Linux Issues / Help! I can\'t ftp to the Z
« on: August 25, 2004, 08:59:21 pm »
hi,

the 4242 port is intended for syncing,

if you can telnet, you could always install a ftp server on your desktop, then  telnet to your z and 'get' the files from the pc

Well, the results of my experiment are...

when you go from a kernel with a ramdisk to one with none, nothing goes wrong :-)

hiya,

wierdly, what i did to fix this was install opera6 from the openzaurus feed, then make sure that worked, then install opera7.

If I flash my 5500 with just the zImage on the CF card with a kernel with a different ramdisk size to the one i currently have installed, what will happen?

i have noticed the contents of /dev/ram only vanish after resets, not reboots.

the default vi is mostly complete, you must mean vim, the oz feeds have a good selection, i find vim, vim_rt and vim-syntax-min to be adequate for even c development on my 5500

i thought that the pocket top used an irda driver to interface with the kbdsim.o kernel module, then it would work with everything (like vnc) by just sending keys to /dev/kdbsim

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / wireless cf card zonet zcf1100
« on: August 16, 2004, 10:13:20 am »
its not 'really' the cf/pcmcia loader, zonet make terrible cards. (i have several, all pcmcia and cf cards are very un-reliable)

my zonet cards usually disconnect me and drop the connection after about 26mb of data transfer. this isnt good.

the chipset isnt the problem, just zonet's implementation of it. for instance, the origio card has the same chipset and works every time with the same drivers, with and without encryption (same manfid etc)

if you can help it, dont buy zonet stuff. they might be cheap but they are one of the worst card makers ever

General Discussion / Wireless LAN CF Card Questions

I ust got one of those cards, (ebuyer?) :-)

so far ive got best results from using the orinoco_cs driver and not hostap, (less hastle with encryption)

ive submitted a zug review of it but that will probably never see the light of day.

read up on the /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts file , you can create your own card scheme for each network you use. then u can do stuff like 'cardctl scheme work' or 'cardctl scheme home' etc.

get to grips with iwconfig aswell, :-)

oh, the orinoco_cs driver makes the card eth0, not wlan0.

if you do,

#$ cardctl ident

what do you get.

I had this with a very cheap prism1 based card, i gave up on it in the end as it would only work 1/2 the time when it was in my laptop.

zonet make some terrible cards.
the (zcf1100)  one I had wouldnt work properly in anything I own. so i sold it.

it 'does' work under linux, i had it working in my laptop using the orinoco_cs driver and it was 'ok', but it would only associate about 75% of the time, and never if it was in slot0.

in my sl5500 under various roms using the hostap driver or orinoco_cs it just sits and refuses to assiociate with anything,

I also have some pcmcia zonet cards and they are just as crap,

my advice, spend an extra £10 and get a nice card that wont make you tear your hair out, and sell your zonet one on ebay :-)

if your mouse is a little off do this,

1. delete /etc/tssim_cal.conf
2. reboot your Z
3. when opie or opie_login starts, dont touch anything on screen
4. use the stylus to touch once in the top left and the once in the bottom right
5. login as normal and start the vnc server from one of the icons :-)

the syntax for ln to create a symbolic link is :-

ln -s <source> <new-link>

enjoy :-)
