For Sale / Wanted / For Sale: Zaurus Sl-c1000

Just my opinion, but . . .

I like to see a powered-on, working screen in the photos, so that I know the unit functions.

General Discussion / Zaurus SL5500 and Sony Ericsson T610
« on: June 30, 2004, 01:37:52 pm »
I have managed to dial out using my T68 and the 5500.  It didn't feel any faster than an analog CSD connection though.  The slowness may just mean that T-Mobile has lousy GPRS.  I didn't investigate.

I just used the regular Network Wizard, entering the GPRS phone number *99***4# and it made a connection.  I believe the 4# selects the fourth GPRS connection in my phone (?).

5x00 Hardware / 5600 worth it? Or go with 5500?
« on: May 17, 2004, 05:34:02 pm »
If you are serious about the wi-fi, I\'d go with the 5600.  I only have a 5500, but the battery is small.  I get about 50 minutes of usage when running 802.11b.  If you don\'t mind an external battery extender, then that\'s one solution.

Software / TKC PIMS & Sharp Rom 2.37
« on: April 13, 2004, 05:44:04 pm »
I have Sharp 2.37 and the newest TKC PIMS.  I do not get double alarms.

Hmmm, check the tabs in your QT interface, I do remember something \"funny\" with this.  TKC creates a new tab called \"the Kompany\".  I used Tab manager to move the icons to \"Applications\" and they overwrote the original PIMs.

General Discussion / Ambicom Wireless Card Install
« on: April 13, 2004, 05:23:32 pm »
The WL-1100C-CF works perfectly well for me in my 5500, with the Sharp ROM (2.37, so it\'s older, but I think the newer Sharp ROMs work just as well).

What ROM are you using?  My T68m works fine with my 5500, but I am back at Sharp ROM 2.37, because it is known that ROM 3.1 breaks the T68 IrDA.  There was a lot discussion a while back when the version 3 Sharp ROM came out.  Sharp (and others) blame Sony-Ericsson for having a nonstandard IrDA implementation.

One other thing to consider is to buying a bluetooth card and using that with the T68i.

Accessories / Proxim Harmony Wireless CF
« on: March 22, 2004, 06:41:11 pm »
There are two different Proxim Harmony cards.  There\'s the Harmony 802.11b card (newer), and theres the Harmony HRF (home rf) card which is not compatible with 802.11b.  I just thought I\'d mention it.

The 5500 with ROM 2.x had a driver for the HRF card.  I had trouble getting it to work.  It may have been my fault though, I had a Proxim Symphony base station, which was supposed to be compatible, but I got intermittent connections.

5x00 Hardware / Battery bad? Charge lite flashes
« on: February 24, 2004, 08:41:44 pm »
It doesn\'t explain it, maybe the contacts *were* dirty, but:

I put my spare, good, battery in, ran the Z for a few minutes.  Then I put the dead, bad, battery back in, and put it into the cradle immediately.  The charge lite came on!  It did charge, but I\'m not going to trust the battery very much until it proves itself.

Oh, and IIRC, the bad battery died when I was WiFi-ing after the Z warned me to shut down soon.  I should\'ve heeded the advice.  I suppose the voltage dropped too far on one of the cells.

5x00 Hardware / Battery bad? Charge lite flashes
« on: February 23, 2004, 06:47:06 pm »
One of my rechargeable batteries seems bad.  What does it mean when the battery LED flashes when the Z in in its cradle?  The Z does die quickly when I turn it on (hadn\'t backed it up for a month, darn it), so I guess my own answer is, the battery is bad.

So, it\'s rated at 3.7 volts, my multimeter reads 3.6 volts, that seems reasonable to me.

OK, by spare battery reads 4.18 volts, and it works fine.  But still 3.6 volts doesn\'t sound \"bad\".

This is why I\'m still at ROM 2.37 with my 5500.  I use my Ericsson T68 and the 5500 to grab email anywhere via IrDA.  It really bugs me that the new ROM breaks the IrDA dialup.

With 2.37, just fill in the information (phone number, server) in the internet wizard and go.

5x00 General discussions / My battery icon has disappeared
« on: December 10, 2003, 06:08:03 pm »
Geez, I\'ve been trying zaurus.com/dev for days, and nothing.  It\'s a good thing this site was set up.

Anyway, my battery icon disappeared, does someone have a suggestion?  My battery has been running out lately.  That\'s not abnormal, but I was recently looking to see how much juice I had, and I noticed there was no icon in the system tray at the bottom.  Where\'d it go?  How do I get it back?  Is there some config file I need to edit (I\'m a linux novice) ?  Is there a program I can run from the terminal that will show me the status?

(I know, the battery icon isn\'t great -- full, low or really-low, but at least it was something.)

I do have backups on several CF cards.  I had just upgraded to tKcAddressbook and tKcCalendar 2.0-031112 two weeks ago, so maybe that\'s it.  No, I restored my backup from early November and the battery icon is still missing.  I had to go back to a backup that is 6 months old before the battery showed up again.  But then of course, I lose all the notes and emails I\'ve made since then.  I sure don\'t remember all the changes I made over 6 months time.  Some program must have zapped it, but I don\'t know which one.

Has anyone else seen this?

Sharp ROMs / thekompany rom
« on: July 31, 2003, 12:21:53 pm »
Ahh, that\'s the answer I was hoping for.

Then that moves me to the next question, if it syncs fine with Outlook, I don\'t have to worry about migrating all my PIM info from the old (2.37) format to the new 3.10 format?  I can just let it be wiped it out when I flash the new ROM and then synchronize?

Sharp ROMs / thekompany rom
« on: July 30, 2003, 07:21:02 pm »
Is serial sync (with Outlook) supported on the tkc ROM (or the Sharp 3.1 for that matter)??  I\'m still using Win NT on my work computer, which does not support USB.  The serial sync-ing works great, but I\'m still on Sharp ROM 2.37 because it works fine.  I bought the Z mainly to sync with outlook, so the serial connection is pretty important to me.

I\'d *like* a newer ROM.  I haven\'t upgraded from 2.37  \'cuz of the loss of IrDA dial-up too.  I don\'t suppose the tkc ROM fixes the IrDA dial-up to my T68 cell phone?

MOV / Joined M.O.V. ZUG
« on: July 30, 2003, 06:47:47 pm »
Well, I live in NJ, but as I said, I visit fairly often.

And \'Guest\' in Columbus:  the M.O.V. is along the Ohio River valley.  So it\'s not very close for you.  There is an Ohio ZUG that may be closer.  (and . . .  not that it matters, but, I moved from Columbus to NJ 2 years ago)
