacko rom to the original state, i would just format the userpartition in the flash utility of the cacko 1.23.  This helps me avoid the problem of flashing sharprom and then back to cacko 1.23 (but only after a successful first time cacko 1.23 flash)

Thanks Gents. Formatting the user partition was a bitter bill which did resolve the problem and i can use all the features of my device. It wasn't that bitter though because no one should be playing with the C3200 at this level without successfully doing a backup apriori.

All,

I am having some problems with the Cacko ROM 1.23 built-in utility to Add/Remove Programs to a C3200 device.

The utility was in good working order until recently when i realised that if I start it from the Settings Tab and subsequently choose the Install packages option the utility more or less freezes. Thereafter, some services of the C3200 device are no longer available.

I'll be grateful if anyone who has experience in this area is willing to give me some tips. I won't want to re-install the cacko ROM if I don't have to.

Any ideas?

Thanks in anticipation,
Ashu

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Hdd3 Mounted As Read-only
« on: May 16, 2006, 01:37:35 pm »
All,

The hdd3 partition of my C3100 hard disk is mounted as read-only. I have tried a number of ways to resolve this, still no joy.

The first strategy was to remount it with: mount -o remount.rw /dev/hdc3. This didn't work as I consistently get the "Device or resource busy" error message. I've also tried to add rw to the mount options in the /etc/fstab file, still no joy.

All be grateful for any hints in resolving this.

Thanks in anticipation,
Ashu

Is there a step-by-step guide for linux on the U100?

I've been thinking of buying it, but haven't found a concise Linuxization how-to for the U100.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=124630\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I have U100 with Ubuntu Breezy installed (dual boot WinXP, Ubuntu). No need for an howto, Linux will install as on any laptop! Ubuntu even detected the good screen resolution on the first boot (it's  1280x768 not classical 1280x1024). Internal wifi card is an atheros, which means it's perfectly supported under linux (madwifi driver).

I never use bluetooth so I can't tell, and yes the only missing feature is a driver for the authentec fingerprint reader.

I you are interested I am selling it, it's brand new (Libretto U100-105 (PLU10E-009024FR) with DVDRom mini docking station).
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=124639\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

The contributions here have certainly awaken my interest in the new U100. First some newbie questions, which one of you may kidly answer: Is Ubuntu another Linux distribution? Secondly, how easy is it to run Linux and Windows XP concurrently on the U100?  In previous ocassions I could only install linux virtually on a Windows XP Pro machine.

I am trying to figure the installation scenario for a new U100. It will come out of the box with Windows XP Home installed. Do I just chuck a linux distribution into the CD drive, re-claim part of the HardDisk space for Linux and proceed with the Linux installation? I can't envisage things being as easy as that.

I'll be grateful for any response to the above questions.

Cheers,
Chroafjd

Python / Python 2.4 Zaurus Image Available

The first release of my Python 2.4 image for the Zaurus is now available for testing The website has fairly complete download instructions. This hasn't had a huge amount of testing so be careful! (backup critical data, yada yada yada). If you do have problems, you can always go back to the previous version (old versions still available at Sourceforge).

Details of what to expect from this version have been covered in this topic. Feel free to report any problems here (but don't expect fixes until next week). Good luck and have a great weekend!

Hi Kopsis,

Thanks for the great job.

I didn't have problems installing your Python Image, and making it to work, on my Zaurus C3100. However, I can't get SQLite to work. I have had the ipk installed in Internal Memory as recommended and tried to invoke the application from the console by typing "sqlite". Nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in anticipation of any hints.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Cacko Rom 1.23 For C1000 Progress
« on: September 12, 2005, 10:22:05 am »
Hi All,

Who has managed to upload a "Wallpaper" onto the C3100 as a background image using the "Appearance" utility in Settings?

I tried this over the weekend on a C3100 device driven by the Cacko 1.23b ROM, and the machine just hung. Once you thick the "Wallpaper" checkbox, choose an  image file using the browser and select "OK" nothing happens. The "Appearance" Design pane will only close if no Wallpaper is selected.

Further, I wasn't able to play MP3 files stored in /hdd3/Documents/Music_Files using the "Music Player". It simply couldn't find the files although they were definitely in the file system. I could only get the Music Player to work with files stored on an SD and CF cards.

Any clues?

Thanks in anticipation,
Ashu

C1000/3x00 General discussions / C3100 Microdrive Disappears
« on: September 11, 2005, 06:47:52 am »
I also have this problem of my microdrive, and all other cards, disappearing on the C3100. At first I was puzzled as to what was going on, but the postings here have shed some light to the mystery.

I am using the Cacko 1.23b ROM as son far there doesn't seem to be a way to properly switch off the Zaurus using "Suspend" on the QT Menu/ Merely pressing "Suspend" doesn't work.

Hence, the battery gets depleted and I can only switch on the device again using the power supply.

Who has experienced something similar or has an idea of how to properly suspend the C3100 running on Cacko 1.23b?

Thanks in anticipation,
Ashu

Could it be something related to the microdrive powering down - then either there not being enough power to spin it up again, or your Z not telling it to wake up again?

Clutching at straws I'm afraid,

Si
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=95347\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

That occurred to me. I think this started when I had my powerbook connected to the Zaurus with the USB cable while at the same time having the bluetooth card inserted. I was running off of battery at the time. So maybe there was too much power drawn somehow. However, I'm pretty sure I've done the same thing with my w-fi card inserted and had no problems, and bluetooth should be lower power than wi-fi, so I don't get it. I'm going to use it for a while and see what happens.

