Zaurus SL-C700
Zaurus SL-C860

Both boxed in excellent condition with leads and manuals. The SL-C860 is still under warranty (palmshop.ru). I purchased the SL-C700 from Maslovsky (developer of the CaCko ROM) personally a few months ago here in Moscow (although I am British).

Complete with:

Noname Bluetooth card (can't seem to get to work - driver issue - although others have)
SMC WiFi Card (boxed)
256MB MMC Card
Leather Carry Case

$400-00 for everything

Shipped from Moscow by FedEx 7 day service anywhere in the world.

I should say I am totally trustworthy - British, and work for a large US company here in Moscow (details supplied on request) - will supply tracking number after I have sent.

Selling because I have *NO* time to use - have spent last 4 months boxed and unused!!!!

You can collect if you are here in Moscow )) Payment by PayPal preferred if possible - else Western Union etc.

Cxx0 Hardware / Does SL-C860 support MMC?
« on: October 13, 2004, 02:48:25 pm »
MMC Cards work fine. I have a 256MB MMC card in my 860 (and use in my 700) without any problems. However currently SD cards do NOT work in the Zaurus.

Sorry can't help you further.

Security and Networking / Kerberos

I think at one time somebody developed a Kernel with Kerberos functionality but can't find it anywhere... is Kerberos available for these machines?

Cheers

Cxx0 Hardware / Actual Reliability Poll
« on: June 30, 2004, 06:13:16 am »
Like you Bob I just got a used C700 to "backup" my C860.

I run different ROMS on both machines and thats kinda nice (could dual-boot though I suppose...) but mainly if one goes down the other is available.

The C700 is out of warranty though so if that goes I'm hosed. But being over a year old (I have the old warranty) with no problems indicates to me it should (fingers crossed) last a few more years yet...

PS. Also I can't seem to go anywhere without a Zaurus in tow - was Wi-Fi'ing with maslovsky in a Moscow cafe last night we had *three* zaurii (SL-C700, SL-C750 and SL-C860) on the table with assorted number of cards.... now I shoulda have had my camera there!!!!

cheers

Cxx0 General discussions / What about limitations of SL-C 700 ?
« on: June 30, 2004, 06:03:06 am »
Having just purchased a used C700 (and owning a C860) I found when running CACkO 1.21b (i.e. SHARP ROM derivative) the differences were fairly minimal.
The PXA250 bug had a SW workaround in this kernel.

Although I only played around for one night (before flashing pdaXrom on the C700) I didn't notice any appreciable difference... maybe applications started up slower (and the boot sequence was slower) but hardly noticeable.

The biggest difference for end users will be in the RAM/Flash capacity/Battery life (which can be later upgraded if you can get hold of the larger back cover to take the new battery).

I'd say if the saving was $200+ I'd go with the C700 and buy a 512MB card.

Has the same beautiful screen and runs the same SW

... the AH-S101S SD AirH" modem can be used with the A300

Thats interesting - I already had heard about the WiFi card.

Now, once those drivers become "available" who is gonna reverse-engineer the code and write our SDIO open Source drivers )

On another note just purchased an old (well one year old) SL-C700 and have installed pdaXrom last night - its great to be back with X - it makes me think once this code matures will people move away from the SHARP based ROMS?

PS. Thanks to Maslovsky for selling me the C700 (via another guy) - I am now a confirmed Zaurii owner

General Discussion / The Sharp Dev board is not really back
« on: June 29, 2004, 04:03:01 am »
Agreed. the paradigm shift to Open Source is something that must keep Gates and Ballmer awake at night, since '98 and the leaked halloween documents we know M$ is seriously worried about Linux and Open Source Software.

Getting Linux into the embedded market (where it is inherently more suitable than the Pocket PC crap) is crucial for the long term sucess of Linux.... from Toaster Controller to Enterprise Clusters...

Having worked with Microsoft at their UK headquarters back in 1999/2000, I can tell you they are the most arrogant pig-headed gates-evangelical know-it-alls I've ever met... the only good thing about the place was the canteen (food was great!)
Technically they were weak... but their skills in b*llsh*tt*ng were outstanding. One came away thinking Win2K was going to rule the world (well I didn't think that  )

What we need next is for SUN to ditch Solaris, IBM AIX, HP HP/UX and the like and adopt Linux 100% - their problem is (well at least SUN's) is that once they ditch Solaris (and the associated costly support/service/upgrade contracts) all they are left with is the SPARC architecture... and like it or not x86 I think sadly enough won that war some time ago (look where Alpha went/is going...) - their revenue streams would drop like a brick.

However there is an argument for SPARC (at least in terms of Solaris) I mean look where x86 Solaris went.... nowhere... fast... but I diverge... ultimately x86 rules the client world. and soon I expect the Server. Linux is more than ready to start capitalising big-time on this and start winning former large Microsoft accounts.

One of the biggest issues is of course support. Whereas a Monkey could operate Windows 2K/2003 as an administrator, Linux requires a degree of intelligence -  and their will always be shortage of such people - anyone can click on a clickbox selection or perhaps even edit an /etc/hosts file (another M$ ripoff from UNIX) but how many people know how to enhance rc.d, secure /etc/inetd.conf or tune kernels to environments? And these are basic admin skills in the UNIX world.

I was raised in a GNU world, along with countless others out there. Our time will come.

General Discussion / SL-A300
« on: June 28, 2004, 03:48:30 pm »
Like the SL-C7/8xx series the SL-A300 is a japanese only market model.

Here in Moscow (via www.price.ru where I found my SL-C860) I notice many places sell the SL-A300 (and nobody sells the SL-5x00, my C860 was hard enough to get!) even though the machine is around 2 years old. May be Anton (Maslovsky) knows of some source to purchase the SL-5x00 here in Moscow

I was thinking of buying one as second machine but the expense (USD $400+) and the lack of expandibility (NO CF slot!!) thus without SDIO on the SD slot there is *ZERO* chance of expanding this system...

One of the (few) English articles on the SL-A300:

http://www.infosync.no/show.php?id=2243

Nobody seems to own one... the odd Zaurus out????

General Discussion / C960
« on: June 24, 2004, 03:47:38 pm »
It seems the SDIO threads are gonna continue and continue

Maslovsky mentioned a NO here... I'm inclined to go with that answer until I hear something definitively to the contrary!

As for the C960... bluetooth's main function on a PDA is GPRS via a GSM phone (OK it can do LAN stuff but thats more WiFi's domain). So is the US GSM market big enough? (Assuming a US launch.. the Euro GSM market is certainly large enough)

On that track one would assume (having not tested the waters with the SL-Cxxx outside of Japan) the SL-C960 (if it comes about) would be a Japanese market model. The likelyhood of that depends on the market penetration of Bluetooth (thus GPRS services) and WiFi in Japan... any Japanese perspectives here?

Cheers

General Discussion / Run slackware on new sony?
« on: June 23, 2004, 04:27:42 pm »
Had to come with the obligatory "memory stick" port didn't it
That Sony added a CF port shows that even they are coming around to the fact that proprietary expensive memory is a thing of the past.

As for the rest of it.... *yawn*... reminds me of a 1997 Toshiba Libretto on steroids.

The 20GB 4200RPM drive is like something out of a timewarp - wanna upgrade it? I upgraded a VAIO drive once.. it was a nightmare - not like the 5 minute procedure with your average toshiba or thinkpad

It seems cool at a glance. But on further inspection it's kinda lame.

Yeh and it runs Windoze... what else can I say!
