6000 - Tosa / Keyboards?
« on: February 03, 2005, 08:02:31 pm »
I was looking for a keyboard that I could attach to my 6000.
I wanted a regular sized one that I could use at home when
I needed to do some serious typing on my 6000. I saw this
"multimedia" keyboard by iconcepts at Rite-Aid. It was free
(actually $6 with a $6 rebate) so I figured I had nothing to
lose.

I did have to spend some money to get a PS2 to USB converter
but it was fairly cheap.

The keyboard works pretty good, all [a-z][A-Z] work fine. Ctrl
characters and escape works fine as does the backspace key.
Of the 32 special characters only 12 work on face value, while
20 can be generated by hitting other keys. There are 6 characters
I cannot generate at present: [, {, (, _, \ and |

In HancomMobileSheet, the arrow keys work fine, and so do page up,
page down, and home. The tab key works funny. It hops to the right
side of the page.

I started to try out the function keys, but F1 acted as a toggle to
turn off and on the back light, so I stopped with that not wanting
to get into anything crazy at this point.

The keyboard is kind of interesting. It was designed to work with
windows 95/98 and 2000. It has a slew of extra buttons on the
top to do things like put system to sleep, wake system up, control
CD player, etc. Might be interesting to explore.

6000 - Tosa / Kismet on the 6000
« on: January 19, 2005, 05:29:49 pm »
I have not tried kismet yet, but intend to shortly.

Some people have complained that, over time, kismet
will cause the 6000 to freeze. I saw a note saying
one should run "kismet -n" to prevent large log files.
I wonder if it is the case that those people who had
thier 6000 freeze did not do this, and thus the log
file got too big, causing the 6000 to freeze.
If the log file is created in the flash memory area
this seems like this could be the problem.

just a thought

6000 - Tosa / 56k Modem Problem
« on: January 13, 2005, 01:28:45 pm »
The problem is solved. It was all my fault.

When I go to the "network" icon to pull up networking.
You can choose lan, modem, wireless
when I choose modem, my two entries show up.
At this point, I thought the idea was to highlight the entry you want
to connect to, and then press the "connect" button.

However!!!! The problem is, that I set my wireless to "autoconnect"
thus, when I hit the "connect" button, it automatically tried to
connect via wireless.

Once I took off "autoconnect" it works! Now when I hit "connect"
it will ask me how (modem, wireless, etc.) and then bring up the
various modem entries I have.

Thanks for all your help. Even though none of your ideas pointed
to my own stupidity, they did widen my knowledge on other aspects
of the Zaurus and will help me in the future.

6000 - Tosa / 56k Modem Problem
« on: January 11, 2005, 09:19:57 pm »
Hi,

Love the zaurus, everything seems to work except this simple
56K modem CF card.

I bought a Pretec "Pocket PC" 56K modem CF card.
I had read that it should work on the Zaurus.

I popped it in, card was recognized, went to the network
icon, configured a dial-up connection using the wizard to
connect to my ISP.

Tried a connect, and got the message connection failed.

I was unsure of any diagnostics I could use, so since I have
two phone lines in my house, I decided to see if I could call
the other line.

So I configured another dial-up connection with my other
home number in it and tried to do a connect.

Again it failed, but my phone did not ring!!!!

I have tried various scenarios, but nothing works.

One thing I did notice, is when I went to system info
and clicked on devices. It showed all the information
about my card, but it also said [suspended]
I am not sure what this means.

Anybody out there have any advice/suggestions/tips???

Thanks

6000 - Tosa / Who has a 6000?
« on: January 11, 2005, 08:38:16 pm »
I have had mine for about 2 weeks. Love it!

I never thought I would ever own a PDA, but this one
seemed to have everything I need.

I am looking forward to trying different linux versions on this device.

Everything seems to work fine, except that I can't seem to get
the 56k modem CF card to work! This seems a bit strange since
it is probably the simplest device there. Hopefully, someone in
this group can help me out.

6000 - Tosa / USB HD attached to Z!
« on: January 10, 2005, 09:47:38 pm »
I tried to attach my Lexar 256 MB Jump Drive to my 6000.
I am using the Goldx QuickConnect USB Cable. When I check
system info devices, it shows that it recognizes the jumpdirve.
However, I can seem to find a way to "cd" to the jump drive.
Do I need to actually "mount" it?

Thanks
