Has anyone tried a >=64GB CF card with their Z yet?

Saw the posts about putting a CF card into the Z. iamasmith documented the process in 2006 on here. I hope the link I include will take you there. Seems clearer and more detailed than the link in this thread?

OESF Wiki / Retired!
« on: August 21, 2015, 09:43:04 am »
Dear all,

just making it official. I no longer have the motivation or inclination to have anything to do with the admin of the wiki or the forum.

As regards the wiki: I believe that ibiblio are not 'serving' it up because the present version of the wiki software is insecure. I don't have the experience/expertise to upgrade the software nor the inclination to communicate with ibiblio to sort this out.

If there is anyone out there with the interest and commitment then please contact dz or offroadgeek to discuss the situation.

All the best

tux

I just had this pop up on Firefox again today.
Firefox is reporting oesf.org as an "attack page and has been blocked based on your security preferences."
Me too. I'm going to try and upload a file that should give me webmaster access. Wish me luck!

OESF Wiki / Account Registrations Turned Off At Then Wiki

Thanks for minding the dying flame, Tux.

Would you have to volunteer to take over as admin if you contacted dz? Couldn't you just ask him to log-in and register the user as a once-off deal? It's not like the demand is very high.

Speculatrix saw the previous post and sorted it out for the new guy! Hope all is well with you and yours and your section of Japan!

I think your suggestion would work also.. not needed at the moment.

OESF Wiki / Account Registrations Turned Off At Then Wiki
« on: July 23, 2012, 07:33:33 am »
Are there any people with admin rights left on the forum? A prospective member resorted to reporting my above post as his only means of contacting an admin. I'm only an admin on the Wiki. I'm reluctant to approach dz to volunteer to be an admin on the forum. From looking at the users active list we mostly get spammers logging in.

I suspect that my time would be spent removing spam users and not doing anything productive.

If there is life in the admin section on here will you please take a look at the request of someone calling themselves zaurusex and help him out, if he is as genuine as he seems.

As regards turning off registration at the Wiki, there are ony occasional bursts of spamming now. I'm assuming that these 'users' were registered before I turned off registration and are now coming into action at longish intervals.

I'm not feeling tempted to install the extensions that let me delete users let alone become an expert on SQL to clean the database!

OESF Wiki / Account Registrations Turned Off At Then Wiki
« on: June 13, 2012, 07:11:44 pm »
In the past year or so the only account registrations at the Wiki have been from spammers and vandals. My chief activity on the Wiki over the past few months has been blocking these accounts and deleting their contributions.

Today I have attempted to turn off account registration except by sysops. It appears to have worked.

If there should happen to be any genuine registree in the future please direct them to contact me via the forum pm system.

I will be emailing offroadgeek to let him know what I've tried to do.

I've clearly labelled the changes to LocalSettings.php so other sysops can turn registration back on if necessary.

Cheers each!!

General Discussion / Zaurus Wifi Access Point Options
« on: May 24, 2011, 03:39:26 pm »

As the Zaurus wifi only supports WEP (and in my case B networking having on an older card), I was wondering what solutions other users implemented to maintain network connectivity in a WPA world?

A second access point would work, or maybe a guest account created with alternate firmware such as DD-WRT, or even keep it wired with a LAN card.

Just curious,
My dodgy memory says that there is a solution to this in these forums.... I don't recall which forum. Did I say dodgy memory?

Security and Networking / Network Password

Hi All,

I would like to improve the security of my Z when on a wireless network.
I find that the Z appears on the desktop of Mac computers on the
same network just as any ordinary disk. Is there a way to password protect
the files? I.e. to make a secure login from other computers.

thanks

keef

I think you'll find it is to do with samba. Do a forum search and you'll find the info. From a good many years back...

OESF Wiki / Error Accessing "playing With Python" Page
« on: March 31, 2011, 05:08:03 pm »

We've encountered a similar problem before. It seems that certain article text sequences (a three-period ellipsis) cause the PHP interpreter to barf. I've tried editing the page in question and replacing the ellipses with &hellip entities, but the page is still generating errors. However, the page is displayable if you enter via the revision history page: https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Playin...amp;oldid=11024. Check it out.

I will keep this problem in mind, but it's hard to tell when I'll have time to do the research to really solve it.

The page is now accessible without needing any tricks....

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Robots Creating Accounts

Looking at the names of users logged in this morning, it looks like a robot is creating new accounts on here.
I think so too! I'm thinking that the Wiki is being targeted again this month.

OESF Wiki / Spam
« on: March 11, 2011, 02:54:24 pm »
Welcome back David!!

