After reading this thread I guess I need to apologise for whining - people are working on it.

5x00 General discussions / Sync 5500 To Linux
« on: June 15, 2005, 10:21:57 am »
I think it's amazing and very sad that many years after the introduction of a Linux based PDA that people are still having many problems trying to sync with Linux systems. What is equally amazing and sad to me is that people with the knowledge to help generally act as if it is the fault of the end user that this situation exists. "Linux PDA's will most likely remain a developer's toy until this changes." I know that the ROM changes Sharp made didn't help, but neither did the attitude that syncing made simple is for weenies and lusers. Hopefully the makers of Linux based cell phones will do a better job. If I sound a little annoyed about this, it's because I am. I raised this topic once before on the old Sharp devnet so excuse me while I go put on the asbestos suit.

Personal Java/Jeode/J2ME Personal Profile / Jmap Tip
« on: February 08, 2005, 01:13:45 pm »
A tip for anyone else who has been having trouble getting the Jmap utility (used for zooming in on map images or any other image, actually) to install :

The ipk file has been stored as a tar file instead of gzip and won't be recognised by the package installer so gzip the package then rename the file back to the original name. It then installs ok.

gzip jmap_20030109_arm.ipk
cp jmap_20030109_arm.ipk.gz jmap_20030109_arm.ipk

The drive arrived and I've been using for about a week (SL5500) with no problems. Just popped in and it appeared under /mnt/cf and is usable with all applications. Freizugheit, maybe you got a bad one or damaged it.

I meant adf, not Freizhugheit.

The model is a  Magicstor 2.2GB CF+ Type II MicroDrive. Anyone know if these will work in the SL5500? Guess I'll find out - couldn't resist.

Accessories / Bluetooth/USB sync + cell phone connect product
« on: July 21, 2004, 02:46:17 pm »
I hope this product from Pellico Systems turns out not to be vaporware. I've been considering getting an Aircable card but this  would  also allow syncing to pc USB via Bluetooth on the Zaurus serial/cradle and   also pair with a cell phone. No idea how long the "Coming soon!" has been on the website.

Sharp ROMs / Sync with Hybrid ROM in Linux
« on: June 10, 2004, 08:53:49 am »
On a 5500 with the 64/0 Hybrid ROM, a connection is made when trying to sync and then the Qtopia desktop (1.7) crashes while the message \"Retrieving unknown staus from Qtopia\" is displayed. If the SD card is ejected, the connection can be made ok but since the programs I need to sync are running from SD, that\'s no help. If the program is started from a teminal, the following messages are displayed before crashing:

Xlib:  extension \"GLX\" missing on display \":0.0\".
Xlib:  extension \"GLX\" missing on display \":0.0\".
initEnvironment() Invalid TimeZone (null)
Network operation (get) failed for url: http://qtopia.net/packages/SHARP/SL5500/1.5/Packages
addLnk name is empty! not adding type text/plain file (null)
Segmentation fault

I\'m running Mandrake 10.0 on the PC.  Id\' love to get this fixed as I\'d hate to go back to the Sharp Rom but I need to be able to sync this way at work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Kernel For Sl-5500/5000d
« on: June 02, 2004, 01:46:21 pm »
Can the 5500 / 64-0 Hybrid ROM with Qtopia 1.6.2 also use the 2.4.18 kernel update and async config?  Is it neccessary to start the installation with a sharp 3.10 already installed? I\'ve played around with the Hybrid rom a little and it\'s great - like having a new Zaurus again.

Sharp ROMs / My impression/opinion of Sharprom 3.13 on SL-5500 & ques
« on: February 23, 2004, 05:13:34 pm »
Lack of abilility to sync on Linux from the cradle is what keeps me from running ROMs other than Sharp 2.38 and Qtopia 1.7 ( I\'m also using Mandrake on the desktop). I can\'t wait to try tkcROM 2.0 final to see if it will sync in Linux. Syncing with Evolution would also be a major plus.

General Discussion / tkcROM flash procedure?
« on: February 13, 2004, 10:28:41 pm »
Sorry if this question has been covered but I\'m unable to find any info in posts or docs. Where is there a procedure to follow for flashing the new tkcROM?
