Software / Worrisome Backup Alert
« on: December 19, 2005, 04:21:41 am »
I am backing up my Zaurus SL-C3100 using Backup Restore.
When doing the backup I get an alert that says "Please note that all files on Internal Disk will not be backed up".
What does this mean? What will be backed up? What will not be backed up? How can I backup files that are not backedup.

Software / Moving Data From C860 To C3100
« on: October 03, 2005, 11:04:31 am »
I have a Zaurus SL-C860. I will be getting a Zaurus SL-C3100.
On the C860 I rely on using KO/PI, KA/PI, and SafeDee.
Could someone tell me the names and directories of files I will need to transfer from the C860, and the directories in which I will have to place them on the C3100, in order to have my:
- KO/PI calender entries, ToDo list, and catagories
- KA/PI entries, and catagories
- SafeDee entries
I am new to Linux, and I do not know what the file naming conventions or directoriues mean.

Thanks for the help. However, I'm having a problem:
I installed fdisk.
I inserted the CF card that I want to format, and I can see the CF card & its contents when I press the "Home" key on the Zaurus.
I launched the Terminal application.
I entered "su root" to change to root.
I entered "id" to verify the change to root.
I typed the first line of the directions from the URL you provided: "umount /dev/hda1"
I get the following message: "not found"

What should I do?

I have an old 192 MB Simple Technologies CF card that I used in a Psion for years. The Psion died. I bought a Zaurus. Meanwhile the card had corruption problems towards the end of its use in the Psion. How can I format the card on the Zaurus?

Security and Networking / What Is Best Wifi For Sl-c860?
« on: June 29, 2005, 08:59:04 am »
Does anyone have any thoughts concerning which WiFi CF card is best for the SL-C860?
For example, best in terms of:
Ease of use (eas of/as little configuration as possible).
Reliability (dropped network conections etc).
Range.
Working with Apple Airport.
Can any of the cards be used as additional memory for the Zaurus? If so to they come in different sizes?
Battery/power consumption.
Speed.

Thanks for your response. Using a forum like this one is new to me, so I don't understand at all what you were suggesting. It sounds important, so could you please explain.

I would add REMOVETHIS to your email address then bots can't spam it or use a picture with your email in it.

Software / Speak Japanese Wont Uninstall
« on: April 28, 2005, 06:38:52 pm »
Thanks for the help!
I removed the files manually.
I went to edit /usr/lib/ipkg/status to remove the Speak Japanese entry, but there were none in the file. Does that indicate a problem?
Thanks again for all your help.

Hmm, very strange.

Looks like ipkg is confused somehow. I think you have 2 options

1) try reinstalling Speak Japanese from the command line (ipkg install shlsjeneval_2.00_arm.ipk) then try removing it again

2) Delete the files by hand. To do this (su to root)
a) remove the file speakJPeval from /opt/QtPalmtop/bin (cd /opt/QtPalmtop/bin then rm speakJPeval)
 remove SHLsjeneval.desktop from /opt/QtPalmtop/apps/Applications/
c) remove the speakJP directory (and all files inside) in /opt/QtPalmtop/apps/Applications/ (rm -rf speakJP)

If you want to do a complete job, edit /usr/lib/ipkg/status to remove the Speak Japanese entry and delete andy files in /usr/lib/ipkg/info/ that relate to Speak Japanese, probably named shlsjeneval.list, shlsjeneval.control etc

hope that helps

Stu

p.s. technically the console is different than terminal - a terminal runs in the GUI, while the console doesn't need the GUI, but you can usually do everything in a terminal that you can do in console. The zaurus has a command line interface, but you need to shutdown qtopia (the gui) to get to it but there is generally no use as you can use the terminal instead.

Software / Zaurus Sl-c860 Terminal
« on: April 28, 2005, 03:57:29 am »
I'm just starting to learn Linux. I've tried accessing the manual pages by using the man command. This doesn't work. Are the man pages available on the zaurus? If so, how would one access them? Or are help screens available in some other way?

Software / Zaurus Sl-c860 Terminal
« on: April 28, 2005, 03:53:55 am »
In the terminal, some commands return long lists of data that exceed the space of the screen. How would one PageUp or PageDown? Or, how would one set the terminal to display a screen's worth of data at a time?
