OpenBSD / Openbsd On Whole Disk Sl-c3000

This thread should be a sticky - it's really very useful.  I find myself referring to it with every release.

OpenBSD / Netbsd Ported To Zaurus
« on: November 28, 2006, 11:19:41 am »
I wonder how long before there is a real reason to try it out? Like... better support for something? I don't see why the devs wouldn't want to just work on the openbsd zaurus tree since it's already working... but hey I'm not a dev so I will just be grateful some hacker out there is making it possible for me to use my zaurus in many ways

Well in a pinch you can always use a usb card reader, right? of course that's not quite the same but it's better than nothing.

OpenBSD / Upgrading Your Openbsd Zaurus

ok, so to upgrade to the current snapshot what procedures must I follow? what files must be replaced? Do I just replace the  zboot and zbsdmod.o from emergency linux and then follow the normal installation process except selecting upgrade instead of install? How do I determine if I am running the lastest and greatest snapshot? uname -v ?

Thanks

It's the same procedure as upgrading a normal openbsd system, with the addition of the steps required if you followed andy's (great) whole disk doc. When I download snaps I usually keep them in a directory named after the date (JULY27-SNAPSHOT, for example) so that when I hit the ftp site and see a snapshot with a new date I know how old mine is. Keep in mind that it's not always a good idea to be on the bleeding edge - there's bleeding involved

OpenBSD / Suspend Crashes

Yes, I see that, too.  Apm almost always tells me it's 100% charge.  I've had the Zaurus  off the charger for as long as an hour and apm tells me it's 90%  I guess I get kickin' battery life.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=128436\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

right...except that it will take an hour go from from 100% to 90% and then 10 minutes to go from 75% to 0%

OpenBSD / Suspend Crashes

now in regards to a full charge... there's an orange led when the unit is charging, which is normal... my powerbook does the same. orange for charging, green for charged. there are times that apm will report the unit as 100% charged, but the light remains on. In fact, if I listened to apm's stats I'd probably never have a fully charged zaurus because it will report 100% charged after an hour or so when the light will actually remain orange for much longer - never timed it but 3-5 hours?

is this just my z or is it across the board?

I have only had the problem with suspending where it doesn't resume once. There is a seperate suspend issue where it won't resume after being charged if it has gone into a 'panic suspend' state due to low battery which may be resolved by resuming the unit a couple of times after plugging in the charger though.

The error that you receive is normal on the Zaurus and it just reflects that OpenBSD is writing the unflushed data that it needed to write but that was interrupted by the suspend sequence.

I've also had the "panic suspend" issue on my 3000 where even after a charging the z wont turn on. eventually it did turn on after removing the battery, plugging/unplugging the power. I wish the z didn't lose charge so fast. I try to keep it plugged in when possible but it seems wrong that it would lose it's charge after a day of not being plugged in.

OpenBSD / Issue In Usb To Ethernet(pegasus.c)

Hi ,

I am trying to use USB-Ethernet Converter in my Custom board in Montavista Linux. The USB memory stick as well as Ethernet are working fine in my board. But while using USB - Ethernet Converter it is getting detected but neither ping nor tftp are working.

wrong forum friend, this is the OpenBSD forum.

I have noticed that very occasionally the USB host port doesn't recognise devices after a boot that should be recognised 'automagically' unless you made a special kernel with all the USB stuff disabled.
well i had rebooted three times and i had no luck with USB so i was feeling i had forgotten to activate something. After your message i've rebooted once again and mouse is working automatically and usb card reader is detected

maybe there is something i've done that makes usb 'not discovered', i'll try and check on next reboots

thank you Andy.

same sort of stuff happens with my axe card. when I reboot sometimes the nic isn't detected. hopefully fixed by 4.0

OpenBSD / A Couple Of Irritating Problems
« on: April 11, 2006, 09:39:24 am »
I think APM is a liar. On the way to work I was working on my zsh prompt and my apm status said 50%, 90 mins remaining. Then the z went to sleep. I turned it back on and it went to sleep again. Obviously it didn't have 90mins remaining. Now I'm here at work, I plug in my z and after 2 minutes it says 100%! Yet the orange charging light is still on. I know that it must still be charging, even my cell phone takes at least a few hours to get fully charged. Why is apm lying to me?

OpenBSD / The Keyboard... What's Goin On?
« on: April 05, 2006, 04:56:14 pm »
The more I use the zaurus the more I get annoyed at the keymap. I can handle , and / being the same key, that's no big deal. But " and & and ^ are all in the wrong place. Drives me nuts! I'm currently in the process of hookin up my various rc files to help make life on the z console less frustrating. So far I have been making good use of the meta key (which is the key to the right of Ctrl ). It's so much easier to scroll in vim with Meta U than CTRL D, and a lot easier to access Meta 0 than CTRL W to get to vim's window features.

Has anyone (I guess that means you andy ) gotten anything useful out of the calendar/address/mail/etc buttons ? Looks like they send ^[  (esc) and some key sequence. Calendar is mapped to ^[[11~ for example. It would be nice to run cal with calendar and mutt with mail, etc. maybe remap the Home button to cd?

(EDIT-- Hahaha thinking about it on the way home it was actually easier than I thought to remap those keys. Simple bindkey -s . Now the hard part is figuring out whether I want to keep the calendar button as just cal, or maybe use calendar to print something from calendar.discord or..... oh the possibilities! haha)

While I'm on the subject, whats up with the button between Meta and - ?  (the button directly above the Mail button). Seems like a waste of a perfectly good button to me!

Of course most of my real zaurus work is done from Terminal.app anyway... but I can't stop striving for the perfect all around experience.
