Zaurus - pdaXrom / Suggestions For Pdaxrom N00b
« on: December 26, 2005, 04:24:27 pm »
My C860 has faithfully served me for almost two years. During this time I have run Cacko, and have been pleased. But I need something which doesn't cause me hassles with Wellenreiter and Kismet, which I use extensively in my job. Thus I am considering pdaXrom.

After wading through the forums for several days I have a good idea what to use for a WM/DE, as I need something which is as fast as possible while still allowing good usability, and something which doesn't use all  the memory in my Z. IceWM and WindowMaker seem a reasonable balance, but I am open to suggestions.

What numbers should I use for flash? Currently Cacko 1.23 is using 32 MB, but that doesn't seem to be enough for pdaXrom. I know that the size will depend on applications. I need (for work  purposes) the following:

Wellenreiter (prefer GUI)
Kismet (prefer GUI)
NMAP (prefer GUI)
E-mail client (MUST support SSL SMTP/POP3)
Browser
FTP client (preferably one which supports SFTP/SSH---GUI preferred, but not critical)
PIM
An FTP daemon
Rsync daemon

I have a 1GB SD card, so I could use that for /home/zaurus (if this is even possible).

I have followed the discussions about KDEPIM/PI with interest. I like this PIM under Cacko, but I cannot live with those slow startup times, especially if there is a network outage when I am not in the office and I need to pull up a phone number in a hurry. Has anyone figured out the issue? Is there another PIM for pdaXrom which is faster (which will also import all my KDE files)?

Is all this possible? Am I better off sticking with Cacko?

Thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Sharp ROMs / Problems With Cacko Feed

The kaddressbook package file is in the feed at the exact location described in the Packages file.  I'm not sure why you are getting a 404 error.  Have you tried since you got this error?

Thanks!

Yes. Just tried an ipkg update, then ipkg upgrade.

Same error:

Yep, this was the second thing I tried before posting. Same result: no keyboard, no mouse.

Has anyone successfully run the fbvncserver from the Cacko feed? It doesn't respond to the keyboard or mouse, no matter how I configure it.

Thanks.

Is there no net-time app in 1.22? Does anyone know of one which works properly (and displays properly)?

Sharp ROMs / Scp Not Working On Cacko 1.21b
« on: December 02, 2004, 08:51:20 pm »
I have seen this several times on my 860. It always shows up after installing a package which modifies /etc/ld.so.conf to add another location for libraries (and it adds a new libssl in the process). tkcMail does this, and OM/PI has done this in the past as well (I don't remember if the latest version does or not). I always install apps to my SD card, so the location usually (for me) is /mnt/card/QtPalmtop/lib

That new location for libraries has a different version of libssl. That version is causing your problem.

You can either edit /etc/ld.so.conf and remove the new line (be sure to run ldconfig afterward), or delete the offending libssl and make  a link pointing to /us/lib/libssl.so.0.9.7

Keep in mind that some apps won't run properly with the libssl which is in the Cacko ROM (tkcMail comes to mind---grrrrr).

I have a C-860 (Cacko ROM 1.21b), which I am trying to connect to a network through any one of several Cisco Catalyst switches via TRENDnet TE-CF100 card (I have tried two of them). If I configure the network connection for DHCP and DNS via DHCP, the Z tries for a couple of seconds to connect before giving up. If I manually configure DNS and hostname and then try to connect via DHCP, the Z tried for several seconds before giving up. However, If I configure a static address for the card, the Z will connect.

The Catalysts are all configured for auto-negotiate (I know because I administer them).

I use the Z (or would like to use the Z) for checking user connectivity problems, as it is something I can easily carry in a Grinder Gear case.

The problem only exists with Catalyst switches. 3Com, Netgear, and D-link switches do not cause the problem.

I have tried to resolve this for months and I finally give up.

Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Software / OM/PI and IMAP
« on: September 22, 2004, 03:53:43 pm »
I upgraded from 1.9.5b to 1.9.6. I now have problems with OM/Pi and my IMAP account. The upgrade didn't copy any settings over (it appears to have created a new directory, and is no longer using the previous directory and settings), so I setup the accounts. When I click on the IMAP account name, OM/PI minimizes to the tray and refuses to check mail. I have checked the settings numerous times, and they are correct (the same settings work fine for the Sharp e-mail client). The IMAP account refuses to work.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Software / KDEpim/PI latest breaks SSH
« on: July 26, 2004, 04:00:03 pm »
I tried that, but it didn't work (for me). After an hour trying to hack through it, I gave up.

I just tried it again, following your instructions (to make sure I didn't screw something up). Still doesn't work.

<uninstalling Kopiemail one more time>

Software / KDEpim/PI latest breaks SSH
« on: July 24, 2004, 04:52:31 pm »
If you use any ssh other than the one included with Cacko's ROM (i.e., install a package on top of what is included in the ROM), you will break things.

The OPIE mail package (which is no longer available) appears to be the problem. After uninstalling it, ssh works.

Oops. Forgot important details....

Cacko ROM 1.2.1 with hotfix B.

I tried this from both an SD-card install and flash install.

I also entered this in the bug tracker at Sourceforge.

Software / KDEpim/PI latest breaks SSH
« on: July 12, 2004, 08:03:05 pm »
I just installed the latest (1.9.3) KDEpim/PI. Synchronization no longer works. I tried it from the command line, and I receive this error:

scp: error while loading shared libraries: scp: undefined symbol: __clz_tab

If I uninstall, ssh works. I uninstalled all KDEpim apps and re-installed, but I still receive the same error.

Any ideas?

Sharp ROMs / GUI ssh scp file transfer software
« on: March 13, 2004, 06:47:25 pm »
There appears to be a bug in scp in that ROM. Whenever I run scp, I get this error:

scp: error while loading shared libraries: scp: undefined symbol: __clz_tab

I get a similar error with sftp:

sftp: error while loading shared libraries: sftp: undefined symbol: __clz_tab

Unless someone knows how to fix it, you are stuck with traditional FTP.
