Gemini PDA - Hardware / Is it possible to tighten the hinge?
« on: May 21, 2018, 06:47:53 am »
My Gemini's screen tends to flap around a little when I "thumb type." Does anyone know if it is possible to tighten the hinge?

At the moment there's no way I could hold my Gemini like this without the screen closing:

Gemini PDA - Android / Auto-correction
« on: May 21, 2018, 06:41:53 am »
I'm surprised that this hasn't been discussed more widely. I'm a writer and bought my Gemini as a writing tool. Whilst it's good, auto correct would make it even better.  The software suggests that it should be in place, so I'm disappointed I can't get it to work. Personally I would like this rectified as a priority.

I'm getting an error message, "Connect to the server is unusual, please try again"!

Gemini PDA - Android / New Android update available

Has anyone managed to download this? It seems to start for me, but the thing I presume is a progress bar at the bottom of the page doesn't show any progress at all.

Gemini PDA - Android / Auto-correction
« on: May 18, 2018, 08:19:40 am »
I've found the settings page for "text correction" in the Gemini Keyboard app and have "Auto-correction" enabled but it doesn't appear to do anything. Neither does auto-capitalisation or the double-space full stop in the preferences list.

Has anyone got auto-correction to work yet? At the moment I'm still faster typing on my Blackberry Keyone (with auto-correct).

OK for uk you should start getting shipping emails soon if anyone gets one please post here thank you all and goodluck.

Yes, please do let us know when you get a dispatch notification, UK backers!

Like many others, my order/perk was locked yesterday - #41xx. Hoping to receive this in the next week or so. Looks like my initial predictions might have been a little over cautious!

The Perk/Order checker currently says, "If you selected a US or UK keyboard AND your Order ID is 1-4500, your unit will ship out before mid May. If you did not select a US or UK keyboard layout OR your Order ID is over 4500, your unit will ship end of May."

I believe that the most recent production run is currently being shipped (according to Planet on Indiegogo (2nd May), "UK bound units will ship tomorrow from Hong Kong and so all being well will be at warehouse in the UK mid next week." This would suggest that any order returning the above status on the checker is part of the forthcoming production run. Elsewhere on Indiegogo Planet have stated that SMT for the remaining units starts the week commencing 7th May. I believe that it takes two weeks to go from this point to a completed run, so we're looking at around 18th May for completion. This would suggest shipment to the UK week commencing 21st May, which takes about a week, so arriving in the UK around 28th May.

The next bit is the great unknown. I think the last run took around a week or two to go from arrival in the UK to arriving on backers door steps, but best case scenario would suggest delivery to backers beginning around the 4th June, possibly up to 15th June.

Realistically, therefore, I suspect that anyone who has been told their order will "ship out [from Hong Kong] before mid May" should probably expect delivery during the first half of June. Anyone who has been told their unit will "ship [from Hong Kong] end of May" therefore is probably looking at receiving their Gemini at the end of June. Somewhat later than we have been led to expect.

Does anyone else agree/disagree with this timeline? When do you expect your Gemini to arrive?

If this is accurate I don't know why Planet don't just tell customers to expect delivery in June rather than giving a vague date in May when units will ship from Hong Kong...

A few complaints about the box (not content) being damaged "looked like Hermes had used box as a Football!".
I was surprised Planet used Hermes, hope it wasn't just to save a few quid. DPD BEST in UK imo.

Yes indeed - very minor point, and certainly not a hardware/software issue, but I for one would be most grateful if Planet would consider using a slightly more reputable/faster courier for UK deliveries. DPD would get my vote too.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Has mass production started?

This is the last update I got yesterday:

Shipping will start in Jan (right at end of). We will then have to try to ramp up mass production as quickly as possible to get as many units as we can out before Chinese NY.

I would hope that your unit is part of that first shipment but can’t 100% promise given uncertainties of this being the first one the factory will really be increasing production of Gemini

Just out of interest, when did you back Gemini please?

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / ZX Vega Comparison
« on: January 15, 2018, 05:20:01 am »
Is anyone concerned about comparisons with the ZX Vega project? I know very little about this project, but I've gleaned from unhappy backers on Twitter that money was pledged but no rewards were forthcoming. Apparently some of the people involved with ZX Vega are involved with Gemini. I'm confident that since people like Martin Riddiford are involved with Gemini it is not simply a means of extorting cash, but I'd be interested to know the thoughts of others.

Hopefully we'll get confirmation in the next couple of days that Planet are starting to dispatch units, which will allay any fears we might have!

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Shipping email (I got my Gemini PDA)
« on: January 10, 2018, 03:55:36 am »
It looks like 1850 devices have been sold with current pledges. What I don't know is how many were sold with previous pledges, ie the early bird options that are now no longer available.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / All the keyboard layouts published so far
« on: January 09, 2018, 10:23:27 am »
From Twitter:

Hi. I had a query about the keyboards on the Gemini. On the keyboard questionnaire, it differentiates between different variants of the UK keyboard, including one for use in the UK, and another for use in Europe. What're the differences between these keyboards?

Replying to @Tempest84
There is no difference between keyboard layouts. Just the plug type is different.

Here is a list of the languages from the Smartsheet with a note as to if we have the layout or not:

United Kingdom (UK) keyboard - for use in the UK -- YES
United Kingdom (UK) keyboard - for use in Europe (non-UK) -- NO
United Kingdom (UK) keyboard - for use in Japan -- NO
United States (US) keyboard - for use in the US -- YES
United States (US) keyboard - for use in Europe (non-UK) -- NO
United States (US) keyboard  - for use in Japan -- NO
US International keyboard -- NO
Arabic keyboard -- YES
Austrian keyboard (same as German keyboard) -- YES
Belgian (Flemish) -- NO
Belgian (Wallonian) -- NO
Brazilian -- NO
Chinese keyboard -- NO
Czech keyboard -- NO
Croatian keyboard -- NO
Danish keyboard -- NO
Dvorak keyboard -- NO
Finnish keyboard -- NO
French keyboard -- YES
German keyboard -- YES
Greek keyboard -- YES
Hebrew keyboard -- NO
Hungarian keyboard -- NO
Italian keyboard -- NO
Japanese keyboard (Kana) -- YES
Korean keyboard -- NO
Latin American US International -- NO
Norwegian keyboard -- NO
Polish keyboard -- NO
Portuguese keyboard -- NO
Russian keyboard -- NO
Spanish keyboard -- NO
Swedish keyboard -- NO
Swiss keyboard -- NO
Thai keyboard -- NO

Are some of these keyboards not the same? My understanding (for example) is that all the UK keyboards are exactly the same, but supplied with a different mains adapter specific to each country. (IE UK keyboard for use in UK has a three pronged plug, UK keyboard for use in Europe is the same keyboard, but with a two pronged European plug).
