I'm wondering if anybody is (successfully) using a Wireless USB 802.11x Network Adapter on their Z.  If so, what Z are you using?  Which ROM?

Thanks in advance!

Jason.

Did you ever find out whether a usb wireless device would work in pdaXrom or not?  I am considering getting one.

Thanks,

Jason.

The pdaxrom is definitely faster than pocketworkstation.  The main reason for people to use pocketworkstation is because it is easier to use stock rom applications *and* X11 applications.

Thanks for your insight!      I'll be flashing to Cacko in the near future.  Your comment regarding pdaXrom's superior performance compared to pocketworkstation made me think a dual-boot setup might be in order, but after reading a few related threads, I don't think I want to go there!!

ok, this is how I see it and this is just my opinion

Sharp ROM = complete PDA feel (needs customisation to be useful)
Cacko = Sharp ROM minus Japanese plus bug fixes and customisation/enhancements
Sharp ROM/Cacko with PocketWorkstation = hybrid PDA  and X windows desktop
pdaXrom = complete X windows desktop
OpenZaurus = bleeding edge opensource linux system??? not sure here, haven't had time to try yet
OpenBSD = well, its BSD for the Zaurus I guess
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=108919\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thanks for the input!      I hope you don't mind if I ask a few more questions...    If I don't need the Japanese part of the stock Sharp ROM, I am better off running Cacko for my PDA needs, correct?  Is there anything that pdaXrom can do that PocketWorkstation can't?  Is there a difference in performance between the two?

I don't think I'm ready to tackle BSD just yet.  I will have to look into OpenZaurus and see what it is about...

Thanks,

Jason.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Specifically, What Usb Bluetooth Dongle Is Known

I have a C1000 with the Cacko ROM. I found this item Cables Unlimited USB1520 Bluetooth, USB Bluetooth Adapter, at a local Fry's and I was able to get it to work WITH NO SPECIAL tweeks. I have it talking to my Mobile.

You can find it on Amazon too (ASIN: B0006LSIN4)

Awesome!  I'm looking to use a Class 1 USB Bluetooth Adapter with my recently acquired C1000, but I'm not sure that it will 'just work' as yours did.  Is anyone using one with their C1000/C3x00?!

Thanks,

Jason.

As another new C1000 owner (Christmas present) I am wondering what ROM(s) all of the current C1000/3x00 owners prefer.  Stock Sharp ROM w/ Debian Pocket Workstation, Cacko, pdaXrom?  Other possibilities?  And also, why?  What are the advantages/disadvantages?

I would (ideally) like to have as much of a notebook-replacement Z as possible, without giving up the PDA functionality.  My desktop runs Suse Linux.

Thanks in advance!

Jason.

Accessories / Class 1 Usb Bluetooth Device
« on: December 30, 2005, 01:45:59 am »
As I received a C1000 for Christmas, I am wondering if anyone is successfully using a *Class 1* USB Bluetooth dongle with their Z to connect to another computer/access point/router via PAN.  If so, I would like to know what make and model of dongle you are using, which Zaurus and which ROM you are using, whether it worked 'out of the box' or not and what you are connecting to on the other end.  (I am hoping to setup network/internet access for my Z this way.)

Thanks in advance!

Cxx0 Hardware / repair advice for bad NAND blocks
« on: June 08, 2005, 07:08:11 pm »
Well, now it's really toast!  All 8 blocks are bad.  When I try to use the service menu to erase the NAND all I get are errors.  I think this one is done.  I can't really afford to send it back to Japan for repair.  Can someone recommend where in Canada or the USA I might find someone who can solder a new NAND chip (and remove the old one) for me?  For that matter, where would one find a compatible NAND chip?

Or should I just sell my Z for parts?!

Thanks,

Jason.

9. The mail and charge leds will continously light and will turn off after 30secs-2mins

The first time I tried the recovery, this worked as you described.  I was able to perform a NAND restore as well, but I couldn't install a ROM.  I am running through the whole process again -- full NAND erase; recovery; NAND restore.  This time, while doing the recovery, the mail and charge lights have been lit for over 10 minutes and are still!     Any idea why this would happen?

Thanks,

Jason.

Bad NAND flashes are more often the result of CF or SD card problems than NAND erros in my experience.

Try reformating for CF or SD card before copying the NAND file over and try again - it helps of you haven't turned the Z off after the Bad flash, just pop the CF card, reformat, copy nand file, and reflash.

Happened to me about 6 or 7 times so far, I guess the CF gets too fragmented after a while.

Well, I've done a full erasure of the NAND and I still get two bad blocks (#1 and #3) out of eight.  That's before or after I do the recovery and NAND restore.

So, the bad news...

The repair is only temporary. It starts degrading very fast. I was able to put on it a distribution two times but it freezed and beginned the usually partition error stuff.
So, this seems to be a real hardware problem, not only a software one. Any ideas how to repair it? Or how to run some NAND flash independent distribution on it?

Great.  My C760 crashed on me yesterday.    It also has bad NAND flash!  I suspect I could purchase a new C1000 for what it will cost me to send the C760 to Japan for repair.  Are there any other options?

Jason (also with a bricked Z).

Thanks,

No? has anyone got a Seagate microdrive working at all?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=76819\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I purchased a 5GB Seagate CF microdrive awhile ago and it works fine in both my C760 and my desktop's USB 2.0 CF reader.
