Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Wordgame knows no words at all?
« on: November 12, 2004, 01:25:34 pm »
In reply to zenyatta's post on Nov 12 2004, 08:36 AM:

Thanks!

I downloaded that file, but it's named words.2.txt. I saved it to my SD card. Then i tried to make a symlink to it, but i'm having trouble getting it to work.

root@collie:/opt/QtPalmtop/etc/dict# ln /mnt/card/opt/QtPalmtop/etc/dict/words.2.txt words
ln: words: No such file or directory

Total Linux newbie here, so i'm sure i'm doing something wrong. Would somebody be able to point out what my error is?

UPDATE: Using WinSCP and trial-and-error i got it to work. Still not sure what i did wrong earlier or right this time though!  I first tried making it a symbolic link, but that didn't work. Now that i created it without it being a symbolic link, it worked. So i guess i'll go digging in the Linux documentation to figure out how to properly do this, then start from scratch again to make sure i understand it.

Thanks for the help guys!

The best i could find was this:

http://ibot.rikers.org/opie/20030404.html.gz
http://ibot.rikers.org/opie/20020823.html.gz

Some people are asking / talking about this same stuff it sounds like (search for wordgame).

Somebody said to install opie-i18n-{your_language} .. I tried this (installed to SD, then ipkg-link), but that didn't solve it.

Somebody else said something about /root/Applications/Dictionary/WordGame.dawg. I looked on my Z, and the file is there, but it appears to be empty (and only 48 bytes).

I guess i should try to find a WordGame.dawg file somewhere. It's not part of the package...?

Hmmm... So how could i go about finding out about that? I'm still fairly new to this, so i don't really know where i'd go next.  Any pointers you can give me perhaps?

Thanks!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Which feeds to use for OZ 3.5.1?
« on: November 11, 2004, 10:19:03 am »
Thanks for the feedback.

One of the problems i ran into and that sparked this question was that i tried to install something that required a package that wasn't in either of these 2 feeds. (I think it was gzlib or something like that.) So i started digging and got lost. I tried to use the other feeds, and sure enough, it caused some problems here and there. Tricky stuff, especially for a newbie like me

It'd be great if the team could add a preconfigured ipkg.conf to each release. Not sure that's 100% feasible, but it'd help people like me get started at least.

Good job on this whole OZ thing. I like it. Keep it up!

I'm a little lost as to which feeds i should use for ipkg in OZ 3.5.1 on my 5500. Right now i have:

src oz http://openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.1/feed/
src oz_upgrade http://openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.1/upgrades/

I debated if i should add some of these perhaps:

src opie http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/stable/openzaurus/
src zug http://www.zaurususergroup.com/feed/
src familiar http://familiar.handhelds.org/releases/v0.7.2/base/armv4l

I just don't know which ones are proper to use for this version of OZ and which ones aren't. I checked out the opie site, but that isn't much help either. On this page the list a bunch of feeds:

http://opie.handhelds.org/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/Feed

But i'll be damned if i understand which one i should use!

Why doesn't OZ ship with a preconfigured ipkg.conf? Maybe that's something you guys can add for us newbies to get us started?  Because if you set that up, you can tell newbies to just do the "upgrade" in the package manager after flashing to get the latest stuff.

Sort of newbie here, so go easy on me...

I installed OZ 3.5.1 on my 5500. I have a 512MB SD card that i install most things to. I installed Wordgame from the OZ feed (using ipkg and ipkg-link). Then when i go to play it, it seems it doesn't know any words.  On the original Sharp ROM version, it at least had a built-in dictionary of some sort.  What is missing? What do i need to do to add a dictionary to this game? Right now it's a wordgame without words, so not much of a game!

Thanks
