Hi,

Is the file "japanese-support-c1k_&_c860_1.23_supplementary.zip" still available somewhere ?  I'm going to try this procedure to restore my C860 to a full Japanese dictionary and this is the only file I can't find online.

Thanks,

Peter.

Hi,

Hope you'll find it useful:

Hi,
I have a question on installing Japanese support on my C1000

1) I've Flash with Full Cacko ROM 1.23
2) Install the Japanese support packages:
http://web.mol.ru/~zaurus/feed/japanese-help_1.23_arm.ipk , and then
http://web.mol.ru/~zaurus/feed/japanese-su...1k_1.23_arm.ipk

The Qtopia doesn't restart automatically and it reported error. However, it works but Japanese handwriting input gives a square for the selection. I remove, re-install the japanese-su...1k_1.23_arm.ipk but the problem still exists.

Is it correct to install the japanese-su...1k_1.23_arm.ipk , not the japanese-support_1.1_arm.ipk?

Please advise.

Install the exact packages I have linked to.

In step 2, the order in which you install the packages isn't critical. And you can just manually reboot Qtopia.

Then go to step 3 and continue to the end.

Incorrect files in the package that rokudo supplied (he had C1000 but created a c3100 package as well).  Please help.

Perhaps you did not read my introductory post: I created this thread and the guide specifically for C860 and C1000.
These are the models I actually own so the packages I created have been tested and I know for certain that they work correctly.

Although I have tried my best to explain what each step of the conversion guide actually does, I have no idea if these steps work the same way with the newer models. And I did not make any packages for the C31000.

btw,  forget about the Japanese kernel, it's meant for the earlier Cxx0 models  (read post#21 to 28).

For Sale / Wanted / Selling Zaurus Battery
« on: June 06, 2006, 04:09:29 am »
Update (for anyone interested):

After my May 7 post (#138) , I immediately emailed Lauter to complain about the battery. He promised to send a replacement that works as advertised, but after a few follow up emails and 1 month later still no battery in sight.

And based on what I've since found out, I suspect the battery I have is not "defective" at all but actually represents the typical performance:
Apparently its "Max 1700mAh" (printed on the sticker),  not "1800mAh" as claimed by Lauter in post #117.
 [ Invalid Attachment ]
But as someone has pointed out in a previous post, 7210 Nokias are using BLD-3 batteries which are rated at only 760mAh.
http://www.nokiausa.com/nokia_accessories/...2224,10,00.html

An actual capacity of 760mAh(or slightly less) would match the results I got in my tests.

And searching ebay.de for "maxcell" batteries:
http://search.ebay.de/maxcell_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8
Practically all these different maxcell batteries have the same  "1700 mAh" printed rating regardless of their physical sizes or phone models.  I think we can make some obvious assumptions here.

The "raw" battery is suspect, and the seller is not reliable, so my advice to potential buyers is to look elsewhere for a replacement battery.

Even if you are willing to accept the 760 mAh capacity,  what practical use is a battery that can barely last a half-day of normal usage on your C860 Zaurus?

Put your 35 Euros to better use and go buy a reputable brand, eg this Mugen Power battery:
http://www.lionbattery.com/description.php?noproduit=56
Its not the slim type, but at least you know you're getting the correct capacity.

Alternatively search in Amazon.com, from time to time you may find sellers for the slim battery:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000645V...glance&n=172282

And for people who are happy to pay 35 Euros for a 760mAh battery, I'll sell you mine at half price

General Discussion / I Mounted A 2 Gig Sd Card!
« on: May 18, 2006, 07:48:34 am »
Quote
Could someone tell me how to restart the sd control processes using either the original script from Dr Wowe or bimbo's version? I am running Cacko 1.23 Lite on a C860. When I install the ipk and reboot, I can read a 2GB or 4GB card fine. Once. But suspending or unmounting and removing the card kills the process and after that the sd slot is entirely dead. Inserting a card, trying to mount /dev/mmcda1, and other attempts all fail and don't even generate any error messages in dmesg. If I remove and reinstall the driver ipk, things work again. But only once.

