General Discussion / Sharp Leaves Pda Market In USA
« on: September 13, 2004, 09:57:10 am »
In terms of "enterprise" apps, I was in the early stages of planning a voip phone based on the Sharp.  This was for a specialized market that required very specific parameters.  This news has certainly killed any consideration of the Z, but I'm not very enthusiastic about develping for iPaqs/Windows either.  Luckily the news came at a point where all it cost me was a Z and accessories.  The only support I was ever looking for from Sharp was a stable, available product.

General Discussion / Zaurus DevNet going down to stay
« on: September 10, 2004, 12:18:32 pm »
This from Todd at SDG systems:
Thanks for contacting me. Sharp will have a significant number of units
available for several months, if not longer, but the US Zaurus program
is officially being discontinued. SDG Systems is working with some of
Sharp's other customers as to how to move forward with a Qtopia / Linux
platform. We are trying to move quickly on this situation. I'll keep you
informed.

They'll sell for a few more months then discontinue the product in the US.  How does that make us recent 6000 purchasers feel?

According to Todd (quoted above), Sharp is offically dumping all US support for Zaurus.   They'll sell US Zaurii for a few more months then axe the whole thing.  I guess their focus on "enterprise solutions" wasn't all that successful.

6000 - Tosa / external mics with sl6000
« on: August 30, 2004, 09:19:22 am »
It's "undocumented" that a mic is capable of working off this jack.  Also, it may even have the remote control functions of previous units, although I haven't seen anyone verify this.

BTW, anyone know how to define a USB headset as the default audio source, rather than the headset jack?  My 6000 sees the headset, but apps seem to default to the other port.  Is this a configuration change for each app?

This post was titled something about default audio device...I don't know how my handle got in there.

Pardon my Linux newbie-ness here but..
I've got an SL-6000L and I've attached a USB headset to the USB host port.  It seems to see it (the name appears under system info with an asterisk, dunno what that means) but any ideas on how to have the Z use it as the default audio device for apps?  Maybe I'm thinking too windows-ish, but how do you tell an application not to use the built-in audio ports and use my new USB audio device instead?  Must the config file of each app be modified?

6000 - Tosa / USB Adaptor & Cables

Oh well...just got the retractable USB cable from Black Box and  (altho it says a min-a adapter is included), there is no mini-a capability with this cable.

No, I find if I enable DHCP on my 6000L the network search program will time out after about 30 seconds and "disconnect". I have to keep a dummy IP value programmed in.

Well, I can't help much except to tell you I've run it for hours and never had a lockup on the 6000.  I just worked through the instructions in the 6000 forum and they worked.

BTW, what's the best way to actually attach to a network once it's found?  Kisment doesn't seem to be able to do this easily.  Is there an easier way to connect to a non WEP net other than configuring the name discretely in the setup program?

User Request for Applications / free telephone call: Skype For Linux
« on: July 02, 2004, 11:21:47 am »
Well they have compiled for Pocket PC
http://ui.skype.com/download_pda.html
so I guess they have compiled for PXA255 type processors, they just haven't released a Zaurus compatible package.
