i m thinking about getting one of those, since i use my Z to listen to podcast alot, it would be so much easier to have a remote, but i can't seem to find any, a guy offered one for 70 bucks, is that fair? or anyone know where i can get one for cheaper?

Conics.net offers a brand new one for 69 bucks.  I bought mine from them when they first came out and still use it daily.

I know the rh-2 is expensive but I definately think that its worth it if you listen to music.  As far as I know you are going to have to bite the bullet on the price.  The rh-2 is relatively hard to find, even in Japan.  I have been living in Japan for 5 weeks and have only seen the rh-2 in a display window once, I think it was 6300 yen (~$57).

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.23 With Full Japanese Language Support

Ok reflashed to the sharp rom and now I'm back in cacko with some usefull things.

First of all, for any c3100 users out there who are doing this the "japanese-support-c3100_1.23_arm.ipk" is somewhat broken.  For some reason after it is installed qtopia will crash.  Thanks to meanie I learned that it is something to do with libCRIM that it installs.  I fixed it by deleting those libCRIM files that the support package installs and replacing them with the libCRIM files from my japanese sharp rom.  libCRIM is located in
/opt/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/

I attached libCRIM.tar so you c3100 users can just untar the libs and copy them to the above location.  "tar -xvf libCRIM.tar" should do it.

Second, the input method icons seem to be missing.  I don't know if this is a c3100 cacko problem or a universal one.  Anyway just untar the input_icons.tar package and copy the png files into /opt/QtPalmtop/pics144/ and then you have them.

Hi xamindar, thanks for your guide.
I am having a little trouble setting up the Japanese fonts on my c3100.  First I installed the two japanese support packages.  Next (without rebooting) I replaced the old libCRIM files with the libCRIM files in the attatched .tar.  After I reboot I am able to change the language input icon at the bottom of the screen to hiragana but cannot input japanese characters.  Am I missing something obvious here?  Any help would be welcomed.

Thanks,
Allen

When I went to LaOX I compared the UX50 to my c3000.  In terms of width, the zaurus and the UX50 are about the same.  The UX is about half an inch to an inch longer than the c3000.  I know that there have been reports of the UX not being very pocketable but I think that if you have been pocketing your zaurus the UX should be no problem.  I wouldn't feel comfortable sticking a UX in my pocket though because the screen is facing outwards =p.  As for the heat.  Although I didn't play with the unit for very long it was not hot at all.

I am actually thinking of picking one of these things up tomorrow...maybe.  They are actually quite reasonable if you are in Tokyo for vacation =).  (159000 yen-tax)/114 (yen/dollar).

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Can I Use Sl750's Battery On Sl1000?

You do know that amazon still stocks the bl08 for $25 with free shipping right?  Right now its out of stock but shipments do come in every once in a while.

JAmerican, it sounds like you need a laptop more than a zaurus.  I am a fourth year chemistry student and I think that my laptop provides me a lot more flexibility than my zaurus does.  The zaurus is nice because it is small and can fit in my pocket however, there is no way that I can review my notes or type papers with the same ease as my laptop.  If you are going to get a zaurus just keep in mind that there are less places where you can "set up base."  Also, the UX50 is still a great pda.

Hi JAmerican,

I am also a past ux50 user who switched to the zaurus without any knowledge of linux.  The two devices are certainly different beasts!  It took me a while to learn the ropes but in the end I think it was worth it.  (Still miss the camera and wifi though.)

Anywho, as for the lag, the zaurus is significantly slower at loading apps and switching processes than the clie.  You will get used to this eventually.  If you want to make applications boot up quicker hold down the icon of the app and click the fast load.  For the hand com spell check I am not sure if there is any.  With the zaurus you can run full desktop word processors that definately have spell check however.

The best places for information are meanies site and this forum.

Lastly, some things that I would probably look in to are: cacko rom, tetsus kernel upgrade, opera net browser, meanies cram packages, mplayer, and ka/pi pim just to name a few.  Also if you want to use your zaurus for music, the rh2 remote is a must!

aight lates,

Allen

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Cacko 1.23 (nonbeta) For The C3000

Are there any actual reasons to wish for a "final" version for the c3000?
I am using che cacko beta for the c3000 for a long while now.
Is there a major difference? any new libraries that should be updated manually? a new kernel?

Otherwise it seems I (and the rest of the c3000 owners) will have to stick to the cacko beta version forever.

I can think of 2 things off hand.  1) Japanese support.  2) Support for symbol wifi card.

Hey Terry thanks for the quick response.  I have a couple of questions.  Can I just run the 1.11 updater? Or do I need a fresh install of the original rom?

Thx

Hi, this may have been covered before but... "How do you revert back to the sharp rom from cacko 3kb1 on the c3000."  I was crazy and I did not make a back up before flashing cacko.  Can a simple NAND restore ie. from the conics website, bring back the sharp rom?  Also, will I have to reinstall tetsu's kernel?

I would really like to keep cacko, but I am going back to Japan soon and need to install some Japanese language progams.  If only there was a way to install japanese fonts in to 3kb1 =).

Thx in advance for the help

Hey scheck, thanks for the response.  I think this might be beyond my capabilities =).  I tried following meanie's instructions and deleted what I thought were the file associations to image viewer, etc.  But it didn't work.  This is not surprising to me however, because I am still learning the linux system and probably missed something obvious.  I'll probably go back at this sometime next week.

Thanks, Allen

Hi everyone,

I have a c3000 running the cacko 3k beta (great job btw,) and was wondering if there was a way that I could tell the zaurus to open .png files using opera instead of image viewer.  Using tree explorer I can do this manually, but I want to change the preferences so that it does this automatically.  Is this possible?

Thanks, Allen
