C1000/3x00 Hardware / I'm Selling One Of My Sl-c3100's

why did you upgrade when the 3200 is pretty much identical to the 3100 except for the size of the microdrive?

And color.  -heh-   However, I upgraded because I was given the 3200 as a reward for doing software development.

Hi Guys.

I have followed the instructions from the TRISoft howto restore HD to the letter but still getting the dreaded HDD1 Error!!

Just to sum up, I wiped the drive, used fdisk to make 3 primary partitions, formated them as instructed, created .sys dir's on hda1 and hda2 and copied the files into them. Still getting a HDD1 Error!!

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I read on one of the threads that pressing CTRL+C+D will bypass the HDD1 Error!!  but when I do the Z simply counts from 5 to 0 and reboots.

I found a GREAT walk trough here: http://figlabs.com/restore/ and now have a fully working Zaurus with original software in Japanese

Thought I would put the update here as the above link was not easy to find.

It is -extremely- important to do the following when formatting the hard disks --- mke2fs -j ---   If you do not enable journaling on the filesystem, you will get the HDD Error.  If you do not copy the files into a .sys directory on each drive, you will get the HDD error.    The Zaurus C3x00 is really picky about this, when using the Cacko/Sharp rom.

So, remember:

First partition (/dev/hda1) is cylinders 1-20 type 83
Second partition (/dev/hda2) is cylinders 21-40 type 83
Third partition (/dev/hda3) is the rest of the drive, type c

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Good Prce On A Replacement Battery For The 3100?

I tried the foil route with my 3rd-party batteries and didn't have much luck, even though I could get the charging light to stay on. Using a hobby knife/scalpel to cut away the thin plastic strip between the bottom edge of each terminal and the case seam did wonders to get the battery working, and it only took 30 seconds

The problem isn't really that the contacts are too deep, but that plastic strip presses against the spring contacts and keeps them from reaching the terminals.

I have also purchased these replacement batteries.  They are wonderful, but do require a small bit of delicate modification to trim away the plastic.   A steady hand with an X-acto knife, or a dremel, makes short work of this ... but voids the battery warranty.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / C3100 Dead... :(

if anyone wants to know: the ctrl+c+d-thing also doesn't work...
maybe it's a sign for me that I shouldn't buy so much hardware (new pc, new laptop, 5.1 soundsys, 2 razer mice, sennheiser headphones, etc pp)...

Not at all.  There are some other combinations you should try, and a couple tests, before you give up.   It is possible that the firmware is damaged, and if so, you may want to try the following:

Remove the AC adapter, remove the battery, press the [reset] button, without installing the battery - set the battery door cover latch to closed, press [Q] and [T] while installing the AC plug.    The amber and green LED should come on, then blink.   This is the factory NAND flash mode.

If this works, you will need to go to the trisoft.de site, get the NAND flash image, and copy it to a blank FAT16 formatted 256M SD or CF card.   From there you'll be able to try the [D] [M] (diagnostic menu) page, and even be able to get back to the [OK] [power] factory install.

Good luck!

C1000/3x00 Hardware / I'm Selling One Of My Sl-c3100's
« on: January 11, 2008, 06:03:37 pm »
Hey everyone,

Now that I have an SL-C3200 (thank you Dynamism!) I am selling my SL-C3100 which I only used for software development.   It's in fantastic shape .. so if you've been looking to get one, this may be your day.

I'm using eBay, and the URL link is : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=300189744763

Now that I've had the C3200 apart a couple times, I am going to be posting a full tear-down guide for the C3200, like I did for the C3100.   I am going to be replacing the internal microdrive with one of Hitachi's new 30Gb units.   Wish me luck.

I did the same thing to my first 3100 from Dynamism... Turns out that there are some badly made USB mini-A cables, that connect power to the data pins ... and having 5V at 500mA is BAD for the Z.  So, anyway, dynamism did the "send to japan" repair, and it came back after two weeks good as new.

It's a known problem, especially if you bought an iRiver cable to do mini-A host, and a scary one since it blows both the laptop AND the Z's USB port, if not the entire motherboard.

Go fig.

ATTENTION!!!!

PLEASE DONT USE THE BOOTLOADER FOR C3100 - IT SEEMS TO BUGGY AND YOU MIGHT HAVE TO USE NAND BACKUP!

... and this is why I waited till morning.   Laze, the extracted bootloader is waiting in your inbox.

Ahhhh... I found it.  Spacibe Tovarish!

I will report in the morning how the install went.  I am doing a NAND flash backup first.

Will test tonight.  What do you mean, -change- the bootloader?    That's going to be a biiiiit tricky here, as the only bootloader I'm aware of is the one built into the SL-C3100.

Got one handy, along with instructions on the install?

No need to powder coat it Steve.  Hell, powder coating would just melt the cover down...

All you need is a good (and I mean GOOD) paint to do the job.    I've custom painted my computer cases, laptops, and such with colors from House of Kolor ... beautiful paint, and it goes on soooooooo smooth with an airbrush.

There is, of course, colorwarepc.com too .. for people who like to throw money around.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Exchanged Microdrive With Flash Card (c3000)
« on: September 10, 2005, 02:12:12 am »
I've just installed a SanDisk prerelease 6GB CF card as a replacement for the internal microdrive in my SL-C3100.

I do have to admit, having a high speed CF card really does make a difference.    So now I have the following configuration:

Internal CF card 6Gb (three partitions, EXT3, EXT3, FAT32 similar to the original config)
External SD card 1Gb (Just for music and such, FAT32 filesystem)
External CF 802.11b card for networking

I'll need to post a picture-by-picture takeapart of the process, since dissasembling the 3100 is a bit tricky, and it's knowledge worth sharing.

Beauty in motion.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Rom In C3100?
« on: September 10, 2005, 02:05:47 am »
Before you get lulled into a false sense of security... you CAN brick the unit if you accidentally use the NAND ERASE function of the service menu.

NAND ERASE == BAAAAAAD

That said, only an attempt at a NAND restore would ever get you into that situation.  (With the whole <D><M> boot procedure and all)

Duck Tape.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=95256\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Actually, not a bad idea!  I use a small folded piece of duct tape (black, of course) and it does the job nicely.

Honestly though, your 3000/3100 was just NOT meant for harsh environments.   Like many of the Zaurus machines before it, it's delicate, so if dust and dirt are getting into the slot .. you've got other serious problems on your hand.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Need Help With Scummvm :(
« on: September 10, 2005, 02:00:41 am »
Run the following (under sh/bash)

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib
ldconfig

Of course, you can always just move the libraries into /usr/lib and then ldconfig as well.

libvorbisfile.so.3 is in my /usr/local/lib folder, Im too unexperienced with linux to work out what to do about this....

Anton,

I have a SL-C3100 handy, and so far it's been the guinea pig for a couple OZ pre-3.5.4 attempts, a bit of 2.6 kernel testing, and the like.   If you have any Borzoi related issues to explore .. don't hesitate to knock on my "door" as it were.
