5x00 General discussions / Altboot Poodle
« on: May 04, 2008, 01:02:22 pm »
Thanks for getting back to me. uname -a shows 2.4.18. I installed the 250pxa kernel from http://mirror.hentges.net/www.openzaurus.o.../images/poodle/. I did find altboot.conf, it was buried a little in /www.openzaurus.org/3.5.4/feed/upgrades/machine/poodle. I can now boot from sd card! Cool!

I was using the sharp rom for a couple of years but it's a little limited as to what you can do. I mainly used it because it synced easily with Outlook. But now I am using Linux desktop so I am not tied down.

Is the 3.5.4 oz pretty stable? It seems ok so far. Now to get WPA working. I'm having a little trouble finding info for poodle, so I'll probably be back. Cheers.

I have a 5600 zaurus and I am loading OZ 3.5.4 on it (2.4 kernel). It seems to work nicely, but internal flash is low. I would like to move root to SD card. I have looked for altboot.ipk and altboot-conf.ipk in OZ feeds but can not find them. Are they still around?

I also tried Henteges altboot.tar.gz but couldn't quite understand the instructions. My Z keeps crying about 2.6 kernel found while looking for 2.4.
Thanks.

Sharp ROMs / Installing Qpdf2
« on: October 20, 2005, 11:28:22 am »
That was it. I had recently tried the ko/pi apps and set them to quick load. Although I uninstalled them they must have set my sharp apps to quickload as well. All is fine now. Thanks!

Sharp ROMs / Installing Qpdf2
« on: October 20, 2005, 10:52:08 am »
I installed qpdf2 on my stock sharp rom on my 5600. I also installed libopie1_1.0.3_arm.ipk and opie-pics_1.0.3_arm.ipk as per FAQ on OESF.org. When I try to open a pdf document it starts to open and then I get "the available work area is becoming low. Please select an application to terminate" and then it closes. The only thing I installed on my sharp rom is the sharp terminal and file manager, so I should have plenty of room. I also tried installing to cf but same thing. Is there something else I should be trying?

Sharp ROMs / Wireless Connection On 5600
« on: October 18, 2005, 01:08:55 pm »
Hello,
I'm trying wireless connection on 5600 with Sharp rom v1.32 and special kernel v1.3 applied. I have Linksys wcf12 wireless card. Set up network info in network applet including essid, wep key, etc. When I insert card green light comes on for a second then goes out. "ifconfig eth0 up " shows "no such device". "cardctl ident" identifies card ok. Network applet shows network as "off line". According to Special Kernel info on ZUG Downloads, Wireless Extensions should be turned on. Is there a file I need to modify, or are there any suggestions as to what I should check?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Need Help With Sl5600 And Wifi
« on: January 19, 2005, 08:50:24 am »
OK, here's where I am at now. I have turned off encryption on my router. I still cannot connect to the net, but my active client wireless table for my router shows the same mac address that is on my Zaurus, so they must have located each other. I still get "could not locate remote server" when I try to connect to a web site.

For some reason I don't have any GUI on my Zaurus to enter essid, channel, wep key, etc so this might be my problem. Is there an application in the feed that I should try? I have already tried wirelessapplet, wirelesstools but they don't give me anything more than what I have now. How would I enter this information manually to configure eth0 to my router's settings?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Need Help With Sl5600 And Wifi
« on: January 18, 2005, 08:19:31 pm »
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I am not that good with linux yet. I am trying to get a wireless connection with my sl5600 running 3.5.2 poodle. My card is a Pretec 802.11b with orinoco driver. It is reconized as soon as I insert it into Zaurus.

The interface I am trying to use to connect to my router is eth0 (wlan0 does not come up). When I set eth0 to dhcp my card stops blinking and I get a solid green, so I assume it is connecting. When I open up opera I get "could not locate remote server". Most of the instructions I have found say to open up network settings and set dhcp, essid and wep in the GUI. For some reason my GUI does not have an option to set essid or wep. I have not edited any .conf files as I am not sure what to add (if anything).  All of the instructions I have found say to simply plug in the card and make some entries in the GUI and it works, so I am a little frustrated.

I installed wellenreiter to see if it could snif my network, and it does find it, so I think my card is ok. Could someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction?
Thank you.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / is ext2 or 3 the only choice for SD card?
« on: January 04, 2005, 04:33:04 pm »
I just bought a 512mb sd card and was wondering how to utilize some of it for linux file system and still have windows read and write to it. It sounds like your solution is a winner! I have three questions, I hope you can answer them. I'm a little new to linux so I'm trying to get this straight to avoid damaging my new card. I'm running oz on a 5600.

1) Would I issue these commands from /mnt/card/ (cd /mnt/card/)?

2) If I want to allocate 200mb to the ext2.img, would the following line be correct?
# dd if=/dev/zero of=ext2.img bs=1024 count=204800

3) Is it safe to move /opt and /home to this ext2.img?

Thanks for your help!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Browser For 3.5.2 Opie

Sounds like there is a problem with your symlink between the source of /opt/QtPalmtop/opera and the destination of /usr/share/opera
Thank you JohnKiniston

I am a little new to linux. I reversed the symlink and all is well!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Browser For 3.5.2 Opie
« on: January 01, 2005, 10:07:56 pm »
OK, I installed opera 6 from the zug downloads as well as ozcompat and opie-sh from the 3.5.2 feed. I did ln -s /usr/share/opera /opt/QtPalmtop/opera. I ran makecompat from terminal and followed the promps to link opera to the ozcompat library. Rebooted. Opera icon shows up, I click icon and opera opens up. Opera opens up an html file.

Problem is the menus at the top are not appearing. All I can see is a square where each menu item should appear but there is no identification. If I click the squares, menu items will open up but I cannot tell what each one is untill I actually open it. Is there any way to correct this?

I've just flashed my SL-5600 to the OPIE variant of OZ 3.5.2

I cannot get wireless working. USB networking is working ok.

planetf1,
I know this is a question and not an answer, but do you have usb networking with a windows machine? I have a 5600 with 3.5.2 and have a usb connection with my linux desktop, but I've been having fits trying to usb network with my xp desktop. I always get "usb device not recognized".

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Browser For 3.5.2 Opie

I would like to recommend Opera 6.0 as the browser to use with OZ 3.5.2.

Thanks for your replies. I have no problem with Opera. I thought I read that it was only for GPE and that the only browser for OPIE was konq.

BeKind,
Will OPERA install on OPIE as you suggested?
