Cxx0 General discussions / C860 Keyboard Action Not Fully Translated
« on: December 05, 2004, 05:25:43 pm »

Hi,

I just got a C-860 from dynamism and I've noticed that the keyboard isn't fully translated!  If I press a few keys, like "a", "e", etc., I get Japanese figures.  Same thing happens with the pull-up keyboard in all applications.   Is this a "normal" problem with the Dynamism conversion?  Will switiching to say, Cacko, solve the problem or should I send it back?  Thanks.

might be possible you use an "inappropriate" font. try changing used font. the actual appearance is not equal for all fonts! somehow you're right they're not consistently translated. in emergencies (shell) try invoking via the graphical input (pen field). /d

PS: Opera crashes frequently but this will not hold me off using my beloved Opera....

I retract the nasty statement about the crashes - easy to fix: Just start opera from command line and sort out the displayed errors one by one.
Now Opera stable and this comment  was submitted from the Z via WiFi.

How cool is that - many thanks to all helping to achieve this!!!

Cxx0 General discussions / FTP - how does it work?
« on: November 20, 2004, 06:44:45 am »
Thanks a lot for the swift answers.

looks like FTP is an issue. well, I did not manage to get samba working as supposed. particularly not from linux to linux. sorry, I was never really educated in computer sciences....

Meanwhile I achieved to get the desired FTP access from my Linux home box to the Z:
1) Install pureFTP (http://www.pureftpd.org/) available from killefiz (http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/search.php?q=pureftp&x=0&y=0)
Now you need to start pure-ftpd as root. And it fails due to blocked (used) port or so. did not figure out completely.
2) Comment (!) the ftp lines in the /home/etc/inetd.conf and restart the inetd.
Works for me. User is zaurus and passphrase was zaurus, too.

Probable irritation for connection via USB or the sync (fails anyway :-((  )

Have FUN!

excellent - Opera 7.55 for the Zaurus!!

Unfortunately it does not work out yet.
Starting from busybox-commandline reveals several access rights problems and files not found or found for ja-version instead of en-version etc.etc. Disappointing.
C860 knows user zaurus and root. Even as root I can not change the access rights for the Opera-directories. Tells me it would be an read only filesystem (how did Opera-installer write then?). Setting some more Xes and Rs and Ws was not successful. I do something wrong?!

I need help setting the access rights and whatever. Presumably this was done before and there is already a HOWTO or so.

It would be much appreciated to get some hints where tips to find and how this can be solved.
Thanks a lot in advance!!!

Hallo,

I'd like to use Opera7 on my C860. I look for information how to install it.
The O6 ipk from "me.256k.net/..." does not work on my device.

Is there any HOWTO known or any working IPK's available for this SharpROM Zaurus 860?

Appreciate hints from U

Cxx0 General discussions / FTP - how does it work?

hallo,

there is an issue I'd like to ask you for help about.

FTP is always answered with failure. looks like this:

[home Linux box]# ftp zaurus
Connected to zaurus (192.168.37.99).
421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection
ftp>

If I telnet from win or Linux to my C860/SharpROM via WLAN it works fine (quotes are copypasted from the session with zaurus).

In /home/etc/inetd.conf I already told ftp to work and even lately released the "Without tcpd". In vain. Quote:
### With tcpd (TCP Wrapper) ###
#
ftp   stream   tcp   nowait   root   /usr/sbin/tcpd   in.ftpd -l -a
telnet   stream  tcp    nowait  root    /usr/sbin/tcpd   in.telnetd
### Without tcpd (TCP Wrapper) ###
ftp   stream   tcp   nowait   root   /usr/sbin/in.ftpd -l -a
#telnet   stream  tcp    nowait  root    /usr/sbin/in.telnetd

Since telnet and ping etc. work fine and even surfing with the Z by WLAN is fine I assume it's a config issue.

What may help?

/Dietmar
