vba on 5500?
« on: February 28, 2004, 05:10:27 am »
hate to post another problem so soon but this ones been eatin at me since i got ahold of this thing.

ive been trying to no avail for several hours a day to get vba running on this 5500 with oz 3.3.5. ive used libsd-1.2.5 and 1.2.6 and just about every other one i could find ive also installed zlib as i saw somewhere it was one of the dependencies. then i finally run the vba 1.7 ipk.

so i fire up konsole and run \"VisualBoyAdvance rom.gba\" and it returns the text \"SIGILL\" then i tried just VisualBoyAdvance and i still get SIGILL. and with such a limited knowledge of linux im left pretty clueless. ive searched google and these forums but gba emulation on the zaurus doesnt seem to be a hot topic anywhere except one site thats all in japanese ( http://www.suhami.net/zaurus/index.cgi?Emulator%2fVBA )

on a side note, nearly every ipk i install i get at least one \"failed to link /mnt/ram/. to /.\" and then often times several other failed links. which im sure isnt good but more often than not the program fires up anyway.

but if anyone can point me to a detailed n00b friendly tutorial site regarding gba emulation on oz, or would be able to walk me through it i would be much appreciative.

thanks,

Can\'t help much with the signal problem.  What I can say is that vba 1.7 does run on an SL5600.  The bad news is that it seems pretty much unplayably slow.  I\'ve disabled sound (I think) and set it to auto frame skip.

Have you tried many different games?  Many may not work at all.  Some should.  But again the speed may make it a non-starter.

Good luck.

I had the exact same problem as you, I simply installed an earlier version and all went well...  Until I realised just how slow it ran.  Go download an older version to see for yourself, it\'s unbearable.

hey took the advice and grabbed version 1.6 of vba got it installed and made some progress though now it seems to attempt to run then tells me it could not allocat memory for the app. i had in installed in ram first then moved it to the 64mb cf card. both ways resulted in the same error, is there anything i can do to manually allocate the memory it can use and where to go for it? also im assuming to run the rom from my cf card i would input the following \"VisualBoyAdvance /mnt/cf/emu/romname.gba\" which is what i tried among various other ways. thanks for the info so far as ive definately got further than i was. any future help wll be appreciated.

thanks,
