For Sale / Wanted / Fs/t: 5500 Sl - Update

Looks like I'll also be able to sell my FM transmitter, as I went ahead and ordered the iPod and picked up a Griffin transmitter that they had a deal on.  So, if anyone is interested in an FM transmitter, I'll sell it for $10 and could sell you 4 AAA Rayovac rechargable batteries with it for another $8.  I think they list for $11 a pack at WalMart, but these have only been recharged a few times and have only been used with the transmitter - it uses 2 at a time.  I'll email you the details on the tramsitter if you're interested - it's out in my car right now and I'm feeling lazy.

Also, since I have officially purchased the iPod, this Z absolutely must go.  I'm not in as big a rush as I was since the iPod is on the way, though, so feel free to email with questions as I'm able to take my time dealing on this now.

Thanks!

BTW, here some are details I forgot in the original post(I finally read the sticky for this forum).
- Located in Covington, LA and willing to ship anywhere.  If you're outside US, I'll have some questions to ask before agreeing to a sale.
- Prefer Paypal
- Can't remember how old this is.  I've been using it for about a year and I bought it used for a pretty penny back then.

Okay, I think I've settled on what I really want to make on this.  So, here are the prices for the things I have.  If you need to negotiate, send your counter-offer, but be aware these will go to the best offer I get within the next day or so, because I really want to get a 1G iPod mini before they are all gone!  If you want to see my eBay feedback, my eBay id is toddnmary.  I have a good rep on the lowend Mac swaplist and could give references if need be.

$120 for complete 5500sl with original box and accessories
$10 for CF to PCMCIA adapter
$10 for Proxim PCMCIA wifi card - excellent range and low power usage(lower than many CF wifi cards)
$35 for 512MB CF card - Lexar brand 4X speed - only a few months old
$15 for 128MB CF card - Viking brand - not sure on speed, less than a year old
$8 for 64MB CF card  - SimpleTech or Edge brand
$10 for 64MB SD card - DaneElec brand

I can't sell all the CF cards because I need to keep 2 of the 64/128s for my digital camera.  At this point, I'm only interested in selling cards as a bundle with the Z, but will sell some individually after the Z is paid for by someone.

The only 2 things you need to be aware of are that there are some scuffs on the plastic around the screen from the cover rubbing it in my case, which is a cell phone stretchy kind that puts the squeeze on it a little.  A very light scuff is also on the bottom left of the sliding part.

There is also a shadow that show up on the screen that is cause by a very faint apparent imperfection in the plastic of the screen on the inside.  It is only even noticeable when the screen behind it is white or light in color.  In normal circumstances, I never even notice it.  I am attaching 3 pics to show what I'm talking about.  If they don't show up right, email me and I'll send them to you.

Peace,
Todd Russell

Security and Networking / Adding wifi drivers to Sharp 3.13?
« on: August 31, 2004, 07:55:08 pm »
Problem solved!!!

bernr had the following suggestion:

card "Proxim"
manfid 0x0126, 0x0002
bind "prism2_cs"

I never thought to actually try using less info than cradctl was giving me.  I'm all hooked up, now to find a good voip client.

Security and Networking / Replace wireless subsystem?
« on: August 24, 2004, 02:33:35 pm »
Okay, since no one has any ideas on how to add support for my Proxim card from OZ to the Sharp ROM, does anyone know how to just remove all wireless resources from the Sharp ROM and replace them with the wireless subsystem from OZ?  This wireless thing is killing me.  Yeah, I could just buy a supported card, but I really like this card because it has excellent range and the best battery efficiency I've seen on the few cards I have first-hand experience with.  If you're wondering why I don't just switch back to OZ, you can find the answer to that in my other post below - Adding wifi drivers to Sharp 3.13?

While this might be a complicated solution, there should be a way to do it.  I mean, this is linux after all.

Or if anyone has any other ideas, I'm all ears.

Peace,
Todd

Security and Networking / Server Address?

