Nope. Not even close. I'm using Cox cable as my local ISP. I actually have no friggin' idea where my website is hosted (I suppose I should look it up), but I know it's at least 15 hops across 3 or 4 nets to get to it. Definitely not the same ISP though. FWIW, I also did a speed test from my work machine on a totally different net and also had success...

I just downloaded the openoffice file to test my connectivity and averaged over 150kb/s speed. I didn't think that was too bad...

Perhaps if you are using the same ISP to connect to the internet, as the one that hosts your file, you'll achieve a faster and more consistent download rate than someone outside that system?

I remember having major issues downloading from your site, I'm afraid. Am glad the files are there though, much appreciated.

I've replaced the link to that file on my site. The file was still there, but I had removed the link thinking that Meanie's updated file: xqt-debian-scripts_0.5_arm.zip had replaced it. Anyway, both files are there now. Hopefully Meanie can clarify whether both are needed.

No need to apologize about the site. I find it interesting though. I just downloaded the openoffice file to test my connectivity and averaged over 150kb/s speed. I didn't think that was too bad...

yeah i spent like 4 hours trying to find the link for this file xqt-debian-install.zip

chuksters site needs it badly and also, his downloads speed and continuity is terrible..

sorry chuckster

that debian install file was either lost from my view or i was too pissed trying to find it.

meanie, let chuckster know that his file is missing.

Who runs zaurusrgroup.org? offroadgeek maybe? Anyway he has my sympathy. Looking forward to him getting his site back as I usually use it as a portal to here too.

When you use phpnuke it's really just a matter of time before you get broken into.
Hopefully it's be the last straw towards using a better CMS

but why ?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=89648\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Because they have nothing better to do?

I could think of a few other reasons why, but in the interest of keeping it clean, I'll resist the temptation...

I got the same message too. It sure would be nice if the installer would tell you what those dependencies were, right?

I don't know if this is one of the dependencies for X/Qt jumbo, but one that I found for the Debian/Pocketworkstation install which I didn't have was the sudo package.

Quote
At least you have it working.

I got the error message “This package seems to depend on other packages. Please install them too.”

Did you install anything else apart from the X/Qt jumbo package, I wonder?

This is great, Meanie!

Also, thanks to Chuckster for hosting the files!

However, first time I downloaded the 'debian-jumbo-v18-b01' file it was 149MB in size. Then redownloaded it and it is 166MB in size. Did the check on the file and got some error messages..

Would be great to know how large the downloaded file should be?

Thanks,

Mark
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=89028\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

The page does have the sizes of the packages (just to the right of the download link.) Here they are for reference:

xqt-gtk-jumbopack_0.4.3-0.6_arm.zip 14.8Mb
xqt-debian-install.zip 2.2K
zaurus-debian-doc-v18.tar.gz 13.1Mb
zaurus-debian-jumbo-v18-b01.tar.gz 94.5Mb
zaurus-debian-openoffice114.tar.gz 77.7Mb
firefox_0.9-2_arm.zip 7.1Mb

It sounds like your browser was trying to uncompress the file as it downloaded since you got more than 94.5Mb.  You might try using "wget" (either from Linux or the Cygwin version for Windows) to download the files. I've had more success in the past downloading large files with it than using a browser...

I think I'll try to add MD5 sums to the page so everyone can check the files that way...

Yep. I uploaded the additional files this morning.

I see that some people are having some transfer issues. I'm not sure if it's related to the site or something else. FWIW, I just downloaded the 13Mb doc file no problem (< 5 min) from here at work.

I guess my PM didn't make it to you, but I can host the files, if you want. Not sure if the PM thing works, but try to PM me anyway and we can hopefully work out the details....

Well, the testing phase has come to a successful completion, which means the jumbo packages are now ready to be released as soon as I can move them to a home with lots of bandwidth.

X/Qt jumbo pack:

- xqt-gtk-jumbopack_0.4.3-0.6_arm.ipk (15MB)

Mozilla Firefox:

- firefox_0.9-2_arm.ipk (7MB)

Debian Pocketworkstation + OpenOffice:

- xqt-debian-install.zip (2k)
- zaurus-debian-jumbo-v18-b01.tar.gz (95MB)
- zaurus-debian-doc-v18.tar.gz (13MB)
- zaurus-debian-openoffice114.tar.gz (80MB)

Anyway, I am off to catch a plane...

More feedback...

I live in the US (Las Vegas, NV).

* Fri 24 June: Filled out the quote/order form for a C3100 late my time. (PDT)
* Sat 25 June: Received the invoice early AM
* Sat 25 June: Sent payment.
* Sat 25 June: Received confirmation of payment and note that item would ship on Monday.
* Tue 28 June: Received shipment tracking number.
* Sat 1 July: Received Zaurus!

7 days from payment to receipt. Pretty impressive! the only "gotcha" if there is one, is that the price was slightly higher than the website ($20 more). Not trying to stir up trouble, but just a bit of "full disclosure"

The box arrived in great shape, the Zaurus works fine so far. I'd recommend them too...

There is already a C3000 ROM (beta factoring in the 4GB space used a flash), and hence that cant be used for the C1000. There is a similar ROM in the works for C1000 (factoring out the 4GB built in HDD).

So the C1000 ROM in theory should be usable on the C3100 easily.

The C3100 was a real dissapointment - notwithstanding TriSoft's raising the expectation with his "nice surprise" countdown.
It doesnt have any - absolutely ANY REAL technological improvement over the C1000/3000. How depressing can his be.
I guess the Sharp engineers and designers are taking a much needed break while the marketing droids are pushing these incremental upgrades with some "hot" Japanese language learning software over and over again to the market.

We are not impressed.

You are so right. What Sharp is saying to users is "we know you are so dumb and/or desperate for Linux that you will take anything we give you" - and to prove it they actually go as far as to paint an existing model in different color and roll it out as "nice surprise" (of course with a different model number). This is a joke and even people at Sharp must be privatly laughing at all of us - at the same time there is still no one else who has quite cought up with them so for now they can still get away with it.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=83417\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
You too are so right ...
i wonder who will buy the new sl-c3100
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=83436\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I for one will give it serious consideration since I currently don't own a Z. From a new user POV what's not to love other than the higher price? It has the extra storage of the C3k, plus the "more standard" flash configuration of the C1k, which hopefully means it'll be easier to get other ROM support.

Granted, it was a bit of a letdown to see the only real differences were the black case and the extra flash, but it's still a cool machine, right? Sure I'd love to see built-in wifi, et. al. but there's always next year (or month...) And besides, it's not like they called it the C4k to make it sound like it has lots of new features. It's the C3.1k.

Just my  $.02

General Discussion / New Zaurus This Summer?
« on: June 08, 2005, 12:34:39 pm »
I don't own a Zaurus (yet), but I've been following this thread as I ponder which model to buy. This is probably a gross simplification, but it seems to me that the C3100 can be looked at in 2 ways:

1. It's exactly like the C1000, but with the 4Gb HD.
or
2. It's exactly like the C3000, but with more flash RAM.

So if #1 is accurate, am I right in thinking that the ROMs that currently work on the C1000 should work with the C3100 or is there more to it?
