Are you talking about a flash image? If so, I presume you did this before formatting it as ext2?
I formatted the SD card as ext2 on linux and copied the updater.sh, zImage.bin and initrd.bin onto the card. Then installed OZ/Opie from the card. All this worked like a charm.

fsck.ext2
fsck.ext2 isn't there. My linux box reads the card fine so I don't think its a corrupted filesystem.
Just reflashed the C860 with cacko rom, and now it can cd to any subdirectory.
Must the card be formatted as ext2 on OZ, or should it recognize ext2 from a linux box?

Ahh, thanks

Formatted 512MB sd card with ext2 and installed oz/opie 3.5.3 from it. Works like a charm
Mounting the card also works fine.
However, cd to any subdirectory gives an i/o-error.
In addition I can't find mkfs.ext2. Doesn't it come standard with the filesystem package?

Any idea what is going on?

Software / Kde-pim/pi 2.0.16 Release
« on: February 12, 2005, 07:06:48 pm »
Great to see OM/pi and KA/pi work together
One issue with kopiemail and pop.

It seems that each time the inbox folder of an account is selected the entire content is downloaded from the server.
I've got about 100mails in there and that takes a while. Meanwhile om/pi remains frozen. After all mail is downloaded I can browse the email list and read email. Then, select another folder and then go back to the inbox, same thing again.

Disconnect the zaurus and OM/pi tries to download again, and remains unresponsive for the rest of the evening.

Awesome.
Thank you  for all the hard work Laze and the whole pdaXrom team, including everyone that contributes to the feeds.
You have changed the face of many zaurus'es and paved the way for a serious foothold in the pda market.
Time to give the team a 'christmas present' and donate.

Update
rebooting, logging on, starting X.
Woot, success! Now to try out the apps..

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Evolution Anyone?
« on: December 20, 2004, 12:41:29 am »
I don't want to scare you but there are *a lot* of dependencies you have to provide:
From Gentoo evolution-1.4.6 ebuild (sorry, I don't have the 1.5 version):
Quote
RDEPEND="=gnome-extra/libgtkhtml-3.0.10*
        =gnome-extra/gal-1.99.11*
        =net-libs/libsoup-1.99.28*
        >=gnome-extra/yelp-2.2
        >=gnome-base/orbit-2.8.2
        >=gnome-base/libbonoboui-2.0
        >=gnome-base/gnome-vfs-2.0
        >=gnome-base/libgnomeui-2.0
        >=gnome-base/libglade-2.0
        >=gnome-base/libgnome-2.0
        >=dev-libs/libxml2-2.5
        >=gnome-base/gconf-2.0
        >=gnome-base/libgnomecanvas-2.2.0.2
        >=gnome-base/libgnomeprintui-2.2
        >=gnome-base/libgnomeprint-2.2
These are mandatory dependencies (there are more optional). You will have to include builds for these packages. (ergo, most of gnome-base)

The 2.0.2 ebuild:
Quote
RDEPEND=">=gnome-extra/libgtkhtml-3.2.3
        >=gnome-extra/gal-2.2.3
        >=gnome-extra/evolution-data-server-1.0.2
        >=net-libs/libsoup-2.2.1
        >=dev-libs/glib-2
        >=dev-libs/libxml2-2
        >=gnome-base/gconf-2
        >=gnome-extra/yelp-2.5.1
        >=gnome-base/libglade-2
        >=gnome-base/gnome-vfs-2
        >=gnome-base/libbonoboui-2.4.2
        >=gnome-base/libgnomecanvas-2.0

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Are you running pdaXrom and for what?
« on: December 08, 2004, 07:27:20 pm »
Currently using C860 for:
- checking email (sylpheed-claws)
- browsing internet (firefox)
- watching pictures (GQview)
- listening to mp3 (xmms)
- remote terminal (SSH)

Things that don't work but should
- PDA: address book synchronized with desktop (ka/pi)
- PDA: calendar/todo synchronized with desktop (ko/pi)
- WiFi AP locator (Kismet - stops gathering packets after a few seconds)

On the todo list:
- listen streaming radio (mplayer?)
- watch streaming video (vlc 0.8 - watch tv and mythtv recordings)
- IM: msn, icq, jabber
- remote desktop (both ways) ?
- remote control ?
- ... much much more .. later on

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Oops not all packages from unstable are stable
« on: October 18, 2004, 03:32:02 am »
Heh thanks for the tips everyone.

Yes Iamasmith, I am using a 121MB root fs. Just removed the /home mount line in fstab as indeed that one isn't needed anymore. Good tip.
The other errors still come up during boot but it doesn't seem to affect normal operation.

Scountme, that is a good workaround. Agreed we should only use RC5 packages and got them mixed up with RC3 by accident. Its good to know the package to fix it as reflashing was a bit of a brute force recovery method. Kinda like selling the car when you have a flat tire

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Oops not all packages from unstable are stable
« on: October 15, 2004, 05:40:44 am »
I tried again and things went wrong with the 'additional fonts' (freetype?) package. This package screws up the X-fonts configuration.I also had this in RC2 and RC3.
I probably had the wrong feed. This is a problem in RC2/3 only because in RC5 its preinstalled.

Another problem is that the battery drains very quickly. The 1500mAh battery is empty within 30-45 minutes. This is with Wifi, but even then its faster than ever before.

