Sharp ROMs / Wireless flaky as hell on Cacko?
« on: December 14, 2004, 04:19:23 pm »
I'm beginning to think that we are using different Zauruses. I have an SL-5000D. As far as I can tell there is no 1.21 Cacko ROM for it. Am I right or not?

Actually I think I may have figured out something.

I was looking at another forum and I see that someone with an SL-5500 had to create a hostapp file. Here's his entry:

>I made my own hostap_cs.conf entry:
>
>card "Senao NL-2511CF"
>version "WLAN"
>manfid 0x000b, 0x7100
>bind "hostap_cs"

Here's the entry of another person on the same forum:

>Well creating the entry in the hostap_cs.conf file didn´t work for me but adding it into the wlan-ng-opts.conf file did (you have to add also the main entry for the hostap_cs to be able to bind it).
>
>you just have to add this entry in the hostap_cs.conf but for example my rom searches for wlan-ng-opts.conf as default so i would also make a copy of the hostap_cs.conf and rename it as wlan-ng-opts.conf
>
>card "Senao NL-2511CF"
>version "WLAN"
>manfid 0x000b, 0x7100
>bind "hostap_cs"

So, my question now would be, how do I need to edit my wlan-gn-opts.conf file?

Something like:

card "Netgear M701"
version "WLAN"
manfid ????
bind "hostap_cs"

I was wondering whether you ever got your Netgear CF to work. I am using SL-5000 with the Cacko ROM. It seems you have installed some additional packages. Is that necessary? And which in particular will I need.

Any and all information is appreciated.

Turns out it was a firewall issue.

Sorry.

I have a Netgear MA701. But I am having problems getting it to work.

cardctl indent produces:

Socket 0:
product info: "NETGEAR", "MA701 Wireless CF Card", ""
manfid: 0xd601, 0x002
function: 6 (network)

Sharp ROMs / Netgear Wireless Cf W/sl5000
« on: December 03, 2004, 02:53:56 pm »
I have a Zaurus SL5000D w/Cacko ROM.

I just got a Netgear Wireless CF card.
Most every time I insert the card nothing happens. Sometimes it shows up as a CF card. But, sometimes (rarely) it will show up as a Wireless card. However, generally, I have a small window of time to try to connect to a wireless router. Only on 1 occasion was I actually able to initiate the connection procedure, which failed.

Now I'm beginning to think there is something wrong with teh CF card, but perhaps the problem is with how I'm trying to connect, with SL5000's, or perhaps there is some package I should have installed?

Any and all input is appreciated.

Sharp ROMs / A Browser For Sl5000
« on: November 30, 2004, 04:11:47 pm »
Anybody know where I can get a browser (Opera?) for the Cacko ROM?
Opera was stripped out, and I can't find anything on the net.
Oh, and I don't want lynx.

I am using a SL5000 w/Cacko Sharp ROM.

Can I get qtrdesktop to work on this?
I've installed it as well as the SSL package from the site, but it doesn't do anything no matter what I try.

I am using a SL5000 w/Cacko Sharp ROM.

I just installed gtrdesktop w/the other files available from the site. After installing the last package, my Zaurus complained about the lack of memory, so I had to shut it down.  On the reboot, however, it just hangs on the Zaurus metallic screen. What can I do to get it to boot? There should be a way to enter at a lower run level, perhaps maybe free up some space (if that's the problem) and then boot.  I don't want to have to do anything that will delete any files I have on the Zaurus.

Security and Networking / Recommended Wireless Cf

I have found a Linksys 802.11b Wireless Compact Flash, WCF12 for about $70. It's the cheapest I've been able to find and am wondering whether anyone thought I should not buy this Linksys, or whether there is another one comparably priced that I should consider.

BTW, I am using a SL5000 w/Cacko Sharp ROM.

Oh, one other question. Where can I get a web browser for this? I can't seem to find any out there.
