SIMpad forum / Load Image Didn't Work, Need Advice

It seems to load OK, but eventually starts showing some errors:
vfat_find_file_entry: fname='/simpad-rootfs.jffs2'
                    dirname=''
                   basename='SIMPAD-ROOTFS.JFFS2'
Could not find file.vfat_file_open: file not found errno=00000016
Could not open source hda1:/simpad-rootfs.jffs2

It's quite some time that I tried this so I might be totally wrong with this but IIRC with the new bootloader the image should be on a CF and loaded from there. I think hda1 refers to the CF disk. Or maybe not?

Doesn't serload provide some kind of monitor?

I think there is a chance that the people who could definitely answer your question no longer read this forum but have moved to the zaurus community.

After connecting the power supply, there are coloured lines all over the display and after some seconds one can see a bluescreen and nothing else happens, no sound or anything else...

The lines are normal on reboot. The blue screen is too but then something should happen after a while -- and you should be able to hear it :-). How long do you wait?

Sharp ROMs / Pdf Viewer Not Working?

hopefully the pdf software will come in handy at some point

If you're able to run X (via pdaxqtrom or so), I personally found xpdf more useful. It lacks integration with the qt-based standard-environment though.

But when I click on the pdf viewer icon nothing happens!

What happens if you start it from the command line?

IMHO qpdf2 isn't very usable anyway. Unfortunately there is AFAIK no free qt alternative.

God knows how long it would take a device like that to boot Windows - and with 1Gb RAM, even unhibernating will be too irritatingly slow to use it as a PDA

Windows also does suspend to ram/sleep, which isn't so slow.

The form-factor looks almost perfect to me. I hope they will sell also it outside of Japan. Any chance to see to get this in a regular store in Europe?

May I ask if there is a functional pdf viewer (about as fast as adobe acrobat reader for win.ce) that supports hyperlinks and maybe bookmarks/table of contents available?

Asus Eee PC / Eee Pc Vs. Cloudbook From Jkkmobile
« on: February 06, 2008, 04:30:43 am »
BTW who is the actual producer of this cloudbook? I see this device under ever changing names. I think in Europe it's sold as s.book (http://www.belinea.com/de/s_line/product_notebook_nu.jsp?node=652&artnr=271040). The bezel is slightly different. But this is esentially the same device isn't it?

Sharp ROMs / Open File With Text Editor

To save and quit in vi you can do either ZZ or :wq<return>.

:x would be another option (write only if the file has changed and exit/quit).

What's the command to open a file with a text editor in konsole?

I don't use cacko but on sharp rom the editor is "textedit".

zeditor works quite well too. If you're willing to work on the console, emacs and vim packages are around somewhere.

Software / Synctoy, A Powertoy From Ms
« on: October 25, 2007, 03:10:02 pm »
[!--quoteo(post=0:date=:name=MS)--][div class=\'quotetop\']QUOTE(MS)[/div][div class=\'quotemain\'][!--quotec--]Support for 800x600 screen resolution;[/quote]

A funny feature for a directory synchronization toy.

You might want to check twice before syncing after summertime-changes if the toy relies on mtimes and doesn't actually check the files' content. The best tool I know for syncing is unison -- even though it has some rough edges.

But what I actually wanted to say/ask: didn't have windows a synchronizing tool from at leas win95 on? I don't know the English name, maybe "brief-case" or something like that.

It's some time but I have used windowmaker for some years (now some years ago). It behaved very well on a 800x600 screen, it is light, can be easily controlled from the keyboard, there is a controll gui, it has useful applets etc.