Hi, using RC5
Just installed a series  of packages from unstable and rebooted the Z.
Yes its unstable indeed.
Don't recall which packages exactly but be warned, some of them really screw up the system.
---
 dmesg spews out things like:
- cramfs: wrong magic
- FAT: bogus logical sector size 381
   Inode #8594 was a directory with children - removing those too...
   (11 more of these)
- Freeing init memory: 152K
   jffs: Too few erase blocks(0)
- Partition check:
   VFS: register(part1): could not append to parent, err: -17
   (three more of these)

startx fails with the following message:
Fatal server errror:
Could not open default font 'fixed'
---

My guess is that the extra fonts packages screwed up the basic font config, but I'll have to verify that.
Anyway, just a heads-up. I'm going to  reflash RC5 and do the same thing step by step.
Cheers,

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Thank You for bringing PdaXrom to ours Z

Wow what a difference a RC makes.
Just installed RC5 from RC3, and holy smokes, its fast!
I almost gave up because it was so slow, but most apps now are as fast, or faster, as the sharp ROM.

Well done team pdaXrom! Very impressive.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Kathrin RC3 ready..
« on: September 08, 2004, 05:44:11 pm »
Nice work pdaXrom team! Way to go!
Below some early experiences. Hopefully they are somewhat helpful.

Flashing - okay
Just reflashed from RC2 to RC3 on a C860. The flashing went smooth and flawless. RC2 was installed with one full root partition of 121MB.

Screen - works fine, no flicker
After switching the device on the screen flickers a bit but then it stabilizes.

Taskbar icons disappear - bug
Lost all icons on the task bar simply by opening up 'look & feel' and clicking OK. It restarts X (or mb) and after matchbox shows the taskbar is empty. This is obviously a bug. It is reproducable.
Adding applets and buttons back is easy and works fine.

Wifi configuration - okay
Configured wifi (using Socket CF card) by creating a new profile and setting network type to wireless, auto DHCP and auto DNS, using my AP's ESSID and 128 bit WEP hex key. Immediately after clicking 'Ok' a connection was made and internet connectivity was restored. Beautiful!

Window resize problem
Opened up the default installed applications. Found that I can't resize some applications by dragging the bottom right corner (although the cursor changes shape to indicate it is resizing). Could not resize any of the office applications. All of the internet applications were fine however.
It is nice to see applications that remember their screen position and size. Some don't however and especially when they start up too large it is slightly annoying you have to resize them each time you use them. This might be hard to solve but I'll just note it here since I'm on the subject.

Music - okay
xmms plays mp3 fine, volume applet works fine

Package manager package-version problem (old)
RC2 had the problem that everytime you installed a package it reinstalled all dependencies, including xfree in some cases. This hasn't happened yet
Tried to install firefox. (I'm using 2 feeds (www.pdaXrom.com/feed and feed2)
The package manager lists both version 0.8 and 0.9 in the list (diffent feeds?). Selecting and installing v0.9 did end up installing v0.8 however. Is this a bug in ipkg?
Anyway, removed the old feed and stuck to feed2 which has v0.9. Reinstalled firefox. Works like a charm.

Feature requests:
Easy way to see active tasks (without closing window or pressing alt-tab)
Fix cpu monitor applet - it always show 100% (its on the bug list)

I'll post more when I have tested some other stuff.
So far great work!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Origo Wireless CF card configuration
« on: July 23, 2004, 02:03:09 am »
Your dmesg looks pretty normal. pcmcia gets initialized. I hope you used your usb cable with ssh to get the output to your desktop, or copy it using a cf memory card. Else its a pretty tough haul typing all that stuff

iwconfig tells you that no wifi driver is loaded. That means the card isn't recognized.
to verify this you can type
Code: [Select]
lsmodThis lists all loaded module.
My lsmode shows that pxa_bi, net_fd, usbdcore, spectrum_cs, orinoco, hermes, usbdmonitor, sharp_mmcsd_m are  loaded

I'm not sure why I have all three wifi drivers loaded but heh, I'm not complaining, it works.

Quote
Edit file "/etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf" At the end add the following

card "Origo" (or some other description, not important)
   version ""WLAN", "11Mbps_PC-Card_3.0", "ISL37100P", "Eval-RevA"
   bind "prism2_cs"
This is not for the pdaXrom I assume since it doesn't have the wlan-ng.conf.
In your case you need to add the card to /etc/pcmcia/hermes.conf
Try using the orinoco_cs binding instead.
I'm not sure how important the indentation for the second and third line is but better to put it in.
So it looks something like this:
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/pcmcia/hermes.conf
# Wireless network adapters
#
# We should use the manfid which cover multiple cards), otherwise we will
# go crazy listing all cards and their variations!!!

# Third class of device : other Intersil clones
card "Origo"
   version ""WLAN", "11Mbps_PC-Card_3.0", "ISL37100P", "Eval-RevA"
   bind "orinoco_cs"

Like the comment says, it is better to use the manfid. I don't know what the manfid of your card is but you can find out with 'cardctl ident'. It lists the manfid line under the product info.
So if the above example doesn't work then comment out 'version' and put your card's manfid in there. For example:
Code: [Select]
card "Origo"
#   version ""WLAN", "11Mbps_PC-Card_3.0", "ISL37100P", "Eval-RevA"
   manfid 0x0156,0x0002
   bind "orinoco_cs"
Of course you need to use the real manfid, not my example.
What is your manfid by the way?

Hope this gets some results
