OpenBSD / 4.3 Snapshot - New And Improved Install/enjoyment Docs, Etc
« on: August 26, 2008, 01:07:55 pm »
Hello gen2,

Great tutorial you have made. But before I start adventuring my Z with an OpenBSD installation (and I will very soon), I need to solve some questions:

1- I see that the snapshot you used was from June. We're now in August. If I use the latest snapshot avaiable your compiled packages may be broken if I install them over this install, right? So, to use your compiled packages, I need to use the snapshot you used (avaiable in the link above), right?

2- Assuming that I am right in the questions above, you need to provide the ports.tar.gz you are using (from the snapshot you used) to people (like me) that may need or test other apps that you did not compile until now.

Thanks in advance for the attention,

Debian / Usb-webcam Stupid?
« on: April 16, 2008, 04:05:51 pm »
Actually, it can be a driver problem.

Witch model is your camera? Does it work on a normal Linux box? If so what is the driver used?

Maybe it's a good idea to see if it's supported by spca drivers (for 2.4.xx) or the 2.6.xx gpcav drivers. Are these drivers available to install in armel? Did anyone try
to compile them for armel repositories?

My guess is that it is a driver problem. Put your full dmesg text when you plug the camera with your powered hub for us to see what is happening.

Debian / Scummvm
« on: April 11, 2008, 01:56:44 pm »
Hello to all,

I've installed scummvm 0.11 in the debian tree and I've had some problems playing "The Dig":

- No sound played (in xmms it is playing fine)
- It's much slower than 0.10 in Angstrom and 0.8 in Cacko

Does anyone experienced this too? Is there any workaround or a version that works better?

Thanks in advance,

Debian / Dualbooting/multiplebooting With Kexec!
« on: April 07, 2008, 11:00:53 pm »
Hello all,

No problems "kexecuting" Debian under Angstrom. Network and all worked fine (made an apt-get update to test it). Installed kexec-tools from Zdevil and made an "kexec -f zImage" (from the Cacko kernel) and it worked. How do I configure reboot on Debian to reboot in the clean way to Cacko?

Now we can have three working systems on the same Zaurus (mine is a SL-C3200)!!!

If someone wants the specs of the system to try, please ask.I can make a short tutorial for Zdevil to update the first post. What do you think?

Best regards,

glac

PS.: We could set the SD slot free for Debian if we use the youngun kernel for hda4 (to do so we would have to set the swap to an extended partition). Just an idea.

Debian / Dualbooting/multiplebooting With Kexec!
« on: April 07, 2008, 01:12:35 pm »
Hello all,

I have a "dualboot" configuration with Angstrom+Cacko that works well (apart from the packages that don't work well or don't work at all on Angstrom).
As Zdevil tested and stated, it's possible to kexec a Debian on a SD, then we can have Angstrom "kexecuting" Cacko on flash or Debian in the SD and Debian "kexecuting" Cacko on Flash. The only one that will not be "kexecuted" is Angstrom by Debian (that's not needed, you simply have to reboot).
Tonight I'll post the results of this three systems boot options.

Bye,

Sharp ROMs / Restoring Original Firmware On Z C3200

Just to add some info that none has confirmed until now in the forums, it's possible to do a nand restore from a SD card (on a SL-C3200 at least).

Debian / Mplayer Pxa Vs Sdl
« on: December 11, 2007, 02:11:44 pm »
Hello to all,

After installing Debian EABI with the Zdevil's rootfs, I had to install younggun's mplayer to have pxa and to have a usable mplayer (the newer one hangs with sdl and do not have pxa support) to view my VGA videos.

Sadly, the mplayer pxa supports only 480x640 videos (not 640x480 ones as 2or0) and to view then I have to use -vf rotate=1 and this software rotation slows down all the pxa optimisations.

I reencoded (rotated my video) and ran mplayer with pxa and it ran well, except that if I ran the video two times in a row, it does a segmentation fault and sometimes crash my system. Another problem with pxa is that sometimes some vertical white lines appears now and then (sometimes only that lines appears and not the video).

For my surprise, when I changed to the sdl output, the speed is almost the same (very little slower) of the pxa (because it's already rotated - and remember, the sdl rotates if needed then it slows down because of it - pxa doesn't even rotate) without the white lines.

I don't see any gain in using pxa because for me it's buggy and I still need to reencode (rotate) to get any performance that I gain with sdl too and it's more stable then pxa output.

