Zaurus - pdaXrom / /etc/pcmcia/config Gone?
« on: September 01, 2006, 11:39:52 am »
A few months ago I sold my C860 and bought a Dell Axim.  I came to realize I was on crack that whole time and have just purchased a C3200.

I have a Hawking CF Wired Ethernet card that I had working on my C860.  I had to edit the /etc/pcmcia/config file and add three lines with the manfid and driver and so on.  Now, I'm trying to get this same card working with my C3200 and I can't find the file to edit.  I tried creating the file but I still couldn't get my internet to come up.

the pccardctl ident comes up as:
Socket 1:
product info: "Fast Ethernet", "CF Size PC Card", "1.0", ""
   manfid: 0x0149, 0xc1ab
   function: 6 (network)

I used to put the following in the /etc/pcmcia/config file:
card "Fast Ethernet"
manfid 0x0149, 0xc1ab
bind "pcnet_cs"

Where do I put that now?

edit: I'm running beta4

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Offlineimap Package
« on: July 06, 2005, 05:31:38 pm »
I have installed:
python-codecs
python-core
python-dbus
python-fcntl
python-io
python-math
python-stringold
python-xml
python-re
python-unixadmin
python-distutils
python-netclient
python-mime
python

I'm not at all sure how these relate to the packages for the sharp rom.  I haven't used it in ages.  For the 5500/5600, I know openzaurus has a package for offlineimap.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Offlineimap Package

While there isn't a package for it, offlineimap is only a script, python I believe.  I have it working on my Z right now.  You'll need to install an extra python package, (Sorry I don't remember which one right at the moment) Once that's installed you can copy offlineimap.py to someplace in your path, or create a symlink.

General Discussion / Free Webmail Accounts

www.myrealbox.com has free pop3 access and webmail.  Novell uses it as a test site so there is a small amount of down time but there is no advertising or anything.  It also has IMAP access.

I haven't checked the webmail from the zaurus though.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Are you running pdaXrom and for what?
« on: December 09, 2004, 11:50:15 am »
I use it as my mini laptop.
*Browse the web
*VNC into my MythTV computer and use it as a remote
*Writing in my journal
*Play with web design
*Slowly learning to program
*Ssh into my desktop
*Listen to music

When I'm going on a trip I'll put a couple tv shows on a CF card and bring them with, but I don't do that on a normal basis.

Deals and Great Z Buys / Sl-6000l On Amazon For $300 Right Now!

Thanks for the info gretchen.  Somehow as a new seller he seems to have bypassed the limit of 8 sales.
I'm sorry for the miscommunication.  The limit is a dollar amount not a fixed number of sales.  Due to legal reasons I'm not sure if I can give out the exact amount...  Lets just say 300x8 plus a few other orders comes out to a nice round number.  The system is not perfect and as it looks like a bunch of people ordered at once    A few orders may have gone through before the 'over the limit' registered.

On occasion, an Amazon Marketplace purchase cannot be completed.

In this case, the seller is currently unable to accept payment."

That means he did indeed go over his limit.

@blackspion  They shouldn't have told you it was a problem with your credit card.  International cards work fine, and the e-mail you recieved was the standard one for seller over limit instead of the standard unable to charge your credit card.

While I currently have no interest in purchasing a 6000 I was formerly employed as a customer service representive at Amazon.com.

Amazon WILL refund you your money through the A-to-z Guarantee if you don't get the Zaurus you ordered.  If you have any problems with this, ask to speak to a supervisor.  Supervisors are one above a "Team Lead" and you should have a choice to speak to a lead or supervisor when the call is escalated.  They may not get on the phone, they may have to call you back.  (Triple sucky, but while I was there they always called back within 24 hours)  You may have to wait the 3 extra days past the estimated delivery date but they will give you your money.  If you make enough of a stink you can get a small gift certificate too.

The department that deals with 'sellers' is completely seperate from the general customer service you get when you call.  For privacy reasons information flows primarily one way.  Even if they are shutting this guy down, they can't tell you for 'his' privacy.  Sucky I know.  However, if he gets enough complaints against him he will be shut down.  (Since I didn't work in that department I'm not sure about the whole law enforcment thing.)  I think it's three guarantee claims for new sellers as he obviously is.

This does smell a little to me, because at $300 he'd only be able to sell eight a month due to limits put in place by Amazon.  That's a little less than the 17 he claimed to have.  Also I read he said he sent some priority.  That's pretty unusual if you asked for normal shipping.  Shipping can get expensive and he doesn't get the full 3.95 or whatever it is they charge on electronics for shipping.  Amazon takes a cut out of that too.

With all the people interested in the new release, sweatin' Laze about it, it's pretty lame to look at the Donate-o-meter on the pdaXrom site and see that they've only received $69 so far this month. The work they're doing is tough and requires skills that most of us don't have. I just made a donation and challenge all other pdaXrom users to go and do likewise!
Done!

And despite the silly comment I made earlier, I bear no hard feelings toward the team for the delay.  I work in tech support and it has happened to me many times where we think we will have something done at a certain time and it doesn't happen because something doesn't go as planned.

We should all remember too that the Donate-o-meter only updates once a day.

I can't thank you guys enough for pdaXrom in the first place.  It has made my Zaurus into a true mini laptop and if I had to, I could use it as my main computer.  It's one of the best things that has happened to the Zaurus.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / For Pocketop/all other keyboard users
« on: November 22, 2004, 06:12:32 pm »
FWIW I have one too but I don't use it now that I have the C860 keyboard.  The pockettop keyboard is hard for me to use in the terminal which is where I do most of my typing.  As far as typing documents goes it's more uncomfortable for me to type at the extra small pocketup then to peck at the C860.  Probably becuase I'm not trying to touchtype up to speed.
