C1000/3x00 General discussions / Installing Packages From Other Rom
« on: December 18, 2005, 04:43:24 am »
Hi,
My Zaurus C3000 has Sharp 1.11 ROM with mysql 3 from http://killefiz.de/zaurus/ and I want mysql 4.
I found several packages in the feeds of other ROM, for instance 4.0.16 or 4.1.10 from familiar or 4.1.7 from pdaxom. Unfortunately they won't install.

Are the binaries contained in packages from those feeds compatible with my ROM ?
If yes, how can I re-arrange the ipks to install them on my Zaurus ?

Thank you
Manu

[please forgive the repost, I chose the wrong forum yesterday]

Can you type any text in the edit-tab-page or can you open new edit-tab-pages with the new-menu-command and can you save any text file? What I want to know is: does Visiscript 'work as designed' expect the reading of text-files?
Maybe you can try to search for a text in files, so that there some find-results  shown in the output window, than try to double-click on a line like:

files /mnt/cf/text/test.txt; line 12: xyz...

the file should be opend in a new tab-page.

Another question: did the old Import-file-dialog in the old visiscript version 0.3.2 work for you?

I have some problems to reproduce your error, because I have only a Zaurus C860 with the original Zaurus-ROM and on my machine visiscript runs well...

Maybe we can find out whats going wrong with the newer Zaurus computers...

Thank you, Michael.

I get no new tab with the File, New menu.
With the menu Edit, Find in files it doesn't seem to work either. And the "..." button to choose a directory has no effect.

If you want me to test anything, just ask.

Hi,
My Zaurus is a C3000 with original Sharp system and a 64Mb swap.
When I run Visiscript  0.3.2, it complains about libqsfepj.so and libkke.so that cannot be shared (whereas /home/QtPalmtop/lib/libqsfepj.so exists) but it starts anyway : the process is running and takes 90% of the CPU. Eventually the Visiscript's window arrives 10 minutes later and the CPU falls down. But when I try to open a file it starts again : 90% CPU, 10 minutes...

Any idea ?

thanks
Manu

Hi,
maybe this subject is not actual any more, but with the new version 0.4.0 of [a href=\"http://www.mneuroth.de/privat/zaurus/visiscript.html]VisiScript[/url] this problem is (most probably) also not actual any more, because VisiScript uses now a new file-dialog. The latest version has a lot of new features and many bugfixes, check out here.

Michael.

Thank you Michael,
I Installed Visiscript 0.4. When started, it says "SlSharedManager: can't get proc entry" and still complains about the same libs as before, but now the programm runs immediately and doesn't eat all of the CPU. But it cannot open any file. The Open File Dialog lets me choose a file OK, but no file is loaded in the programm.
Can you help ?

Thanks
Manu

End of the crisis : reset to factory settings, restore of the backup and the Zaurus is back.
I don't know what happened, but I'm happy I could recover quite easily eventually.
I'll try X/Qt another day.

Bye !

Sure, after a reset everything is blank, clear, new, reset-ed.
You may try to save some data / applications with a simple
tar on a memory card.

Even for a Zaurus, the old mantra is valid: Backup early, backup often !

Ok I will reset tomorrow.
Fortunately I daily backup of all my data. I did a system backup (with the Sharp tool) a few months ago but I didn't mess in the system recently so I hope it will do.
Tomorrow I'll know if the Sharp backup and restore tool is efficient !

Manu,

can you access the flash menu ?
If yes, you could try a factory reset to japanese.

If not, can you access the diag menu ?

Can you boot to command line ?

Please give us some more information.

Hi Marc,
I managed to boot to command line (with D+.
The file "/var/lib/pcmcia/stab" exists and contains :
-----------------------------
Socket 0: empty
Socket 1: ATA/IDE Ficed Disk
            ide   ide_cs  0             hda       3       0
-----------------------------
I mounted /dev/hda1, /dev/hda2, /dev/hda3 and /dev/mmcda1 and save some files (includding /etc/*, /hdd3/Documents/Settings/* and my documents) just in case.
I thought about uninstalling X/Qt and Firefox but I didn't found ipkg anywhere.
What else can I do ?
If I factory reset to japanese, will I lose all the software installation and configuration I made so far ?

thanks for your help

Manu

Now it's worse.
I tried and remove the battery, wait for 10 seconds, press the reset button, put back the battery and lock the door.
When I press the "On" button, the screen just blink once, but the Zaurus doesn't start at all.
I promise I won't touch anything but now I'm in even bigger trouble

Hello Zaurus World,
My Zaurus 3000 has the original Sharp system.

I installed xqt-gtk-jumbopack_0.4.3-0.7_arm.zip from http://hplx.mine.nu/daniel/zaurus/xqt/ and firefox_0.9-2_arm.zip from http://www.chuckster.org/zaurus/, both with command line ipkg install xxx.ipk and both installs said ok.

Then I rebooted the Zaurus. I wish I hadn't because now I'm stuck in the white screen with 'SHARP' in red and something in japanese.
The bottom line is blinking whith a line that repeats itself fast. It reads something like
grep : /var/lib/pcmcia/stab: No such file or directory
I'm not sure exactly because it's very fast and so it's very hard to read.

I'm not sure either if the problem is caused by X/Qt at all because I hadnt rebooted my Zaurus for a while, but I didn't mess with the system recently (I just remapped some keys with keyhelper).

I desperately need assistance.
Can you help me in rebooting the Zaurus again ?

Thanks
Manu

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Scrolling In Terminal ?

use SHIFT + UP ARROW

it sometimes does not work (when /dev/shm is full for instance) but it's the way to do what you want.
Thank you

By chance I found that you can scroll the screen with the stylus.
But in both cases it dosen't work if /dev/shm is full.
I rebooted the Zaurus to empty it, but maybe there is another way ?

Hi,
In Terminal, is there a way to scroll the screen in order to see all the previous lines, for instance after a "ls -l" with a lot of files ?
Or maybe there is a better terminal somewhere ?

Thanks

Finally I put /hdd3/Documents/htdocs as DocumentRoot in httpd.conf with ZEditor and it works OK.

# ls -l /home/www/conf/httpd.conf
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 43401 Jan 1 2001 httpd.conf
(it was originally -rw-r--r-- but I changed to 777)

# vi httpd.conf
"http.conf" is busy[More]
vi opens an empty file and the satus line says :
garbage() failed to read oldhdr??
(the same after apachectl stop)

with ZEditor, httpd.conf opens normally and when I try to save the file, I get the error message :
outfile.open(IO_WriteOnly) : Please incestigate the file...)
even with if saving as another file (as if /home/www/conf was write protected).
I finally saved the httpd.conf in another place and copied httpd.conf to the regular place but I still got error 403.

Hi,
I installed this Apache+PHP package : http://www.choup.net/linux/pda/old/apache-...0.5_0.1_arm.ipk and it works well.

The document root is /home/www/htdocs but this place doesn't have lots of disk space, so I tried to use /home/zaurus/Documents/htdocs with a symbolinc link : ln -s /home/zaurus/Documents/htdocs /home/www/htdocs/www but when I go to http://127.0.0.1/www/index.html, NetFront tells Error 403 (forbidden) (Yes, I have an index.html in /home/zaurus/Documents/htdocs)
I tried to modify DocumentRoot in /home/www/conf/httpd.conf but vi would not even open httpd.conf (and ZEditor would not save the modified file).

Can you help me ?

Thanks
