Security and Networking / OZ 3.3.6 on Z5600 with WCF12
« on: May 26, 2004, 09:51:57 pm »
It would appear this pile of crap has destroyed both my CF card, AND my CF WiFi card from what I can tell.. I tried getting back to some \"knowns\" by re-flashing back to Sharp ROM. The system tray monitor telling my I have put something in the CF slot comes up each time, but then niether device works anymore. This has definately been a waste of time, effort, and money. I never had these problems with my 5500.. the 5600 just appears to either; a) really suck, or  I got defective one that has now trashed all my accessories.

OK.. I have been looking and looking with no resolution..

I am starting to feel like I\'m right back where I started when I FIRST got my Zaurus 5500.. I have been trying to get my 5600 as functional as I had my 5500, and to date... total failure. It\'s a gd brick, and wearing down my patience.

Here is my problem:

NOW, after getting OZ3.3.6pre1 installed and working, let me say I LOVE THE LOOK AND FEEL a hell of a lot more than the Sharp ROM, or any of it\'s brothers (Zynergy, etc.). I had tried getting Kismet and Wellenreiter working on those, but had constant issues, so I wanted to go back to what I KNEW worked.. OZ.. well, WRONG!!

OZ does not even recognize my WCF12. When I insert the card, I get:

\"Inserted: Anonymous Memory\"

I am not sure which file to edit.. I saw the post on the DWL650, and saw the addition to the /etc/pcmcia/config file, however, this file doesn\'t seem to list any WiFi cards in general.. it\'s all ethernet cards.

If I could JUST get the wireless working, I think I could get the rest, because it looks like Wellenreiter at least WANTS to work, but having no card to which it can connect, isn\'t helping. It WAS working with the Sharp ROM, but I see no mention of the WCF12 in any of the config files...

Any ideas?

Mickey?

Ahh.. OK. Thanks much for the update Mickey.. I want to try OZ again, but I have not had the time to fiddle with it.. I have a new problem now though, where I can no longer read my CF card, which I will have to resolve first, since I can\'t seem to write to the SD card... what the hell did Sharp do to the 5600?? I loved my 5500 (I had crushed it in transit, unfortunately), but the 5600 has been a little disappointing so far.

When I do a search for \"signal-low\", all that comes back is this thread, so I hope you are not referring to the solution of \"eject and reinsert the card\" as an explanation... Is there additional data on this? I have looked for weeks now...

I have looked for other people having this problem, but you are the first one that has confirmed the same symptoms. I would LIKE to know if it\'s the card, or if it\'s the new Zaurus, because the 5500 and this card went together like \"spaghetti and meatball\".. I was a wireless network scanning fool, and now I can\'t do anything. Kismet does not register any nets (even though I see them on a laptop running Kismet), and Wellenreiter doesn\'t want to work either.. this is the main thing I want to do with my Zaurus, and if I can\'t do that, it will make the justification for this toy tough to pull off... I have a PPC Phone for the Windows integration, but that was an after thought... I would really like to see a stable release of OZ... What drew you to tkcRom?

Ooops!! Forgot - the card is the Linksys WCF12, and I have a 128MB CF, and 128MB SD card. I JUST got the 5600, and never had these problems with the 5500.

I am having a similar problem.. after about 5 minutes of good signal and web surfing (it starts telling me signal is low even though I have not moved), and all networking comes to a halt. I have tried the Sharp ROM, the Sharp ROM with pre-emptive kernel, and Zynergy. I just tried OZ 3.3.5, BUT something hosed during the process, and it still says Zynergy on bootup, and I can no longer connect to  it.. it also appears to have either wiped my CF card, or it can\'t read it, and OF COURSE my USB CF reader had bent pins in it last night, so I had to throw it away...

Just wondering if I have a defective unit, or if it\'s heat due to the faster CPU, or what.. I want to try OZ, but I guess I\'ll have to wait until I can get a new CF reader. Off I go to the store!!
