Software / Kopi Vs Sunbird: Summertime-related Problem
« on: April 11, 2007, 01:54:31 pm »
Hi,

Since the switch to summertime here in Europe (CET, GMT+1), I experience some slight incompatibilities between Mozilla Sunbird (Win XP) & Ko/pi (@Zaurus SL C3100).

I usually load korganizer.ics in Sunbird as remote/read-only calender. This worked fine all winter long, but now entries from korganizer.ics are displayed 1hr too late in sunbird -- which ... well, made me already miss one meeting.

The timezone setting in ko/pi@zaurus is CET + Summertime. The timezone setting in sunbird@WinXP is Europe/Vienna (no option to set summertime here, so I assume this is done automatically).

When I synchronize korganizer.ics with another file the time settings in the sync'ed file seem correct though. (But synchronizing is no viable solution in this case.)

So, does somebody else experience similar problems? Does somebody have any advice? I tried to solve this problem for several weeks now (well, since the switch to summer time). The only solution I have been able to come up with yet is to wait until autumn -- which is not a viable option, I'd say

Any advice?

Thanks,
Thomas.

Sharp ROMs / Installing Software On 4gb Sd Card
« on: February 10, 2007, 03:21:05 pm »
Hi,

I recently got a 4gb sd card to work with my c3100. I then copied over all the files from my old sd card. So far so good. But now I realized that I can't install software to the new sd card. Whenever I try to use the "add/remove software" dialog I get an "out of disk space" error (it seems they didn't expect a card that big). When I try to install the software from the command line via ipkg the files are copied to /mnt/card/opt/QtPalmtop while the dialog installed them in /mnt/card/QtPalmtop. So this doesn't work either.

Does somebody have an idea of how to make the "add/remove software" dialog work with the 4gb card? Or does somebody know how to use ipkg in a way compatible with this dialog?

BTW the card is only used up to 21% for the moment. So the "no room left" error is simply wrong.

I use standard stock rom with tetsu kernel and some updated sd drivers.

Regards,
Thomas.

Software / Vim 7.0.162 For Sharp Rom
« on: November 29, 2006, 04:33:07 am »
Hi,

Has somebody compiled vim7 for use on a terminal on standard sharp rom images and maybe even created an ipk? The newest I could find for sharp/cacko is 6.3.

General Discussion / Usb Telephone Modem
« on: July 22, 2006, 05:19:23 am »
Hi,

Do you have any suggestions, advices, & experiences with using usb telephone modems? I'm looking for something with the form factor of the apple usb modem 56k[1] but would appreciate a lower price. I use the stock sharp rom (SL C3100). I assume the rom supports this type of device? Do people still use telephone modems? Any problem to be expected?

Regards,
Thomas.

Sharp ROMs / Disable Rotation (c3100)
« on: June 04, 2006, 01:49:46 pm »
Hi,

Is there a way to disable screen rotation? I have a c3100. On resume, the c3100 sometimes wakes up with the screen wrongly rotated. I use the c3100 always in clamshell mode (i.e. as a mini laptop) so I don't need this automatic rotation thing. I nevertheless would like to keep the possibility to rotate the screen manually.

Any help?

Regards,
Thomas.

Sharp ROMs / Opening A File From The Command Line In Qtopia App
« on: April 01, 2006, 06:02:07 am »
Hi,

I assume I can use qcop for this but I wasn't able to find out how.

I want to open a document (say "hello.html") using the default application as if I would double click on the file icon in the document tab. How do I do this? I guess something like qcop QPE/System '+++(QString)' hello.txt would do the job. I tried a view possibilities but all I achieved were interesting crashes.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Thomas.

Hi,

Has somebody succeeded in restoring their own nand flash backup on a c3100? Yesterday, I made a flash backup from the dm service menu. So far so good. But when I tried to restore the backup (same cf card, nothing was changed here) I got a "Wrong format" error. Does somebody know what this error means? A Read/Write error maybe? The backup file has the correct size.

I assume one creates a backup with "2 NAND Flash Back up" on Page 3/3 of the service menu (http://pda.conics.net/c3100/service-menus/) and restores it with "6. Flash restore"? Right?

I eventually managed to restore the backup kindly provided by trisoft which I had already downloaded before but I really would like to be able to restore my own backup.

Cheers,
Thomas.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Windowmaker & (x)vim For Pdaxrom?
« on: November 29, 2005, 08:06:20 am »
Hi,

Yesterday I tried pdaxrom on my slc3100. Looks really great. What I didn't like so much about it was that many windows extended beyond screen limits and that i rather often had to use the stylus to relocate a window.

This made me wonder if there is a windowmaker ipk available? windowmaker can be fully controlled via keyboard and IIRC it doesn't need more resources than does blackbox.

Also, I saw that there is a vim6.3 package in the unstable feed. Can this one be used with rc12? Is a gtk-based version of vim included?

I rather hastly reflashed the original sharp rom (after testing cacko too). But if windowmaker & gvim are available I think I would rather prefer pdaxrom.

Cheers,
Thomas.

Software / Qkonsole In Cacko 1.23
« on: November 29, 2005, 07:52:26 am »
Hi,

I noticed that the version of qkonsole that comes with cacko 1.23 solves some issues with respect to the original qkonsole but introduces one new problem.

Question 1:
Typing international characters (e.g. German umlauts) works well on the cacko version of qkonsole but apparently the extra code, which makes this possible, makes vim & emacs display weird characters instead of these umlauts. Is their a way to circumvent this problem? I now switched back to the original sharp rom because of this. But as there are some goodies in cacko 1.23 that appear worthwile (plus the bug fixes in qkonsole) I would probably prefer using cacko 1.23.

