Security and Networking / Irda Connection To Mobile Phone
« on: September 26, 2006, 06:22:02 am »
Hi
I have a zaurus SLA-300 and a Nokia 6021i phone (with O2 as carrier). I want to use my phone as a modem in order to get internet access. On my network setting on zaurus I have the option for IrDA connection to phone/modem but the initialization always fails. Does anyone have experience with this sort of connection? Any O2 Germany users using their phones with the zaurus?

Accessories / Minisync & Sla-300
« on: September 20, 2006, 06:45:28 am »
Hi
it seems to me that there are not many users of SLA-300 around. Anyway I want to ask this:
I'm looking for a USB sync/charge cable that should work with my Zaurus SLA-300. I found an unexpensive solution from BoxWave (minisync) but the cables that they are offering were tested only with later models of zaurii like SL-5500 and SL-5600. Does someone knows which of these models have similar specifications with my SLA-300?

Mac Issues / Connect Zaurus To Network/www Over Usb?
« on: June 03, 2005, 05:08:59 am »
Quote
Hi,

I'm trying to access the other computers in my local network with my Zaurus.

Zaurus 5500G
Sharp ROM 3.13
Cacko Kernel Patch
IP 192.168.129.201

connected over USB cradle to
PowerBook G4
OS 10.3.4
USB driver 0.2.8
USB-IP 192.168.129.1

The powerBook is connected via Airport to the WLAN/DSL-Router
IP 192.168.2.1

I can mount the Zaurus as SMB-Volume on the PowerBook, I can ping Zaurus/PowerBook,
but I can't ping the WLAN router or any other PC in the network 192.168.2.x with the Zaurus.

I tried the following on the Zaurus:

sudo route add -host 192.168.129.1 usbd0
sudo route add default  gw 192.168.129.1

The routing table on the zaurus ("route") looks as follows:

Kernel IP routing table
Destination     Gateway         Genmask         Flags Metric Ref    Use Iface
192.168.129.1   *               255.255.255.255 UH    0      0        0 usbd0
192.168.129.0   *               255.255.255.0   U     0      0        0 usbd0
default         192.168.129.1   0.0.0.0         UG    0      0        0 usbd0

Can anybody tell me what I've done wrong?
Do I have to activate anything on the PowerBook to provide the Zaurus access to the local network and also to Internet?

Unfortunately, I'm not a linux geek, I found the "route" commands on the net and tried them, but was not lucky yet..

Best regards

Martin

if you're using a DNS server for your mac/network you should add this in your /etc/resolv.conf file on zaurus.

Mac Issues / Qtopia Desktop Osx Issues?

there are also some small programs from a japanese guy which can sync between mac and zaurus (however the MI series which I think don't have linux). Soft is called Zsync or so and apparently it was working; may be you could only change something to make it run.

Mac Issues / Qtopia Desktop Osx Issues?
« on: March 10, 2005, 05:10:03 am »
well, you're not the only one having problems with the time settings on QtopiaDesktop. I also have to fight with that; all my datebook entries on zaurus are transfered one hour decalated on the desktop and when synchronizing again they are trasnfered back to the zaurus with the wrong time so that I get the same appointment with 2 different times on my PDA.

hope the new qtopia desktop will change the situation.

Software / Help: Reinstallation of tkc Player
« on: September 24, 2004, 08:32:00 am »
Hi
I also had problems with their applications. I bought from a friend who selled his zaurus the tkc-bundle -1.5-08 and lately 1.5-34 and the applications that work with one version of thekompany-files do not work with the ther one.
So if you buy from them I suppose that you need to be sure you buy the same version of all applications otherwise you just trow away some money.

Software / TextMaker beta now available
« on: September 24, 2004, 06:35:48 am »
Hi
I also noticed that it will install only on the main memory. However, the dictionaries install without problems but the main package complains about some bad tar headers??? blocks??
Also I made some 10MB available on the device for it but I still think it is not enough.

Hi
already tried this but I'm not hearing any sound. either the trial is not working, or sla-300 cannot play the .sw format sound files that buzconfig uses.

Mac Issues / QtopiaDesktop <-> Mac <-> Zaurus sync
« on: September 13, 2004, 07:46:18 am »
Hi
I just wrote an email to the trolltech guys who work on the QtopiaDesktop software to inquire about any possibility to have Qtopia syncing with OS X PIM applications (Addressbook, iCal) in the next release and here is his answer:

"(me) Therefore I would like to see in the next version
implemented a feature which would allow QtopiaDesktop to synchronize
with the default PIM applications under OS X (Addressbook, iCal). I
think it could be a plugin to do the job and the synchronization
procedure could be: sync zaurus & qtopia, then sync qtopia & mac and
vice versa.

(QT) This is on my list of things to do but until a customer requests this
functionality it will remain a somewhat low priority. Qtopia Desktop
has the ability to support third party plugins although their creation
and use are not supported by Trolltech. Again, I hope to change this in
the future but it is not a high priority task. "

So, if someone would like to have this write a support mail to info@trolltech.com.

P.S. QtopiaDesktop works only with .xml base PIM on Zaurus (initial ROM in 5xxx series and A300).

Software / sound when you tap
« on: September 13, 2004, 03:11:23 am »
Hi
Is there any working software that would play a sound when you tap something on the screen? I mean something similar to the PC keyboard click when you hit the keys.

Mac Issues / New screen shots of myPDA-Zaurus-Edition
« on: July 06, 2004, 05:12:22 am »
Hi
Unfortunately my Zaurus (SLA-300) is not supported, otherwise I would happily try your software. Anyway, I had a look at your latest screenshots and I notticed that  the soft improuved as compared with what I was able to see from previous screenshots. However I have to make some remarks/suggestions:
1. I think your package addresses more the Mac users who would like to have a PDA with the same look/functionality/simplicity/abbility the port applications with their computer. Therefore yoou should pay more attention also to the way your system looks. For example the icons are awfull, you should contact a icon designer or something like this (may be some guy from IconFcatory) to design some modern/photorealistic (may be) icons for your system to make it more appealing. The normal user of a zaurus is I think a linux geek and you will need something more appealing to move him from his trusted qt enviroment to a STEP/Cocoa/Objective-C one. Also the window decorations I think are too big, taking to much screen space. Also here, may be you will drope the "golden delicious" as your symbol and use something else (not to get in trouble with apple when the your product will reach the "critical mass" for selling). Instead you can use something as simple (a leaf, sakura, etc.), but stilized. Unfortunately I have no programming/artistic talents, otherwise I woul have helped you here.
2. When the product is mature enough, I think it should be made available as a ROM update/upgrade/installation, but keeping the possibility to install/run the usual qt-based software available for  zaurus.
3. How are the syncing possibilities with the mac/linux/windows based PIM applications?
Well that will be all then. When at least 1 and 2 are fulfilled then I'll buy from you a new zaurus with the new system installed on it.
