C1000/3x00 General discussions / Rts On The Z !

<some stuff snipped>
The available work area is becoming very low. Please select an application to terminate and tap OK button.

Any idea what to do next?

One of the quickest ways to reduce the memory consumed on your Z is to remove fastload from certain applications.  For example, by default the Sharp DTM apps (Address Book, Calendar, Todo list, etc.) come with 'Fast load' on by default.  To turn it off, hold down the icon with your stylus, and uncheck the 'Fast load' check box on the Details page that should pop up after holding the icon.  Do this for each app you don't want to preload.

Fast load enables the application to start up quicker if you use them regularly.  I use the K*/Pi utilities so don't need the default Sharp apps to fast load.

Hope this helps!

I can recommend Streamline.  Very responsive, very helpful.

Actually, I'm using the bvdd version from the Cacko feed and the keys work just fine.  It's possible that I briefly had Cresho's SDL package installed on Cacko but if so then I uninstalled it before installing the bvdd version.  (I don't remember if I did to be honest.)  My keys work fine, and the emulator runs noticeable smoother than it did before I installed Cacko and the bvdd SDL.  I'm using a C1000.

I'm on a C1000, too.  To be specific, you are saying the keys in the SNES emulator are fine?  I just wiped out the entire environment (emulators, front-end, libraries, etc.), and installed them all over again via the updated cacko feed, including the bvdd sdl.  The SNES emulator runs, but the direction keys are still off.  For example, in Ultima 7 the direction keys appear to be rotated once clockwise:
Down moves Left
Left moves Up
Up moves Right
Right moves Down

very strange.  I'm going to check out the mod. Cresho mentioned in post 45 and see what happens.

Anyone tried to run this with Cacko rom? Could you please tell what libraries/settings you used to get the controls work correctly?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=102849\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I used the libsdl_1.2.5-slzaurus20050410 that is in the old Cacko feed originally, and it worked fine.  I'd like to use the new BVDD optimized version Maslovsky posted in the new Cacko feed, but as you've pointed out, the keybindings are reversed in the SNES emulator.

Thanks for your comments.

So by the looks of it, the following are not present:

Calculator
City Time
Clock
eDict

No big loss, then.

Is Java on it?

And the usual Settings programs?

What about qKonsole or some other terminal program?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=101919\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

'yes' means it is in the ROM:

Calculator - Yes
City Time - Yes
Clock - Yes
eDict - In the feed
Java - Jeode and Personal Productivity for Zaurus are in the feed
qKonsole - Yes
Settings programs - yes

Note: based on my installation of Cacko 1.23 full.

I can barely restrain myself from reflashing my 3100 and "doing the cacko" (sounds sweeeet) but the thought of losing my Japanese dictionary is a little painful..  For someone who knows close to zero (of course not me...) how can they keep it?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=101650\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I believe the Japanese dictionary is in the Cacko feed.  So, after you've installed the ROM, run the package manager, install from network, and select the Cacko feed for your package repository.  Search that for the dictionary.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

For the 1K, do we truly need to resize FLASH to 32K?  If so, why?  What are the ramifications?

Wireless Mail is a third-party add-on for Notes that I use to forward incoming Notes email to your separate POP account, which you can download and work with offline using various email programs on the Z. If you bcc everything you send to the same POP account, you'll have everything offline.

Good luck.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=100248\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Notes Mail isn't too difficult to handle, either via forwarding to a pop account, or if your Domino server offers POP or IMAP (both of which are options in Domino).  However, the Notes calendaring&scheduling is another matter entirely.  I posted a while back about it, but haven't come up with any viable options to sync a Notes calendar with Ko/Pi (or any other Z pim for that matter).  Notes does not have an option to export to iCal (which would probably be the simplest solution), and I haven't gotten anywhere yet trying to update NotesSync (still something I'm considering, if I can ever carve out time).

If anyone has other ideas, let's hear 'em.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Nand Flash Restore Error
« on: August 15, 2005, 10:53:31 am »
Latest update:  I was able to boot to the service menu after disconnecting everything, letting it sit for a bit, then putting the battery back in.  I downloaded the NAND image from the TriSoft website, and it allowed me to restore that one.  Not sure why it didn't like the image I created directly from my machine, but hey, it worked.

I restored a backup from a recent backup file I took, and am back in business on the Sharp ROM.  I still need to install Tetsu's kernel, etc, but it is working at least.

I'll be sticking with this for a little bit before trying another image.  Thanks for the help, Marc!!

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Nand Flash Restore Error
« on: August 13, 2005, 11:05:14 am »
Update:

No love.  After stying on the AC for almost 24 hours, it still will not boot.  AC doesn't give me the yellow 'charging' light, on/off doesn't do anything.  Taking the battery out, hitting reset, nothing.

What the heck happened...all I did was try to do a NAND restore, then did a test of the NAND.

I'm thinking I need to send it back to Streamline for investigation.  Crap.

Shane,

the solution is simple: Try another CF or SD card.
The Zaurus is very fussy if it comes to NAND-Restore.
Even cards that work without problems in the Zaurus
may not work for a NAND-Restore.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the tip...I was going to try it this morning, but when I tried to power up my Akita, it appears to be dead.  I plugged in the AC, removed the battery for a bit, hit the reset, everything.  Nothing is happening, and it doesn't appear to be charging.  I'm going to let it sit on the AC for a bit to see if it gets some life back.  This happened once before  about a month after I bought it.  I had to leave it plugged in overnight and it was able to boot the next morning.  I'm wondering if something caused the battery to drain completely down.

By the way, don't you ever sleep?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Nand Flash Restore Error
« on: August 11, 2005, 04:28:40 pm »
Update:  No errors reported from the flash test, and my CF card is formatted for FAT (not FAT32).

I'm out of ideas...I don't suppose I should try to erase my flash...?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Nand Flash Restore Error
« on: August 11, 2005, 04:06:47 pm »
I have an Akita (C1000).  I did a NAND backup of my SHARP ROM to a CF, and then reflashed to install pdaXrom.  I played with pdaXrom for a while, but now want to reflash back to my SHARP image.  The restore recognizes my backup file, but after a few seconds of trying to restore, it reports that there is a format error.

What are my options?  Is this a problem with the image, or my NAND?  Is it due to something pdaXrom does with the flash memory?  Is there a particular method for reflashing after installing a different image (pdaXrom)?

I'm currently running a 'Zaurus Test' on my NAND, and will see what that reports.

What else can I do?  I saw on one of the other forums where someone reformatted the CF card and copied the backup file back onto it.  I'm thinking I may try that next.

Thanks for any tips.

I was able to update to the 18a kernel just fine, however, it appears Tetsu's kernel modules are no longer where he has them linked.  I get
/zaurus/kernel/v14e/kernel-modules_v18_arm.ipk was not found on this server

Anyone have a copy of it to share?