Also, when I try to run mplayer with my system overclocked to 624 MHz, my system hangs.

Does anyone have a different experience (with 640x480 with pxa or 480x640 with pxa or sdl)? Does anyone know how to run mplayer with the system overclocked without hanging?

The video I was using was encoded with Xvid, 640x480 (the 480x640 is the same one rotated).

Thanks for the attention,

glac.

Debian / A Clean, Fresh, Configured Eabi Rootfs Tarball
« on: December 10, 2007, 08:29:21 am »
I'm using Debian EABI 2.26.23.9 Y on mine SL-C3200 with the first Zdevil's tarball. I have one question:

How do I overclock my system? When I try to use cpuoverclock.py in X, everytime I change the clock and I hit ok, nothing happens. Some messages appear in my console complaining of a config file not being found. Is there any other way to overclock in console mode? Or is there any fix of this script? Maybe I could try reinstalling younggun's cpuoverclock and see what happens.

Debian / Installed Debian
« on: December 10, 2007, 05:03:32 am »
Well, good to know that It's not my hardware that is different from everyone else.

Is there any way I can modify the mplayer code to prevent me from reenconding my videos to see in my Z?

At least there is a solution. What do you do to? You just reencode your videos to play in your Z or you simply don't use it for watching videos.

Wich program do you recomend to do this job?

Thanks for the reply!

Debian / Installed Debian
« on: December 09, 2007, 10:11:29 am »
Hello 2or0 and all,

I've made exactaly what kkazakov13 made. Installed the new zdevil tarball and the mplayer installed there did not have the pxa support (maybe it's because of the upgrade status of the tarball). I've installed your mplayer and when I try to use -fs with mine 640x480 videos, on some there is the /dev/fb2 error and on others there is this error:

vo_pxa: config() FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO to fd failed: 22

When I use -vm -fs or only -vm, the video is bigger than the screen (seems like a VGA in a QVGA screen).
What can I do to track the error? So we know the pxa is really there (if not the -vm would not work), the problem should be with the framebuffer library, what should I try to reinstall or install?

Thanks,

glac

Debian / A Clean, Fresh, Configured Eabi Rootfs Tarball
« on: December 08, 2007, 10:43:31 pm »
Hello Zdevil,

Thanks for your excellent work. I've installed it on my C3200 and it's working very well (the wifi card is connecting very very fast and flawlessly).
The only remark I have to do is that, in the new tarball, the mplayer installed does not have the pxa driver option. I've had to install the younggun ones to make it work with pxa (I'm having troubles with aspect correction in pxa but I'll open another topic to deal with it).
I have the 2.6.23.9 kernel installed, are the modules of that kernel already in the tarball (if so, the first topic must be coreected).

Thanks,

glac

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Compiling Joy2key
« on: October 09, 2007, 07:42:22 am »
I'm trying to compile joy2key for my pdaxii13 SL-C3200. I tried two methods:

- Mounted the zgcc3.4.6 squashfs form Meanies
- Installed gcc-3.4.6, gcc3.4.6-headers, make and binutils

In both cases, when the compiler tries to link the joy2key.o with the X11 libraries (-LX11), it complains about undefined reference to the X used functions.

Could anyone try to compile this application to see what's going wrong with it?

I'll post the configure, and make outputs as soon as I can.

Hope that you can help me on this.

Thanks,

glac

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxii13 And Spcagui Problem
« on: October 03, 2007, 10:09:32 am »
Hello to all,

I have a genius Webcam Messenger that is well recognized by the spcaxx driver. When I use gqcam everething goes well. But when I try to use spcagui, after identifying what resolutions the cam supports it do not open the gui and the system hangs completely.
I have a SL-C3200 and I'm running pdaxii13 5.4.9. If anyone have any suggestions of what is going wrong or how to slove it, I'd appreciate.

Thanks,

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Want Compiled Thread?
« on: October 03, 2007, 09:59:16 am »
Hello to all,

I was searching the forum for a versin of joy2key for pdaXrom, but only found a version for the cacko rom. Could anyone compile it for me, tell me how do I do it or simply tell me a place where I can find this package for pdaXrom? Playing snex9x-sdl without a joy is a pain.

Anyway, the source code of the program can be found here: http://www.xs4all.nl/~rensg/Joy2Key.html

Another package I'm looking for but I know is already compiled somewhere is kde for pdaxii13, if anyone knows where I can find it I would be grateful.

Thanks,

glac
