My mistake, just had a look and it is a normal shell script.

Cortez,

as far as I know after you have installed the new uboot loader and the emergency system a normal flash install should allow installation of the updated rom.

I assume the autoboot.sh is similar to the updater.sh for the previous boot loader (a binary file rather than an actual shell script).

So to update switch off (remove battery + charge cable) the reinsert battery and press 'on' while holding down the 'OK' button.  This should start the installation.

Marc

OK upto the CF Update step, this returns the following on my 860 :

CF Update
   ---Found orders---
Model Error!!

The last bit is shown in red.  Do I have the wrong version of uboot?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Java 1.3 and Swing in pdaxrom 1.1.0 RC5
« on: November 19, 2004, 06:21:27 pm »
I can't see the blackdown Java JRE 1.3.1 working with RC5.  RC5 has the Vector Floating Point emulation which is much (and I do mean much) faster than the generic exception based handling for ARM processors without floating point units.

Every application which used floating point maths required rebuilding for RC5.  For binary only distributions like the ARM Java ports this may prove probematic.

Is there a JRE port which supports the NetWinder FPU emulation library?  Otherwise could we include both VFP support in the ROM, Native Development and Cross-Compiller but still have the exception based FPU emulation as a (SLOW) backup for pre-compilled binaries ...

Just a thought.

Are you using the RC5 versions of Gnumeric etc?  The Vector Floating point emulation will give invalid instructions as the kernel exception handling has been  removed ...

Does this work with pdaXrom RC5 with the new floating point stuff?   This is precompilled and presumabally assumes either a FPU or exception based FPU emulation rather then the netwider libraries?

If this is the case could we keep the exception handling in the pdaXrom Kernel.  Then any precompilled programs with no external floating point library support could fall back on the (much) slower exception based emulation and recompilled software could use the fast emulation.

Cxx0 General discussions / Cacko after failed pdaXrom

Well I'm now a complete pdaXrom convert using RC5.  So I'm not really worried about this anymore ... but it would be nice to know if anyone has found any permenant settings that can be held over a NAND restore ...

Cxx0 General discussions / Cacko after failed pdaXrom
« on: August 25, 2004, 01:47:37 pm »
Anyone got any ideas about reinstalling cacko after a failed experiment with pdaXrom v1.1.0?  I tried to install the X rom and couldn't get it to work and so wanted to go back to my Cacko install.  However a re install stopped almost every application from starting and gave ghost images (fixed by 'echo 75 > /proc/drivers/w100/fastsysclk').  None of these appeared beforehand.  I then took a full NAND backup I had and restored it.  This has given me a working install of the default Sharp ROM I got from shirtpocket.  I then tried to install cacko over the newly installed backup but the same symptoms occurred.

I've not gone back to the default ROM image.  Anyone got any ideas what outside the flash 128mb on my C860 could have been over written by the pdaXrom installer?

The NAND restore appears to work OK, the problems come after installing Cacko onto the restored system.  This makes me think that something outside the flash store has been altered by the pdaXrom, anyone know what that could be?

I gave the pdaXrom 1.1.0 RC2 install a go but it didn't appear to work so I decided to go back to Cacko 1.2.1b.  However although Cacko installed OK it had ghosting that wasn't there before and most of the applications didn't start (hour glass then nothing).

So I went back to my full NAND backup of the original Sharp ROM shirtpocket sent me.  This appeared to work fine so I followed up with another go at installing Cacko.  The same symptoms appeared following the install.  So I'm currently back with the NAND backup image which is working OK.

So does anyone know what permanent settings does the 1.1.0 installer change outside the 128Mb flash on my C860?

Posting this from my Zaurus.  Thought I'd post the results of my own stupidity!  The part I was missing was the channel select.  After my reinstall of Cacko I setup my WiFi connections immediataly setting the ESSID thereby removing the option to change the channel.  I switched to ad-hoc for a bit and changed the channel to match my router and it connected fine.  D'Oh!

OK seems to be fine with that steady green light, even managed to pick up the test network ESSID using my XP laptop (I know ...).  So it'll just be a question of getting the Z working with my network, cool.  Thanks for you assistance.
