Software / i have a dream
« on: August 16, 2004, 05:40:35 pm »
is there a way, though, to run the browser fullscreen? that's my main issue. that, and making it always run w/o the opie stuff in the background...

after some hassles with various roms, etc, i'm wondering if i'm approaching my zaurus the right way.

so... what i'd ideally want, if possible, is the following:

- a rom that runs apache + php4 + mysql or (ideally) apache + php5.0.0 + sqlite extension at all times
- a fullscreen browser that browses localhost locations
- wifi support so the local scripts can sync with my website

is that possible?

I'm trying out the hentges rom-- wellenreiter works. awesome. however. when i boot from the rom the first time, my bootup is haunted by 'you have inserted a sd card' dialogue that i can't pick anything from. i'd actually like to format my SD, reboot, and do whatever i need to do to use the sd as my /home (or is this default with the hentges rom?)

also.. why is there no konqueror available on any of the feeds?

help? (Newbie!)

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Want to try OZ 3.5?

Re: GPE vs Opie--

I think I'm in love. GPE feels disturbingly comfortable, and looks hottt. Extremely intuitive, and fast, effectively killing my X11 concerns on a 5500.

Where would one find a Minimo ipkg... and possibly, something GUI-like to sniff wifi?

i wasnt really clear on this, but i did love the concept. i\'d use it all the time if it was rock-solid stable.

I played with your ROM (might want to host on ZUG-- takes an average of 4 hours to download 14 megs from that server). It\'s a great concept, and I would love to use it consistently. However, the ROM didn\'t behave like a \'clean\' 3.2; not the same startup dialog questions, etc. and also I was having a bunch of segfaults on things that ran fine under 3.2.

I\'d _love_ to see this as an ipkg for the stock 3.2-- which is still one of my 2 favorite roms (currently really diggin\' YAR-- it\'s fast on my 5500) since I was running into too much trouble..

might\'ve been the way i flashed it, tho. how do you do a super, duper, super, duper clean flash, whipe all that is, etc?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ Newbie questions
« on: May 10, 2004, 08:52:24 pm »
i feel like a total newb... but i got mysql and apache (both from the http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/ site), installed them (had to force mysql since there was a file that sqlite had already installed that stopped mysql from installing ok) ... and then i\'m stuck.

apachectl (also from killefiz) doesn\'t seem to do much on my Z... mysql\'s start app doesnt seem to start it.

i\'m pretty damn close to getting my Z tweaked the way I like it. this is just slowing me down. my kingdom for a hint.. or a qt-based apache control ;-)

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ Newbie questions
« on: May 07, 2004, 10:47:44 am »
I\'ve been poking at the various ROMs, and I found myself surprised that OpenZaurus felt like the best fit for me. No offense, I always thought that the more \'safe\' world of TKC/Sharp ROMs would be the right place to be, but when I flashed my Z with OZ 3.2 I was quite pleased with the results.

Now, I am left with a few questions, like:
...Do I want to be running 3.3.5 or 3.5?
...Can I get Apache/PHP/MySQL to run under OZ (3.2?)?
...should most packages (like pbdoom, which I like just for the hell of it) install under OZ3.2?

I\'ll probably think of more (stupid) questions soon. Help? =)

i got my 5500-- after poking at it a bit and trying a few roms/kernels i\'m currently planning on flashing it with the cacko 5500 kernel, tkc2 alpha and then bringing on the apps (need to get me a SD card!). sweet li\'l gizmo. Wouldn\'t mind meeting up sometime--- out of curiosity, what\'s the Illinois/WI rom of choice? just to make idea sharing easier.

Des Plaines, though we just moved so i\'m kinda stuck unpacking / fixing up our condo. i\'d be up for a meet at some point though... need to get the wifi going at the new place so i can powerbook/zaurus around from the couch.

i also hang out on IRC a lot, maybe that\'s a good place to \'net\'-meet?

Well...

Since my Zaurus is currently on a UPS truck (5500) I guess I am now a Zaurus owner in IL (Des Plaines reprazent-- I work out in Barrington). I\'ll be lurking on this group, occasionally asking stupid questions and maybe looking for software/ROM recommendations. so. Hi!
