Angstrom & OpenZaurus / openzaurus login? how do i start opie

ok i found out the proble, did /etc/init.d/opie start and it won't start because grep wasn't found.

now i atleast know why and how this came about. i'm not a big linux user, pretty newbie-ish and i didn't know grep was vital and i've uninstalled it

solution would be to reinstall grep but how?
what package do i need and how can i install it from terminal since aqpkg won't run (as its graphical i assume) and i don't habe a grep package on my sdcard.

will i have to reflash or can i get grep onto my sd card and use ipkg (which i'm not sure how to use though)

have major problem.
was messing around with iwconfig and when i rebooted i get booting message and then openzaurus login. can do zaurus but don't know what password it needs - not accepting nothing or password. root  goes straight to command line but how do i get it to start opie like it used to?
no idea why it has suddenly stopped loading as useful and cant find solution on web, really stuck - nly thing i can think of if reflashing rom but its late and i'd rather not do that today.
any help would be appreciated

Security and Networking / Origo Wifi card networking adhoc to winxp &netgear

Have openzaurus 3.3.5 and edited files to get driver for my origo cf wifi card.
Trying to setup adhoc connection btween that and my winxppro netgear ma111 usb dongle.

have turned on internet connection sharing for my lan (as the pc connects to adsl router/modem) and netstumbler gets signal noise that clearly changes when my pda is moved further in the room yet cant ping 192.168.0.1  (the gateway) or even 192.168.0.2 (what the zaurus is set as)

have *nix friend helping and even he was a bit puzzled but then again its hard to tell if settings are wrong on the zaurus or on winxp.

the only thing we came up with was that some file needs editing so it automatically comes up as adhoc (goes to managed when plugged in) and with any ssid etc but that doesn't seem to be why we can't get connection working since we changed the settings to adhoc etc and still no luck on actual ping.

how to share internet is a secondary concern since we cant get the wifi network working right now. stumped (and in need of sleep) so was hoping by tomorrow there might be some answers here, maybe.

Security and Networking / Wifi with zaurus to desktop - sharing internet etc

Hi

I want to be able to have a wifi adhoc between my zaurus sl5500 (running openzaurus 3.3.5 and using origio cf wifi 802.11b, which is recognised thanks to the hack of network files) and gentoo linux with netgear ma111. only problem is i'm not sure what settings i need for this, as my desktop has internet from a router/modem, do i need to be bridging the internet to the zaurus?

i'm not terribly knowledgeable about linux or networking past the basics, so if anyone has got anything like the above setup help would be really great, even if its only help with one of the things i need to do to get it setup.

even help sorting it out to work with the zaurus and win xp would be good, though i'd prefer to be able to use it with linux as i use that most of the time and i would have thought linux to linux might be easier to manage somehow.

anyway, so far even putting in essid and adhoc and wep encryption keys, i havent got it working. i have knoqueror installed, are there extra settings i need to put in to get internet sharing? under winxp i've already selected adhoc and to bridg the wifi to my lan (which is my internet connection).

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / IPKG for openzaurus?

is there any way enable the ipk installer opening a ipk up from tapping on it in documents, like is in the sharp rom?
i have openzaurus 3.3.5 and aqpkg, but don't mind having to put an different pckage manager on (if there are any others for it).

Sharp ROMs / Weirdness in OZ 3.3.5

have a few weird things happening in oz 3.3.5 on my sl-5500

1. the onscreenkeyboard has shrunk to 2/3 size of originally, was fine for a while after flashing, then just went like that
2. same kind of problem happens on games menu, wasn't there before and has occured after recent reboot, that i go to games on  the menu and it doesn't slide out and display all the games but loads one. i never see the whole menu anymore and it always loads a game somehow without me selecting anything
3. gpdf (or gpdf2) don't work. pdfs under doc tab are hav ethe ? on them and cant be loaded and the pdf reader just quits as soon as i click to run it, only see the icon on taskbar for a second.

anyone come across these or know how to fix them? is it this version or just my install?