I've tried quite a few commands to reset or restart the sd control processes when this happens, but apparently not the right ones, or at least not in the right order. What's the trick?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126352\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I came across the same problem yesterday when reinstalling Cacko on my C860, this is how I managed to get it to work:

1) install the SDIO drivers and reboot.
2) copy bimbo's script onto Notepad (or any plaintext editor on your PC).
 [ Invalid Attachment ]
3)transfer to the Zaurus' usr/sbin directory to replace the original sdiomgr script. Make sure to set the appropriate file permission (easily done with TreeExplorerQT)
4) Open this new script with ZEditor, and check the very first line.  It should be:
#!/bin/sh
But chances are there will be a an extra character before the # (on my Japanese C860 its a square box). Somehow Windows had automatically added this character into the script rendering it useless.
So delete this junk character and make sure you save the script as a UTF-8 encoding.
5) Reboot and enjoy 2GB and above SD card support.

Sharp ROMs / Japanese Kernel For Cacko Rom 1.22
« on: May 18, 2006, 06:45:41 am »
Ok, spent the entire evening yesterday reinstalling Cacko with the new patch plus all the rest of my software and user settings (urgh..).

Had a bit of a scare when I couldn't get the C-Guys SDIO drivers to work on Cacko, but it turned out my Windows PC had corrupted the sdiomgr script.

So now everything's working flawlessly, plus I gained 30 MB of free internal storage

Thanks again Maslovsky.

(Now I need to find some time to update my conversion guide)

Please, try this update (for C7x0/C860):

http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/rom/1.23/C...-1132170506.zip
http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/rom/1.23/C...-1132170506.md5

This kernel is built without remapping Japanese keys to Ctrl and Alt.

Thank you very much !

Will try out the patch now.

would it make sence, if i flash the Cacko1.23 with the japanese Kernel from the 1.22??

I've actually tried it earlier on. It does release the two keys, but unfortunately it will also screw up the memory card mount/unmount process, among other things...

Hi Lauter,
In case you missed it, I sent you an email last week regarding my order which I still have not received (I paid you a month ago).
Waiting for your reply.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=124012\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Update;  finally received the battery yesterday after 1 and half months of waiting.

So I did some simple tests, playing MP3s nonstop on my C860 with volume and screen brightness set at half.

Unfortunately at full charge this new battery (1800 mAh ?) lasted only 1 hr 53 mins, even less than my 2 year old original BL-06 (950 mAh) battery which lasted 2 hrs 8 mins.

So it seems I've received a defective battery too

Cxx0 Hardware / Stylus Won't Stay In Silo
« on: April 22, 2006, 07:42:02 am »

Having difficulties getting the stylus to stay in the silo on my C760 & its getting worse.

Anyone have any idea how to improve the silo grip so I don't keep replacing the stylus.

Is there a similar problem with newer models as I have a C3200 on order.

Mike
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=124031\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

There's a springy catch near the bottom of the silo that latches onto the neck/groove of the stylus to keep it in place.
Try sticking in a small piece of paper behind the catch to tighten the fit.

Fortunately you can get to it without opening up the case. Remove the stylus, battery cover and battery and look in the battery compartment, put the stylus back in slowly and you`ll see the catch moving.

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=123485\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Nope, not gonna work ... had to uninstall and reboot again to get the SD slot recognised. I'll just have to content myself with the 1G limit, I suppose.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=123688\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

For the driver to work properly you just need to replace /usr/sbin/sdiomgr with the script from this post : [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=17208&view=findpost&p=115923]https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=115923[/url]

For you to have implied that my info was wrong just because you couldn''t get the same results isn't such a good idea either. Who else uses google.jp here? And you don't need to do phrase searching (ie using quotation marks) unless the search results get too general.
Anyway I think my reply to the OP was clear and simple enough so I'll not belabour the point.

Maybe things have changed since you performed your search, but it's not in the first hit now, or even on the first page. But here it is in any case:

http://www.hloeffler.info/epwing/

What are you talking about? Its right there in the first hit of the first page:

http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&...=utf-8&oe=utf-8

How much more simpler can it get?
