That was Speculatrix and he bricked his first 6000L doing it.  He made a FrakenZaurus out it by combining it with a 6000L that fell off a roof.

Breast pocket not good place for a 6000 when bent down to pick something up on the roof...Rather than dive after it and go off the roof, I opted to sadly watch it slide away. Display was hosed, but seemed otherwise 'thumbs up', was close to 2 meters give or take, on to concrete  I was too impressed to be all that upset.

Lesson learned, I have a secured solution for my next Zaurus when I'm carrying it.

I would love to mod one in to my car.

Just got home from the day job (that place I go to fund my developing/tinkering) and was pleased to see no one had grabbed the package off my doorstep.

Saves me from having to wait until Monday to go pick it up.

God bless the USPS for delivery on Saturdays, where UPS makes you pay extra.

I hope you enjoy your C1000 half as much as I will enjoy working on the 5600s.  Now to figure out a decent way to make 'em talk to each other.

Ow! Ow! My arm! My arm!

Let me check my budget, but I've been looking at getting a 2nd poodle so I can get into keeping development alive. So many packages I want/need updating, but am afraid of breaking my main poodle in the process of getting them or "over-tweaking"

I just don't want to over-extend my budget too much. It's another 2 weeks till payday.  Keep me posted, please.

Accessories / Sl-5600 Ac Adapter

Hi,
I have sl-5600 and can't find my ac adapter, rendering it semi useless . Sharp didn't have it, and I was wondering if this type of adatper (a generic perhaps) is available at Radio Shack or equivalent?

Thanks...

You're going to need an adapter that puts out 5vDC at 1.0amps.

If you're lucky, the radio shack salesperson will know what you're talking about.

I've found that my old Cassiopeia power adapters work nicely.
(And they fit on a surge protector better than the square version that Sharp uses)

Best of Luck,

For Sale / Wanted / Looking For A Sled For 6000-l
« on: February 13, 2006, 03:54:02 pm »
Hello community,

I am an amateur radio operator and I really need a sled for the next level of my zaurus development and technical hacking.

I'd like to make my 6000 the center of my communications array, and for that I need the extra CF slot and extended battery life. (My current battery already drops one notch after I start using it on wifi)

I'm holding off on doing a lot of development because I don't have the necessary equipment, and I'm hoping that someone out there knows someone, or is willing to part with it themselves.

I can be reached here at the boards.
Funds are limited, but I'm hoping we can work something out.

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Zug Feed Problem
« on: September 26, 2005, 12:27:20 am »
Hello,

I'm not sure who to address this to, but here goes:

I'm in the process of making a backup of all my ipk's that I use so I can severely hack my zaurii. I'm having difficulty getting some of the ipks from the ZUG feed.

It seems that the index page is in desperate need of being rebuilt as there are packages listed when I use Qinstall (sharp ROM) that aren't listed on the index page.

So, in short, could some kindly admin run the appropriate script to get the page rebuilt rather than make me try and do multiple wget's from the command line?

Thank you in advance for your time.

5x00 Hardware / Ambicom Gps-cf Pro Install
« on: November 28, 2004, 07:20:05 am »
Turns out I was missing a Zlib update.

Uninstalled old version and upgraded to new version, reinstalled qpeGPS and it's working great now. Card was configured correctly.

Now to get some maps.

I recently recieved a Ambicom GPS-CF Pro reciever.

I'm wondering about the best way to get my reciever up and running.

I've tried qpeGPS, but I might be missing something. It runs gpsd but GPS is question marked out. GMT signal is showing 01/27/02 and I'm not getting a latitude longitude signal.

Security and Networking / TCP over USB fails after suspend
« on: October 20, 2004, 01:22:09 am »
My solution was to "Bridge" the connections in Windows XP.
(Zaurus Interface and Network Interface)

Otherwise, Windows uses the "most recent" network connection and the Zaurus connect is pre-empting your gateway connection.

Open up Network Properties, Click on your Ethernet Interface, CTRL-Click on the Zaurus interface while it's connected (In other words, Highlight both interfaces)and then Right Click. Select Bridge connections.

This should take care of your networking problem while the Zaurus is connected.

Open up terminal, su root
cd /etc/hotplug
vi routeadd.sh

#!/bin/sh
route add default gw 192.168.0.1

Save the file.

vi routedel.sh

#!/bin/sh
route del default

Save the file.

Open up /etc/hotplug/usbd.func

At the end of the first function add the line
/etc/hotplug/routeadd.sh

At the end of the second function add the line
/etc/hotplug/routedel.sh

Make sure the routeadd.sh and routedel.sh are executable.

5x00 Hardware / WCF12 install woes
« on: October 02, 2004, 02:46:22 am »
I have a WCF12. (I have 2, but that's another story)

I currently am not getting an LED on the WCF12 when I insert the card and my SL-5600 isn't recognizing the card.

Socket 0:
   3.3V 16-bit PC Card
   function 0: [busy]

That's all it says.

Am I missing something or is the WCF12 not compatible with 1.32 Sharp ROM?