You should be able to click "Run", type in "command" and hit enter.  Then, once you have a dos window open, type "ipconfig" and press enter.  Yes, there are other ways, but I just prefer the old-fashioned way.

Have you tried vnc yet?  If not, get TightVNC for XP and run a vnc client on the Z.  I was able to control my Macs like this when I had OZ and could actually use my wifi card.

Security and Networking / Wireless and power prob
« on: August 24, 2004, 02:38:27 am »
AFAIK, when you plug in the power on the Z, it supplies 5v to the ports instead of the usual 3.7v.  Maybe your card can't handle the stronger current?  I don't have any documentation to point you to on this one other than the voltage listing on the back of the unit, but here's how I tested this:

I have a Kingston 2gb pcmcia hard drive.  I tried it using my compact flash to pcmcia adapter and it seemed to work, but when I started playing a song from it, it would stop and power down.  I figured the power on the port wasn't enough to keep it going on a sustained level.  So, just to test my theory, I plugged the good old ac in and was able to use the drive indefinitely.  Based on this evidence, I have to conclude that it does in fact supply 5v to the cf slot when on ac.

Now, knowing that, I would say that your card is only a 3.3v card and the 5v overloads it, causing it to stop working.  I don't know what to suggest to you other than getting a cf to pcmcia adapter and using a compatible laptop card that supports both, or looking for a cf card that will.  I have an OEM Proxim pcmcia card I was using with OZ, but it doesn't show up in the Sharp ROM(see the networking section if you have any suggestions) and it worked fine one either battery or ac.

Peace,
Todd

Security and Networking / Adding wifi drivers to Sharp 3.13?

I have a 5500 and am trying to use an OEM Proxim PCMCIA wifi with my cf-pcmcia adapter under the latest Sharp ROM. This thing worked beautifully in OZ, but the Sharp ROM doesn't cooperate with it. Cardctl ident gives the following:
Socket 0:
product info: "PROXIM", "LAN PC CARD HARMONY 80211B", "", ""
manfid: 0x0126, 0x0002
function: 6 (network)
Socket 1:
no product info available

I tried adding orinoco.o and orinoco_cs.o from OZ to the modules directory and the following to wlan-ng.conf, but got no results:
card "PROXIM LAN PC CARD HARMONY 80211B"
version "PROXIM", "LAN PC CARD HARMONY 80211B"
manfid 0x0126, 0x0002
bind "orinoco_cs"

Also tried binding to prism_cs with no luck.

I would just go back to OZ, but 3.2 is such a pain with the delayed suspend issue and the slow card ejection.  I tried the 3.3.6 rom, but couldn't get KO/Pi to run under it and gave up.

Surely there is a way to get this card running under since it works so perfectly under every version of OZ I've tried.  Any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Peace,
Todd

Whewwww!  That was close.  Refusing to give up, I tried one last thing... flashing with 3.2 OZ.  It is now working again.  I think I'll stay away from that latest Hentges ROM revision.  Oh well, back to the drawing board, but at least I'm not out a Z.

5x00 Hardware / Bricked??
« on: August 21, 2004, 01:13:44 pm »
Haha!  Being the stubborn bastard that I am, I decided to keep playing around.  No matter how many times I tried Hentges, it just wouldn't turn on.  I had resigned myself to no more Z.  Well, I decided to try one last thing.  I d/l-ed the 3.2 stable OZ and flashed with that.  It is booting as I type this!  So, DJ, try flashing with another ROM to see if that fixes it.  If this doesn't go totally right, I'll post more with a final damage report, but right now it's looking like I'm bacck in action.

I can't believe this $^!#.  The thing just bricked my friend's 5500.  Thanks for the help Dan, but I guess we can stop here since I no longer own a Z now that I'm going to have to give him mine.  It sound like someone else here had a similar problem - see "Bricked?".  Maybe that ROM should be pulled before other people lose their Zs.  I'm so mad right now, I just don't know what else to say.