On the bright side, I was able to finally get on the internet through my RAZR.    So I guess bluetooth itself is working OK.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Deleting Japanese Dictionary Leftovers ....
« on: September 10, 2005, 08:43:00 am »
All,

Who can point me to a post, or give me a hint, on how to delete the any japanese left overs from the jap/english conversion? I don't see myself needing any japanes stuff and will like to free some microdrive space.

I understand the chunk of the jap files is on the /hdd3 partition and will appreciate a clever way to get rid of this as well as other japanese installed programs without upsetting system stability.

Thanks in anticipation,
Ashu

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Sl-c3100 Syncing With English Software
« on: August 26, 2005, 05:49:31 am »
All,

One of the problems owners of the C3000 had to live with is that unlike the C860 it wasn't possible to sync the device with the English version of the Sharp software.

Syncing is only possible using the original software distribution from the CDs. The problem here is that all the GUIs will be in Jap.

Is this the same scenario for the C3100? Has anyone managed to syn the device with a Windows XP PC using the english software drivers?

Thanks in anticipation,
Ashu

Hi,

I don't know whether or not they are still trading, but before ordering check the post

for lots of unhappy feedback .... then it's up-to-you.

I don't think they are still in business, maybe unofficially. I tried to order some stuff from them a couple of months ago but ran into a dead-end.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Upgrading C3k To C3100
« on: August 19, 2005, 05:00:32 am »
Quote
Thanks to my experience with the c3000, I realize now that I should have kept my c860 and wait for the c3100.

the 16mb flash seems, for everyone, to be a real constraint : Some distro won't be developped on it because it needs to much modifications.

Why PdaXrom (for instance) is already available on c1000 and not on c3000 ?
What about cacko ? (will be available on c1000/C3100) and not on c3000 as maslovski said today

So now I know that I have the more expensive brick in the world.

My question is (like probably a lot of c3k owners ) : is it technically possible to upgrade the 16mb flash to 128 ?
If yes, so we can hope to have a C3100-like

At what price ?

Probably Trisoft/Streamline have an answer ?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=92331\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Hi there, you're certainly not alone in this wisdom of hindsight.

I too must voice my frustraton with my C3000. Though the hdd is certainly an advantage, I couldn't get some of the programs running on my C860 to run reasonably well on the C3000. Some apps will make the machine freeze outrightly.

Now that there's talk of the Cacko 1.23 Rom driving the C3100 I'll be givien up on my C3000.

Anybody interested in getting a fairly new C3000, english converted, should please get in touch by PM.

Kind Regards,
Ashu

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Cacko3k Feedback
« on: May 14, 2005, 05:37:23 pm »
Dear All,

To all you senior Zaurus users now trying the Cacko3K Rom: Has there been any break through in getting the C3000 device to sync with a WindowsXP host PC using the english version of the software drivers?

So far syncing with this device has been limited to using the drivers and Qtopia version, which came with the distribution CD.

Thanks in anticipation of any response,
Ashu

Hi fuco,

Congrats on your new Z!

Check the other posts on the forum, this issue has already been addressed several times.

Good luck,

Hi Mark,

I have followed the discussion thread in the forum on syncing the SL-C3000 with the english version of the driver software and Qtopia Desktop. Is it safe to conclude that syncing with the english software is not possible? I haven't read anywhere that somebody managed to get the english syncing working.

The alternative seems to be going for the syncing drivers on the SL-C3000 distribution CD, but there too the is the issue with jap fonts.

If syncing with the english software is in the mean time possible, please forward me relevant pointers.

Thanks in anticipation,
Ashu

Hi Stu,

I have to live with the fact that I may never get my C3000 fully converted to english. The squares keep coming up at odd places.

I will however like to get rid of all the jap stuff.  I gather your script can handle this and will be greatful if you can let me use it.

Thanks in anticipation,
Ashu
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

The best place to get my script is from [a href=\"http://www.wbcd.org/computing/zaurus/part_12.html]http://www.wbcd.org/computing/zaurus/part_12.html[/url] (I've posted it to the forums before but some people have had problems cutting and pasting it). Full details available here about what the script does if you want to try it manually or want to see what the script is going to do.

Note: I haven't got a C3k so I have no way of knowing whether the script will work 100%, but it doesn't delete anything but symlinks so it shouldn't do any damage. However you should do a backup in case you need to restore the unit.

good luck

Stu

Stu,

Many thanks for your reply and for the conversion utilities.

It worked pretty well on my C3000. The directives on your webpage are pretty helpful.

One small problem: After doing the convertion the font appearance on the desktop changed from 'thick' to 'normal'. How do I revert the default font appearance to 'thick'? There is indeed an option on the 'Font' tab, in the "Settings"->"Appearance" menu but that doesn't seem to work. I reckon there is certainly a config file which handles desktop font thickness.

Thanks in anticipation,
Ashu

Don't think the cacko rom will flash properly on the C3k - you will have to wait till they make a version for the C3k.

If you want to convert yourself there are basically 2 options:

1) change /home/zaurus/Settings/locale.conf to read 'en' or 'zh_TW' instead of 'ja' for the language setting.

2) remove the qm translation files in /home/QtPalmtop/i18n/ja and comment out the various lines in .desktop files that have the japanese names of programs. I wrote a script that does this and it basically follows the info here http://mspencer.net/stuff/c700conv.html
