For Sale / Wanted / Selling My Sl6000l
« on: October 11, 2005, 05:34:53 pm »
Hi

After not having used my sl6000 for some months time now, I choose to sell it... (Hopefully one day we will see Linux PDA's with - ahem - more "mature" OS'es...)
It comes with the following:

Leather carrying case
32 mb CF flash card
hard acryl plastic screen cover
another screen cover (a film that sticks to the screen)
Charger
cradle

Its in a very nice condition. No scrathes or things like that.

I tried to sell it via Ebay, but I couldn't sign up for a sellers account (apparently because I'm from Denmark...)

Please bid (and ask) in this forum - I will check for questions as often as possible.

payment goes via Paypal and I will not ship until I register the transaction.

Kind Regards

Guylhem Rom / Cf Card Reading
« on: June 10, 2005, 02:19:04 am »
My Guylhem doesn't seem to recognize my CF card. It thinks that it does, though, but it suggests that it contain some stuff ("Image_Files", "Install_Files", "Text_Files" and a file named "home-zaurus-documents) other than what it really contains. My winXP reads the content as a couple of *.IPK files, and that is what I actually placed there.
Should one format the card in ext2 or other linux-format before Guylhem ROM can read it?

Guylhem Rom / Guylhem First Impressions
« on: June 09, 2005, 04:27:45 pm »
Guylhem seems quite cool! I like it way better than OZ. I'm looking forward to future releases. Especially cool that it has Opera and a JVM from the start. Just what I needed
NB. It doesn't seem one can use SD cards for ROM flashing.
A possible bug: I have the SHARP software installed on my pc. When I plug my Zaurus into the cradle (connected to the PC), it shows the "Please wait 30 seconds crocodile" and then never escapes that state. I had to reset.

Guylhem Rom / Guylhem Installation Questions
« on: May 31, 2005, 12:50:03 pm »
The install-readme http://externe.net/zaurus/guylhem-rom/README says to use a CF card. Can one use a SD card instead? My CF card is only 32 mb...

I see the image-file is at 66 mb. How can this ever fit into the internal flash ram at 64 mb?

Software / Ibm Jikes Java Compiler For Zaurus
« on: May 29, 2005, 08:10:53 am »

It contains classes.zip, but that is not the version you would want to use because it is not compatible with the Zaurus. Your best bet would be to get blackdown linux 1.3 for the Zaurus and get its classes.zip

The only blackdown JDK for Zaurus I could find was a "blackdown-jdk_1.3.1_arm.ipk" from "Chris Double's Radio Weblog"
Is this the file that should contain the classes.zip? If so, how do I extract it? I have tried installing it on my sl-6000l with original SHARP ROM. It failed. Can it be extracted without installing it in the first place?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Dual boot setup

... Install modrom-dualboot.ipk.

... Then, install oz2sd.ipk.

Where do we get theese files from?

Do you think your dual boot method would work on a sl-6000l?
Do you think it would work with the Guylhem ROM as the second OS?

Software / Ibm Jikes Java Compiler For Zaurus
« on: May 28, 2005, 06:32:28 am »
I went to the Zaurus software index to find a java development tool for my sl-6000 with Original SHARP ROM and Jeode JVM.

I found the IBM Jikes" java-compiler, and a foggy explanation about what was needed for Jikes to run. It says:

"...Also need JDK classes.zip"

I went to java.sun.com to download the current version of their JDK (5.0). Their Linux download was a 111 Mb *.bin file. (jdk-1_5_0_03-nb-4_1-linux.bin, 111.60 MB). Is this file supposed to contain the classes.zip file? As I do not have a desktop linux box currently, I cannot install the package to find out (and to me it sounds weird with *.zip-files in a linux-application).
If this is the correct way to find the classes.zip, could I then have someone with this JDK installed mail me the classes.zip, or upload it on the net or something like that?

By the way, can anyone recommend other good java compilers/IDE's for JAVA programming on the SL-6000l? (the "EIDE" for sl-5500 didn't work..)
I have (with no luck) tried to install a jeode ipk on OZ with GPE. That's one of the reasons why I went back to the old SHARP ROM. I'm willing to change ROM again, if well proven solutions for other ROM's exists.

Thanks for any help

try all the roms available and see what you like

         guylhem rom
         Qtopia 2.1
          pdaXrom
in no particular order.

I'll do so - I'm glad the weekend is so near

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Faults Or Features?
« on: May 26, 2005, 09:04:09 am »
Suk..

It seems to mee that both Opie and GPE are like alpha-releases. GPE is very buggy too. Crashes and does unexpected things. Now it won't boot (after login, it shows a 240x140 pixel white field on the center of the screen, and thats it), and all I did was trying out some handwriting... On my former GPE-installation (that is, 30 minutes ago), it wouldn't let me log in after a reboot (not because of wrong password - it just wouldn't startup X). Arrgh!!!!

This is hopeless

By the way - are the upper 7 hardbuttons supposed to work out of the box with GPE? I hope not...

It seems GPE works okay, so I think I will stick with that.

I thank you all for your help - it was very kindfull of you.

When you flash an OZ image (or one of the sharpclones) it will erase / .[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=81415\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

That's very bad news. As my reflashing (and thus total eraze) of the / didn't help anything, it seems that I am stuck with the weird behavior of OZ+Opie that I experience.
I do wonder how it can be that my clean install is buggy, in opposition to what seems to be the case for all other people having a clean OZ
I simply cannot understand that.

I guess I will have to try another ROM image - I could go try the GPE GUI. (though it has fewer compatible apps, as far as I know..)

hda1 is your cf card, fdisk can't handle mtd devices (the internal flash). Do a 'cat /proc/mtd' to see what partitions are available.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=81399\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thanks for the tip
This command yields the following output:

dev:         size:                 erasesize:        name:
mtd0:       006a0000        00020000       "Filesystem"
mtd1:       00700000        00004000       "smf"
mtd2:       01c00000        00004000       "root"
mtd3:       01d00000        00004000       "home"

Is this as it should be? Anything unnormal?

And now for the exiting part:

If it's not as it should be: How do I delete all partitions and create 2 new ones? ( a 32 mb /   and a 32 mb /home  )

If it is as it should be: How do I delete the content of /   and /home so I can do a truly clean reinstall?

I am very thankfull for your willingness to help me with this
