Security and Networking / Cf Wifi & Their Driver Modules
« on: February 18, 2005, 11:51:15 am »
Please can anyone tell me of *any* CF WiFi cards that will load up HostAP drivers *automatically* in pdaXrom ??

I bought a Senao (Prism) CF card - NL2511 CF Mercury - but pdaXrom loads it up using Spectrum drivers, I *think* it was. Anyway, I cannot get it to run on HostAP drivers. I've tried editing the usual config files with the cards manfid etc etc & binding it to hostap, without any luck.

So, what *will* load up with hostap straight away in pdaXrom??

Maybe a Linksys WCF12 ??

Or an Ambicom WL110C ??

Could anyone that uses one of these cards please let me know if it's always used Hostap by "default" or even if they had to force it to use Hostap, how you did it?

Thanks in advance for *any* help/ideas.

I'm trying to get wavemon compiled for pdaXrom to aid in setting up a largish 802.11 network. I'm getting errors in the configure stage (see other thread, "C Compiler Cannot Create Executable"). Has anyone already compiled wavemon? Would anyone with a working development environment be willing to compile it?

Thanks!

Surely Kismet would be a better tool?
You can get signal strength plus a lot more info too.
Or maybe even Wellenreiter?

Please can anyone tell me of any CF wifi cards that will be correctly recognised at boot time & load up automatically using the Hostap drivers ??

Does pdaXrom use Hostap automatically for any cards, or is it a re-config job only?? Any comments pdaXrom Dev Team, please?

I know I need a Prism based card, but which ones does pdaXrom (rc8 or rc9)support "out of the box"??

I was looking into the Linksys WCF12 card & the Dlink 660w.
Does anyone have one of these, or any others & know if it all works automatically with Hostap drivers, or is there any config changes that need to be made??

Thanks very much for any help/ideas

This doesn't work for me ;(
I made a hostap.conf & put the relevant info into it (as above post). I don't have an entry already for the card in hermes.conf or anywhere else, as far as I can see.
The Hostap module doesn't even load up at boot.
I can see crdmgr pick up the info, during boot up, but that's it. Why isn't Hostap even loading?
Any further ideas??

My card:

Senao NL2511CF Mercury

Cardctl ident:

product info: "WLAN", "11Mbps_PC-Card_3.0", "ISL37100P", "Eval-RevA"

manfid: 0x000b, 0x7100

function: 6 (network)

Thanks very much for *any* help anyone can offer.

What card are you using with hostap & did it use hostap "by default", or did you have to do any "hacks" to get it to use hostap??

Thanks.

Hi,

Please can anyone tell me how to get my Senao NL2511 CF Mercury card to work with hostap drivers?

Does Rc8 or Rc9 have *working* Hostap built in?
Or should I install the ones I found here on the forum? I can "modprobe hostap_cs" & then they're listed in lsmod, but how do you get them to load at startup?

I've tried adding the cardctl ident output to various .conf files.
I can't seem to sort this out! All I keep getting at boot up is "Unsupported card" msg, followed with the card info I put in.

Failing all that, is there a Prism based card *known* to work easily with hostap drivers?
I'll happily buy a new card if it solves this hostap problem!

I just want a Prism based card & hostap working! It's why I bought a c700 last week, just for pdaxrom, hostap etc.
I have a 5500 with working hostap etc, on OZ, but I would love to have it on the pdaXrom OS on the c700 instead.

*Please* does anyone have any ideas? I've been struggling with this for a good few days now ;(

Senao NL-2511 CF Mercury (prism3 card afaik)

Cardctl:

Socket 0:

product info: "wlan", "11Mbps_PC_Card_3.0", "ISL37100P", "Eval-RevA"

manfid: 0x000b, 0x7100

function: 6 (network)

It would be great to get this card running with the HostAP drivers, preferably!
I'm new here, so please forgive if this has been covered already! (a link would be nice though, in that case!)

Should OZ + GPE  flash from an SD card or does it have to be a Compact Flash card?
On a 5500 you must use a CF card to flash.

Greg
Thanks alot Greg.

I won't waste any more time playing around now. I'll wait untill tomorrow, when I can get a CF card!

At least I know it wasn't *just me* mucking it up

Thanks again!

SL-5500

Should OZ + GPE  flash from an SD card or does it have to be a Compact Flash card?

I've tried with SD (all i have atm!) but no go......in fact I thought I'd made a nice shiny new brick
It was completely dead - not even an orange power light when plugged into AC

But then I found a quick hard reset resuccitated it!!

Anyway, when trying the C + D + Reset sequence I got no lights - not even the green + orange 1sec flash on & off when no images are found.

So, is it me or the SD card? Will I have to wait untill I get the Compact Flash card sorted?

Thanks for any advice, comments, thoughts....
