Software / swapfile help and general problems
« on: March 04, 2004, 03:46:21 am »
ok, im probably a little more interested in an actual swapfile and would like a 32m one like suggested above. i can run the dd part without issue and create the file the problem comes when i use the command \"mkswap\" it tells me there isnt such a command. so im not sure how i activiate the swap and tell the system to use it after making it. once again this is all under oz 3.3.5 on a 5500 with 256sd. once i do get it active i would really like to make some sort of script that would boot with the zaurus and turn the swap on as well as mount my shared drive with smbount.

one reason im trying this swap file is because the gba emulator visualboyadvance 1.6a returns the error could not allocate memory for rom. when there should be plenty to allocate. if this is not the answer i need i would still like to use a swap for enhanced performance.

but if there is a way to manually allocate memory to a program please let me know so i can give that a shot as well.

Software / swapfile help and general problems

hey little confused on your howto site, i went through and changed the script in the init.d

is that all i have to do? the swapfile i attepmted to create was only 16mb cause it gave an error otherwise. i would like maybe a 64mb swapfile seeing as how i have plenty of room on the sd card. also the name of it was just swapfile does it need to be named swap for this script to worK?

Software / swapfile help and general problems

hey, got almost everything i want going with the exception of some sort of wireless network sniffer, kismet and wellenreiter are no go. but right now im trying to get a swapfile going. i found a thread

http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?n...t=memory+applet

showing how to make one in the konsole but, when i try and use mkswap it says no such command exists. so im not sure what to do past the dd part. also tried to get the memory applet to work so i could use that, but when run it gives only the message \"SIGSEGV\" and wont execute. also once the swap is operational what tells programs to go to it instead of the active memory? does it just use it when its critically low or does it operate more like windows

as far as kismet goes i got it working on tkc with javab0y\'s kernel but only if i used an older verion of kismet and kismetqt. on oz either of em work and just tell me that it cant connect to server. wellenreiter i had at least starting on a previous flash but now i cant get it to start at all due to failure of a shared file which is installed. i think i fixed it last time with a symlink but i lost the thread explaining what and how (not exactly linux competent). and even when it started it didnt detect.

so any help on any of these issues is appreciated.

Software / vba on 5500?
« on: March 01, 2004, 11:20:42 pm »
hey took the advice and grabbed version 1.6 of vba got it installed and made some progress though now it seems to attempt to run then tells me it could not allocat memory for the app. i had in installed in ram first then moved it to the 64mb cf card. both ways resulted in the same error, is there anything i can do to manually allocate the memory it can use and where to go for it? also im assuming to run the rom from my cf card i would input the following \"VisualBoyAdvance /mnt/cf/emu/romname.gba\" which is what i tried among various other ways. thanks for the info so far as ive definately got further than i was. any future help wll be appreciated.

Software / vba on 5500?
« on: February 28, 2004, 05:10:27 am »
hate to post another problem so soon but this ones been eatin at me since i got ahold of this thing.

ive been trying to no avail for several hours a day to get vba running on this 5500 with oz 3.3.5. ive used libsd-1.2.5 and 1.2.6 and just about every other one i could find ive also installed zlib as i saw somewhere it was one of the dependencies. then i finally run the vba 1.7 ipk.

so i fire up konsole and run \"VisualBoyAdvance rom.gba\" and it returns the text \"SIGILL\" then i tried just VisualBoyAdvance and i still get SIGILL. and with such a limited knowledge of linux im left pretty clueless. ive searched google and these forums but gba emulation on the zaurus doesnt seem to be a hot topic anywhere except one site thats all in japanese ( http://www.suhami.net/zaurus/index.cgi?Emulator%2fVBA )

on a side note, nearly every ipk i install i get at least one \"failed to link /mnt/ram/. to /.\" and then often times several other failed links. which im sure isnt good but more often than not the program fires up anyway.

but if anyone can point me to a detailed n00b friendly tutorial site regarding gba emulation on oz, or would be able to walk me through it i would be much appreciative.

Software / wellenreiter problems
« on: February 28, 2004, 02:38:13 am »
new zaurus owner here got a 5500 from my friend with a dlink 660w wireless card and flashed it with oz 3.3.5. being relatively new to linux i had a few problems initially but after several reflashes everything seems to be going smoothly.

only problem ive got left is with getting a wardriving utility operating on the thing. ive searched this and a few other forums high and low for a possible solution. ive seen suggestions i need to reflash with a wireless enabled kernel and others saying that my card should work fine as is.

it took me long enough to actually get wellenreiter running but now that it actually starts it doesnt pickup any networks and i dont get any errors. i went into the config options and changed the driver to everything available in the list with no luck. ive also tried kismet console style and with the gui frontend that one didnt work either. so now im here with no clue what to do to get this thing going.

any help will be much appreciated

thanks,