Over the last month or so an increasing number of IP editors have been creating new pages with walls of text. I assume there is some 'payload' in there? I think it might well be time to bar IP editing for a period of time.

Also editors are registering and doing the same thing. They are also uploading various images. Again I presume there is some 'payload' in there. Has the 'captcha' for registering been turned off? I don't have that many calls on my time but the amount of blocking and deleting I am doing at the moment is very tedious!

Is there some connection with the obvious robot registrations for forum membership? Any forum admin care to comment there?

Cheers

Sharp ROMs / Last Known Sharp Rom For Sl-5500 Where?

Pardon me for being so new to this but when I use the
initrd.bin_sharprom3.13_sl5500.2g.sd.fix.gz
from the link you gave me below and an Zimage from TKC (The Kompany) it boots saying The Kompany and doesn't have all the apps that I believe are part of the Rom 3.13 (sharp) including some of the games and su.  So, I guess I really am looking for an actual share 3.12 Zimage so that when it boots it says Sharp and not openzaurus or The Kompany, etc.  Does this make sense?

thanks.

I have picked up a SL-5500 with OpenZaurus on it and was wondering if anyone has the original Sharp ROM that I can put on a CompactFlash card to get back to factory?  I would like to load a sharp ROM that works with CACKO, if that helps?

I believe I need both the image and initrd.bin but correct me if I am wrong as I am a bit new to this.....

I have looked around here in the forum a bit and it seems that most of the links goto myzaurus which no longer works.  I have also links to zaurususergroup.org but that also has an error on all downloads at the bottom of the page  that says:
Fatal error: Call to a member function Execute() on a non-object in /home/.nika/offroadgeek/zaurususergroup.org/includes/pnSession.php on line 368

thanks!
Follow this thread: Sharp and TKCrom with 2GB SD card 'patch'. The first couple of posts give versions of the latest Sharp rom and the tkc rom with a fix to break the 1GB barrier. Further down the thread I give a link to a zimage file that should work fine. If the link is now dead reply here and I'll attach  a Sharp zimage.

Cheers

Try the attached file. It contains the Sharp applications that are left out of the tkc rom. For su etc you need to find a feed. There are a few out there still. Try looking on Community links on the forum menu bar: you might also look at ELSI on that menu. You can also look at the ipks on the ZUG cacko feed. Look at the options on the left hand side of the ZUG main page or follow this link: ZUG feed.

I hope that helps.

I'd recommend sticking with the rom you have flashed. I'd particularly recommend reading the thread it came from about 'Home on SD'. Very useful mod.

Have fun!

General Discussion / Larger Sdhc Cards On Sharp Rom

Here the module wanted by the patch.

hey that's great.

many, many thanks

I just replaced the (modified by pelrun) greater than 1 GB driver module on my 860 with the module attached above and rebooted. Worked ok. Tried the ipk for the cxx0 from the site in the first link through the gui installer. As with the successful attempt on the 3200 it said that the system would reboot after closing the installer. It rebooted with no problems. I checked that it still read my ordinary SD card and it did. I checked by swapping dictionaries in zbedic. I then checked how it worked with a 4GB puremedia SDHC card I was trying on the 3200. It worked fine. I tested it with fbreader and it recognised the umpteen books I had on the SDHC card and I was able to read them in the usual way.

To sum up: if you have the original un-modified Sharp modules on any of the clamshells you can just install the appropriate ipk from the Japanese site. If you have put the modified modules for the 3xxx series on then you need to uninstall the ipk first before installing the new one.

For the Cxx0 series if you installed the module that pelrun did for us you need to replace them with the one attached in this thread and then install the new version ipk.

Being a wimp on the command line I used treeexplorer to rename the pelrun module and to transfer the original one into place.

Thanks to the finders and experimenters! I actually played with my 860 for the first time in a year or so! I appreciate the screen and the keyboard all the more after using my G1 for the last year! It might even be worth my while to play with dual boot from the SD slot now!!

General Discussion / Larger Sdhc Cards On Sharp Rom

hi all,

anyone tell me how to uninsatall the old sd card driver so i can
install the new one. I do have tree explorer file manger.

Thanks in advance,

ps i am running cacko on c860.

If you have the standard Cacko modules then you simply apply the ipk. If like me you had used the ipk, from pelrun?, that broke the 1GB barrier just remove it with the uninstall option and install the new ipk. You do need a reboot or two along the way. The installer prompts you.

Since you have the 860 you need to download the specific ipk from the link in the earlier post for the 860. The ipks have English titles.

Cheers
