Zaurus - pdaXrom / Hulk Will Smash Cf Slot
« on: January 02, 2005, 06:53:00 am »
I installed rc8 last week, and it worked pretty well.  The only thing I've changed since last going online with it is installing quake (which didn't quite work).

Now, cardctl ident and cardctl scheme seem to recognize my cf memory card and cf ethernet card (Hawking); but the gui lan/wifi manager won't switch schemes (it doesn't hang, but it just sits there).

The sd/cf manager will allow me to add it to the taskbar, but whenever I try to use it, it halts.  I can't mount my cf memory card or use my ethernet card--even though all the lights go on and blink like it's transmitting, ifconfig says there's no eth0.  Was it my attempted quake install, or a pod people invasion?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Port Request: Ftpfs/lufs
« on: January 02, 2005, 05:39:37 am »
Also, perhaps the most common use for that would be hard drives plugged into a wifi router with a USB port like the ASUS WL-500g or the Netgear WGT634U.  There's custom roms for those boxes that let you run Samba instead of just ftp, but those require telnet to manage samba, they don't support ssh.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Trendnet Wired Ethernet card

Quote
card "Unknown NE2000 Compatible Ethernet"
 #function network_adapter
 manfid 0x0149, 0xc1ab
 bind "pcnet_cs"

have fun !!
I have a Hawking ethernet card, and after trying many other methods, This worked wonderfully for me in rc5--but I just "upgraded" to rc8, and neither this nor the more traditional 'card "Fast Ethernet"' (like cardctl ident says) works.  Any solution for us poor Hawking users?  I'd hate to have to revert.

Edit: I stood on my head while sacrificing a black rooster, added some more lines I can't remember, and rebooted, and it works now.  Erm, never mind.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Port Request: Ftpfs/lufs
« on: December 27, 2004, 01:15:47 am »
http://ftpfs.sourceforge.net/ which has been merged into http://lufs.sourceforge.net/lufs/ allows you to mount an ftp served directory as a local drive.  I consider this a good thing, on the Zaurus far more than on a full sized system.  I'm hoping someone with the skill to actually implement it on the Z also considers it a good thing.  Any takers?

This is more an application request, but it kinda fits:  an unrar utility--the source code's on their site, and they have an arm version, but I couldn't get it to work.

http://ftpfs.sourceforge.net/

I've been doing some heavy consideration and research into having a PDA with a 200GB hard drive.  To that end, I'd like the kernel module above, which allows one to mount an FTP site as a local drive.  Seems like the only way to use 802.11b network attached storage like the ASUS WL-500g and Netgear WGT634U, and connect to an internet access hotpoint at the same time.

One more wish: mplayer, even without x running and a 320x240 movie, won't play video at a watchable framerate for me.  I'm not 100% positive it's not just me, but I've heard from others with the same problem.  Watchable movies would be cool!

Off Topic forum / Reverse engineering an IR protocol
« on: October 29, 2004, 05:01:26 pm »
Speaking of reverse engineering IR protocols, I'm thinking of getting a casio camera watch, but don't have an ir port on my pc.  What's more, I tried talking to a clie by using the ir applet on pdaXrom and couldn't even get started.  How difficult would that be?

Cxx0 Hardware / Wifi hd enclosure from Asus
« on: October 29, 2004, 09:34:59 am »
My one wish is that it could take a 3.5" drive, being limited to 80GB sucks.  Not too badly, though.
Question about using it--I don't know too much about wifi--can I connect to this and a wifi hotpoint for internet access at the same time?

I had forgotten until I saw it mentioned, but audible alarms from Ko/Pi are the most important fix for me--I need a working PDA as well as a mini laptop.

Also, it'd be nice to have an ipkg of VMware so I could run Windows 2003 as an application terminal server for some thin clients.  And still the transforming into a giant robot thing.

I'm using RC5 right now and love it, echo murple.  There's there's really only three things I can think of that could make it better.

1. A setting that'll automatically underclock when you've had cpu cycles to spare for a while, say after a minute of playing mp3s.  Or maybe just put a button to do that on the light and power screen.

2. ReiserFS and NTFS support.

3. The ability to transform into a giant robot.

Cxx0 Hardware / Firefly USB disk: Perfect storage device?
« on: October 26, 2004, 05:31:43 am »
There's only one extant that I know of, http://www.provantage.com/buy-7rato01l-usb...1u-shopping.htm
There's a fabled twin USB port one with no dongle, but it's been coming soon for quite a while, from what I hear.

I'm planning on stealing your idea there, Michael, except with a 3.5in HD (I wasn't thinking about the shock resistance, I hope it doesn't go kablooey).

How did changing to a 1mb filesystem affect your performance, though?  I could still change my partitioning or filesystems, and I'd like to know how it went.

Oh, and is the voltage regulator not built into the battery or the inverter?  That my scuttle my idea, as I have no equipment or knowledge for building electronics from scratch.

Oh, yeah--and is the disk access + slowdown while accessing fast enough to play video from?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Ambicom problem

It does.  And my embarassment at it having been so simple is nearly equal to my relief that it works now.

You almost won a bet.  System tools -> network settings.  You'd think with my actual job in windows I'd check the gui tools first...
