For Sale / Wanted / For Sale: Sharp Zaurus Sl-6000l New-in-box.

Your little expose made for interesting reading. I tried my best not to take offense when you questioned my motives for posting in "your thread". Apparently you feel that your name carries a lot of weight in this community so, surely I would want to try to associate my sale with you. Unfortunately I never heard of you and it never crossed my mind that I was doing anything other than creating another way for people to find out about my sale. You might not realise it but people often find forum posts through Google and never see other threads in the same forum.

I also tried to respect the amount of time and effort you obviously invested in researching for your post. I could not, however, understand how you could justify posing as a potential buyer and submit questions about my product for your attempt to discredit my auction. This doesn't seem "tacky" to you?

The final straw and the reason why I felt I needed to reply to your attack was your so called analasys of my valuation of the products I'm selling. You disagree with the value I placed on my auctions, which is fine. You apparently put a lot of though into exactly what YOUR estimated value would be. You do not have the right, though, to question my motives and ethics because you disagree with me. It is standard practice in advertising to add up the retail "value" of items and advertise the total "value" as such. It doesn't matter what the seller paid for the items originally. Best Buy does not advertise a computer with a value of what they paid for it. Your allegations that I "stretch the truth" to "maximize my own profits" at the expense of the community not only shows that you believe your opinion to be the only one worth considering, but borders on slander.

If your motivation was to discuss differences of opinion you would have contacted me openly and honestly rather than building a series of public accusations. Apparently you were more interested in insulting my integrity and displaying your own high moral fiber by degrading mine. Now who is giving the community a bad face?

Zaurus SL6000L VGA PDA & EXTRAS over $700 - NO RESERVE
This includes a USB adapter to connect a normal USB device to the mini-USB port and a Secure Digital memory card.

Expansion Sleeve for Sharp Zaurus SL-6000L - $200 Value

I bought this Zaurus SL-6000L a month ago to replace my iPAQ 2215. I wanted a high resolution (VGA) PDA to use my GPS card for navigation. I wasn't able to find any good GPS software for the Zaurus and don't have the time at the moment to mess with it. I love all the functionality this PDA provides with the serial and USB ports, but GPS is too important to me to do without.

One quick, maybe dumb, question.

Suppose I have something that needs to run non-stoppably for the life of three batteries. Can you change the battery in the expansion adaptor without affecting anything, except for the CF, etc on the adaptor?
I believe you can do this by putting whatever needs to run non-stop on the PDA's original CF slot. The only battery you can get to easily is the one in the expansion sleeve and pulling it out should only affect the expansion sleeve CF slot.

So if someone can find a good deal on batteries and a standalone battery charger then you could theoretically use your PDA for 18 hours or more straight by swapping batteries in the sleeve...if you needed to.

I realized that the reason why I had trouble finding the adapter on iRiver.com is that I was looking through their PRODUCTS section. You have to go into their STORE then under portable media and accessories to the bottom of the page.

Mine is in transit.

I know many people don't care about bluetooth, but I need it to connect to my cell phone with my PDA.

If you have a Zaurus SL-6000W and would be willing to trade me for my (mint condition) SL-6000L, I will make it worth your while. I am also willing to buy one outright (and sell mine on eBay) if I have to, but I don't have a lot of capital to be doing that so a trade is better for me.

Why don't you just buy a bluetooth CF card?

Or an Aircable, (although I hear you cannot open the 6000L with the aircable plugged in, but using the screen keyboard should be easy enough for those instances.

Does 6000L have SDIO port?  If so, then you could also try a Bluetooth SD card.

Seems like you taking a big hit for something easily added...
I did get a Belkin CF Bluetooth card, but it doesn't work with the bluez drivers. I can get another CF card, but I would like to keep the CF slot free. I've also got a 4GB Microdrive and CF GPS card.

I think you are out of luck: Bluetooth hardware support for BlueZ.
OUCH! Well there it is in black and white. Guess this thing is going to eBay. Now to decide if I sell this stuff bundled with my old iPAQ or do I try to make more by doing it individually.

So it seems I would really have been better off getting the SL-6000W. Too bad Amazon.com only had the SL-6000L. I'm sure it would have been a lot more $$$ to get one elsewhere (~$400 at the time).

6000 - Tosa / Bug when using second battery in jacket

I have experienced the followng bug with the 6000.  When the battery in the second jacket is drained, the unit will turn off when the Sprint card is in use, despite the primary battery being fully charged.

Has anyone seen bugs like this with the secondary battery
I think you'll find this depends on which CF slot you are using. I know that the sleeve's CF slot is powered by the sleeve's battery. I haven't experimented with the real life implications of this, but theoretically it means that the device in the second CF slot would stop working when the second battery is drained. For something like a modem/networking device I can see how this might crash the system.

Try it in the primary CF slot and see if you have the same problem.

I second the objection about bluetooth. I love being able to access the internet using my cell phone without cables. I haven't set it up yet on my 6k since it doesn't have internal bluetooth and I haven't gotten my Belkin CF card working yet (see other thread).

As for GPS, I happen to have the Pharos iGPS-CF. It worked great with my iPAQ, but I'm getting a bit worried as I look for software for the 6k. I was using Mapopolis which meant I could download maps (no scanning in images), look up points of interest or addresses, generate a route from my present location to the POI/address, see directions to my route in both text and drawn on the map, and hear audio prompts as I drove. So far the GPS software options for the 6k are looking pretty shoddy...but I'd love to be proven wrong. Anyone?

General Discussion / 4GB Hitachi CF Microdrive - Cant mount/fdisk/mkfs
« on: October 27, 2004, 04:13:22 am »
I have a Hitachi 4GB CF Microdrive that I have been using in my iPAQ. When I received my 6k I realized it wasn't mounting when I inserted it. This seems to be because I had, at one time, reformatted this card as FAT32. Whenever I try to reformat this card to FAT16 in Windows XP, it always ends up as a FAT32 volume. When I use Flash Format on my iPAQ, it wont let me choose any option other than FAT32.

I tried formatting it using my 6k by typing "mkfs.ext2 -v /dev/hda1" and received the error "Not enough space to build proposed filesystem while setting up super block". I then tried "mkfs.vfat -F 16 /dev/hda1" and received "WARNING: Not enough clusters for a 16 big FAT! The filesystem will be misinterpreted as having 12 bit FAT without mount option fat=16" then "Attempting to create a too large file system".

Obviously there shouldn't be a problem with not having enough space as this is a 4GB drive, so I thought it must be a problem with the way it is partitioned.

I installed the FDISK package and tried "fdisk /dev/hda1" and received the error "Unable to read /dev/hda1". When I tried "fdisk -s /dev/hda1" I got "Unable to open /dev/hda1".

I'm running out of options. I scoured Google for a utility that could format it using my USB card reader from Windows XP, but I haven't found anything of the sort. I don't have a linux box to do this from. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

6000 - Tosa / USB Adaptor & Cables
« on: October 27, 2004, 03:17:05 am »
I have a CP Technologies 4-in-1 USB Card Reader which has a cable that is normal USB on one end and mini USB on the other. I don't yet know what the whole mini-A vs. mini-B thing is, but I do know that the mini-USB end does not fit my 6k. :(

I really would like to get one of those adapters that's male-female so I can plug a keyboard or whatever straight into it. I didn't see a gender changer in the USB kits and I can't seem to find the iriver one that was mentioned earlier.
