I would have been interested in the sled, but never saw the items on sale on ebay.  I guess my timing was off

I had exactly the same results with this version on my C1000.

ditto on my 6K.  Not that I really expected it to work though, as X/QT isn't the same as Qtopia afaik.

PocketPenguin / Internal Storage Discussion

Right, this arguments getting a bit hot. Ultimately, it's DB's decision. .  But I'd like a separate reasonable discussion on this so we can concentrate on other hardware in "hardware" rather than bringing this up over and over again.

At current standing, the CF card is an INTERNAL HARD DISK. It would run on an ATA66 bus, which means you could not unplug it with a battery in the device without risking harm to either. You cannot use it to connect Wifi, Bluetooth, or any other "IO hardware"!!!!! You cannot use it to download files off of your Digital Camera or MP3 player's etc CF card.
Battery life is very critical when it comes to a small platform.  For me, I'd prefer a memory card of some kind.  SD cards, etc are increasing in size and having large price drops.  It won't be long before you'll have the large storage you desire.

Of course there's the issue of speed, which is why there are some that have removed the hard drive from their 3X00's and replaced them with CF's.

Certainly doesn't rise to a flame war status.  At any rate, as long as it has the connector, people can choose.

2 cents.  That's all this is.

Software / Opiereader 0.7j Bug?

I can't remember if I asked this before but if anyone is still able to, could they try the latest version (from this thread) and turn off the double buffering (On the misc tab of the settings dialog) and see if the problem still occurs?

sure.

version m:

1) seems to only want to be installed in the main memory
2) unchecked double buffering, went to full screen, did a page down.  as soon as I did that, the square appeared which showed a border around all the edges, as well as show the bottom task bar.
3) could not exit the reader - the x in the upper right would change color, but fail to exit.  had to use the process manager to kill the pid.   pid seemed to disappear, but the task still seemed there (bottom of the task bar).  went to the task and was then able to x out of the program.

version i (as in indigo):

1) installs to my sd without any complaints.
2) everything works great.  can page up and down without the task bar or the border showing up.  everything is great except a very tiny blue line at the top of the screen (probably from the background).  not sure why it's there.
3) able to exit without any trouble.

Software / Opiereader 0.7j Bug?

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask - either here or by e-mail. Although that is probably a less efficient use of my time I can respond to questions in "coffee-break" time - whereas writing proper documentation would require a chunk of "quality time", which I already have too little of 8^).

aieee.   I was using opiereader 0.7j and was quite happy with it.  At some point, I decided to use 0.7m, simply because it was newer (usually your updates do something good, so I didn't mind).  Unfortunately, it would seem the 'm' introduced a condition I can't get rid of (even going back to 'j' and removing the .conf file did no good).

In full screen mode, the bar on the bottom now shows.  I can't get it to do a completely fully screen anymore (I like to have the entire screen black, with white text).  The bottom bar will always show up if I do a page up or down.  Initially, it does a full screen black (with a tiny blue at the top) now, but when I do a pgup or pgdn, the darn bar at the bottom now shows up.

Is there any way you can think of where I can go back to the behavior of having an entire full screen black?

note: When I switched back to 'j', I couldn't quit the program by tapping on the x in the upper right corner anymore either.  it lights up, but doesnt do anything

Thanks ...

Thanks.

It's in OE and builds fine. I guess a lot of OpenZaurus users will be happy soon.

Win the battle, but lose the war.   In one's zeal to have the source code, yet another developer gets pissed off and discouraged.

It's nice to want things.   It's nice to have things.   It's discouraging to those that can't develope to see this kind of war where in their zeal, as much gets destroyed as is gained.   The zaurus platform has a hard enough time trying to get people to create anything, that we don't always have to be our brother's keeper.  What would have been the big deal to not have the game on OE for now?  You can't get people to be willing to develop and freely give of their time and effort if we always try to be a stickler.  Come on.  It's hard getting anything on the Z.

Ultimately, what would have been the big deal to wait or be less demanding?  Even if he never released the source code, we had at least gained someone's willingness to create.  Who knows what other software figlabs would have been willing to create, if the atmosphere were just a little different.

I suspect his attitude now will be more like "wow, this is cool.  I think I'll create this ... oh, but if I do that ...."

I hope the price was worth it.

Sometimes it's better not to have, and to lose a little here and there so we can gain more in the long run.

I watch as the Z dies a little more each day and it saddens me.

I for one am just appreciative that you bothered to create the program for us.

Please don't let a few sour attitudes stop you from creating more things for the Z.

Thanks.

own mind if it's worth pursuing or not. It should work just fine as a drop-in

thanks!  as you can see, there are others who appreciate this file (as do I).  I looked at that mp4 file that I had trouble with, and indeed it was goofy.  I'm still very glad to have the latest vlc version.

Your work is appreciated!  Thanks again.

are virtually no differences when it comes to simple Zaurus playback. Ever had a closer look at those MP4s? Most likely they're using proprietary codecs or are way beyond the parameter constraints necessary for playback on an embedded system.

ok, I'll take a closer look at the mp4's.  They play fine in vlc 0.85 for windows, so I simply thought that translated over to the Z protocol for protocol.

At any rate, if that much time is consumed, don't bother - it's not a big deal.  I can live with .82 easily.

see the light of day ... Muahahahaha! (Mad scientist laugh  ) Mainly because it is a terrible hack, and I don't really want my name associated with something like that

Is that all the worries you? heck, of course I know you're doing us a favor.  I'm like you, I still use the sharp ROM.  If you have vlc .85 working, I wouldn't mind using it.  I have noticed that .82 can't play a few mp4's I have (neither can the current mplayer).

It's up to you.  Official or unofficial is ok by me

yes and zaurus DOES have remote desktop.  Did you forget?

remote desktop == other side can't see.  I want them to see.  hence vnc.

If you are using windows in this manner then why not use remote desktop?  It allows username logins and seems to run faster than vnc.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=135872\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

sure.  except we're talking zaurus here, remember?  also, keep in mind, remote desktop means the person on the other end can't see what you're doing.