Question 2:
Is their a qkonsole version that fixes the window maximization problem (in the original qkonsole, the window is reset after switching apps) and remembers the font settings (which got lost in the original qkonsole) but doesn't change the input for use with the original Sharp ROM?

Cheers,
Thomas.

Software / Vim & Alt Key & Console
« on: October 22, 2005, 09:59:37 am »
I use keyhelper to map the japanese key next to the control key as the alt key. This works well in most applications but in the console and especially when running vim, this alt key is interpreted as escape key. Do you have some advice on how to prevent vim from interpreting the alt key as escape?

One problem here is to map characters like ~, which is AltGr+'+' on a German keyboard. Now vim understands this as Escape + '+', which is not what I want.

I use this keyhelper.xml file (https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Keyhelper_German_Keyboard_Layout)[1] for my USB keyboard. Does somebody have an idea how to map the tilde or how to make vim correctly interpret this mapping?

Or: is there a chance that there will ever be a 'native' Qtopia based version of vim? As there is a kde port I figure it should be doable somehow. I currently use vim 6.3 (I think I took it from the cacko feed).

Cheers,
Thomas.

Software / Qkonsole & Full Screen Mode
« on: October 22, 2005, 09:53:13 am »
I run vim in qkonsole. When possible I use the full screen mode as the Zaurus display isn't actually big.

While this works quite well most of the time, qkonsole switches back to "windowed" or "semi-windowed" mode after resumes and after switching to other applications and in some other situations.

Is there a way to maintain full screen mode, i.e. make qkonsole switch to full-screen every time its window is moved to the front or activated or similar?

Cheers,
Thomas.

Windows Issues / Usb & Winxp: Accessing Server Running On Winxp
« on: September 13, 2005, 07:41:15 am »
Hi,

I have wwwoffle running on my WinXP box and would like to access it from
my Z (C3100). I have a connection and all up and running, I can ping the
Z from WinXP and use ssh. So the WinXP->Z direction is ok. But I cannot
ping WinXP (I have the basic tcp services installed and ping 127.0.0.1
works). I have the firewall disabled. The winxp has the static IP
192.168.129.10, the Z has 192.168.129.201. Is there a way to determine
what is going wrong here? It might be that I deinstalled something on
the WinXP side that is needed now. (I'm not sure if this info is of any
use but IntelliSync always fails with some kind of communication gone
wrong error -- but this currently isn't important right now.)

Cheers,
Thomas.

Software / Netfront 3.1: Pagewise Scrolling
« on: September 07, 2005, 04:51:02 am »
I use netfront for viewing html pages. While it does a good job on most pages, I don't like the fact that it scrolls pages line by line. Is there a way to make netfront scroll page by page or maybe even better by half-pages?

I don't quite understand yet how to use inputhelper in conjunction with keyhelper. But based on the information I found so far, I suspect that this could be somehow be done by using these applets? Any advice?

Software / Newbie Questions: Console, Text Editors,
« on: September 04, 2005, 09:56:02 am »
Hi,

I'm new to Zaurus (2 days) & Qtopia. In these two days some questions arose, most of which I was able to answer myself. Some questions remain:

#1
Is there a way to display/insert German umlauts or accented characters (like é) in the console window (Terminal or QKonsole)? I got keyhelper to insert the right characters in qte applications but the console seems to be quite stubborn. I guess it has to do with missing or inappropriate fonts. Is there a monospace font ipk around that has these "international" characters (as used in an European context) available? Also is there a font that can display mc's borders correctly? Or is this a totally different problem unrelated to fonts?

#2
What text editors do you use? Up to now I found: vim (for console only), (x)emacs (not tested yet), zeditor (appears to be ok), yedit (ok too), textedit (that came with the zaurus, quite basic), viviscript (scintilla-based, looks very promising, but I can't find out how to make the interaction window that takes half of the screen go away). I would prefer vim but because of problem #1 it's currently not usable. Is there a gtk+-based vim for xqt which I haven't had the chance to test yet?

#3
Is there a way to reset/restart the GUI only? Without rebooting everything? Or: when I change a configuration file like Settings/locale.conf, what is the minimal step to make the gui be aware of this change?

#4
How do I kill processed without refraining to the console? Can this be done from within the gui?

#5
This one is slightly off topic, but anyway: I figured that I could learn some Japanese characters that sometimes pop up when using loosly internationalized programs. I guess the meaning of these Japanese snippets is most often quite trivial like "no permission", "cancelled", and the like. So I guess I wouldn't have to actually learn Japanese to understand the significance of most of these tokens. Does somebody have a tip where to start? Does somebody know of a collection of computer-relevant Japanese characters? What are your experiences with such efforts to learn only some of Japanese?

SIMpad forum / Newbie Question: File Associations
« on: August 11, 2005, 10:36:53 am »
Hi,

This is somewhat of a beginner question. I installed the opie image from http://devernay.free.fr/hacks/opensimpad/20050620/ and managed to get the cf-card and the buttons and everything working. Now I see myself confronted with the following problems:

#1 The document panel doesn't show any files although I told it to show all files

#2 In the file explorer html files are not associated with any application (which is more disturbing). How do I make html files to be opened by double-clicking on them (or by selecting the proper option from the popup menu, i.e. how do I get the "Open in ..." entry?)
