Cacko after failed pdaXrom
« on: August 25, 2004, 01:47:37 pm »
Anyone got any ideas about reinstalling cacko after a failed experiment with pdaXrom v1.1.0?  I tried to install the X rom and couldn't get it to work and so wanted to go back to my Cacko install.  However a re install stopped almost every application from starting and gave ghost images (fixed by 'echo 75 > /proc/drivers/w100/fastsysclk').  None of these appeared beforehand.  I then took a full NAND backup I had and restored it.  This has given me a working install of the default Sharp ROM I got from shirtpocket.  I then tried to install cacko over the newly installed backup but the same symptoms occurred.

I've not gone back to the default ROM image.  Anyone got any ideas what outside the flash 128mb on my C860 could have been over written by the pdaXrom installer?

This is sooo cool, I have been searching every where for info on the ghost images, I just bought my c860 on ebay and was beginging to think I got ripped off.  While I was contemplating burning a new rom I ran across your fix for the ghost image...I am very happy now, thanx.  Anyway, how did you know that that fixes the issue, I searched using every combination of wording for this problem and nothing came up, all weekend I searched, let me know and thanx again.  And I hope you got your problem fixed.

I, too, found the same problem. I was running pdaxrom and went back to Cacko yesterday. Sure enough, I experienced screen ghosting, but the "echo" fix didn't do it for me.

So, I did a NAND restore and wouldn't you know it, there was no screen ghosting at all, but then there was Japanese to contend with.

Then, I reflashed Cacko and the screen ghosting came back. Now I'm back to pdaxrom with no ghosting.

What gives?

After a similar sequence, returning from pdaX-RC5 to Cacko 121, I could not install ipk's anymore (message "ipkg says something went wrong, sorry"). Looking at system info, I got the impression that a massive cache is locking memory away. This may explain, but doesn't solve, the strange behaviour of progs.
Note that Cacko 120 (previous version) behaves normally on my 860, so I will use that until pdaX is a bit more mature and better supported by applications. Also may try to install Cacko 121 after C120.

Well I'm now a complete pdaXrom convert using RC5.  So I'm not really worried about this anymore ... but it would be nice to know if anyone has found any permenant settings that can be held over a NAND restore ...

I don't have the ghosting problem in pdaxrom RC5 either. Now I am running the original Sharp ROM converted to English (never tried it before ).  There is no ghosting effect at  all with this ROM. So, there has to be something up with Cacko 1.21 I think.
