Yup, same "feature" on my Gemini. I have not tried to track it down and its not too worrying. As you say, you don't seem to hear it when playing audio.

Cheers

Has anyone tried the ancient and venerable technology of wired earphones?

Do you hear faint intermittent 'buzzing' and 'scratching', apparently when cpu is being used, because it becomes more pronounced when scrolling, particularly using the touch screen.

Another way of describing the sound is like dust on a vinyl record during a silent part.

Using keys to scroll still makes the sound but after the key 'bip' sound.

Using bluetooth headsets don't make this soft sound.

I tried turning off both WiFi and Bluetooth to see if that made a difference, none.

When actually playing something, in my case Audible audiobooks, you can't hear the sounds then, stopping playback then I hear faint noises. As you know, Audiobooks are simply spoken so there is lots of silent parts in which the sounds are not audible.

Whilst on the faint sound, has anyone noticed that pressing a key causes the key sound to be played, sometimes, multiple times, terminating the previously started sound, as though the internal debounce mechanism is firing off the sound for each bounce? So, instead of a 'bip', it's sort of like 'b b bip'.

This is under stock android, in case anyone is asking.

Edit: it appears the 'crackling' lessens once the display turns off. Tap the on key so the display lights up, the crackling resumes, once the display goes black again, the crackling becomes very faint, pulsing every second. And no, it's not my heartbeat

Mine also says uncertified, though I have disabled almost all of Goggle except Google Play Services and Goggle Play Store.

Can someone please open Play Store on her/his Gemini, go to Settings, scroll down to Device Certification and tell me if her/his Gemini is Certified or Uncertified? I flashed rooted bootloader, TWRP recovery, magisk manager and then reverted back to stock setup and my Gemini shows Uncertified status. I would like to know what was the status of the stock Gemini :-)
Mine is out-of-the-box standard and shows as Uncertified.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Turning off keyboard sounds?

Thanks,

Sorted! Updated Gemini keyboard app, changed Android sound settings and rebooted.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hi
I am very happy to have the haptic feedback on the keys but I would prefer that the keys didn't make a noise on pressing them. I can't find a setting to control this under the Android settings. Under the Planet keyboard app I can find the possibility of turning off the keyboard sounds under "Configure" and controlling the keybord volume under "Advanced" but neither seems to work.

Has anyone found a way of muting the keyboard sounds without muting all sounds?

Thanks

Hi, that planet keyboard app can be updated from the play store, but even after updating the settings (sound, feedback settings) didn't work for me.
What DID work was restarting the device after applying those settings in the Gemini app. I guess they only read their own config on restart...

So yes, you can definitely turn the sound off.

It worked for me. The normal settings in the Gemini keyboard app. I also turned off touch feedback in the Android settings, not sure if that also influences things.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Camera module delivery?
« on: March 11, 2018, 07:15:06 am »
I am trying to use my Gemini as a replacent for my conventional "slab" phone. So far it seems to work pretty well though I am really missing my forward facing camera. Does anyone know when the optional camera modules will be delivered? Until then I might go back to my old phone for primary use.

Thanks

Hi Varti

Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply. As it happens I emailed PC for their thoughts and they were kind enough to suggest the site https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider...98-a12196cc279c. Even though I am using Win 8.1, a couple of hours ago I gave the suggested procedure a try and SUCCESS!

It was really bugging me.

A bit of a stab in the dark, but could the recently released flashtool drivers for Windows be of any help? Not the flashtool itself, just the drivers for it:

Gemini PDA - Android / Connecting Gemini to laptop

Hi

I case anyone elase has this problem I have found a strange fix. Windows update was telling that there was MTP driver issue and I was to download KB4016754. I am not sure if this is significant. After the update, on plugging in the Gemini Windows took a long time to install a driver. During the process, the Gemini was recognised. After the driver was fully installed the Gemini once again disappeared, same as before KB4016754. In the  Device Manager it was appearing under "Other devices, unknown device". Driver properties indicate an MTD device. Reinstalling the driver via the device manager does not help.

I found a fix as follows.
  • Delete the Gemini (unknown device) from the device manager panel
  • Unplug the Gemini
  • Plug it back in
  • As Windows reinstallls the driver, the Gemini will be recognised
  • Cancel the driver install before completion.
Its totally half-arsed but its the only thing that worked.

Update: It stopped working and I cannot get it back. Needs a new Win 8.1 driver :-(

Hi Joe

The utility you link to is for Mac. My issue is with Windows 8.1 and as far as I can see is a driver problem.

In my experience of Android devices, including my Gemini, the Android File Transfer software works: https://www.android.com/filetransfer/ .

It doesn't actually mount as a USB filesystem, Android has a special protocol (if you look at the Android filesystem APIs, it's a lot more complicated than a single FS!). There may be drivers for Windows, but I'd start with Android File Transfer.

Hi Steve

Once your device is plugged in this option appears when you swipe down from the top of the home screen. You will see "USB charging this device, tap for more options". Tap away!

I hope this helps.

Cheers

geomannie,

Where is this option. I've tried looking everywhere! At first I thought it only appeared if plugged into a PC, but I've tried that and still can't find it!!

Digging further it seems that there is a driver issue. The Gemini is appearing in the device manager as an "unknown device" with no driver, but when I try to get/update the driver I get the message that while Windows found a driver, there is a problem with the inf file.

If I delete the "unknown device" from the device manager and then replug in the Gemini, a driver starts to be installed and the Gemini is briefly recognised during the installation phase. The driver install invariably fails and the device manager reverts to "unknown device". If I look at the Gemini properties during driver installation I get the error below about an inf section being invalid.

I dunno, is the only driver a Win 10 driver and I using Win 8.1? I need to get this sorted for file transfer and for Linux flashing. Help appreciated.

Thanks

As well as having issues connecting my Gemini to a TV using the HDMI adaptor, I am also having problems with that simplest of tasks, connecting to my laptop. The Gemini recongises that it is plugged in, I select the "transfer files" option but the Gemini refuses to appear as a drive in the Windows file manager.

EDIT:
I have sucessfully connected to a laptop running Linux Mint. Could there be a driver issue in Windows (8.1)?

Help appreciated.

Gemini PDA - Android / Using HDMI adaptor under Android

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply. The only thing I hadn't tried was powering up the Gemini while connected. Unfortunately, this does not help.

Other devices (Xbox, Rasberrry Pi) connect OK so I am a bit perplexed. I have tried a different cable as well as all available HDMI ports and TV settings.

Thanks

Oops, of course its K9! I use both and had a senior moment😀.

I appreciate your reply and I know that some buttons appear as you say, but the reply and new email icons are missing in landscape making it hard to use.

Other thoughts appreciated.

Cheers

Thunderbird issue

Despite Thunderbird being a pre-selected app on the Gemini launcher, it seems to perform poorly in landscape mode, but fine if I force rotation to portrait.  The options that normally appear at the bottom of the page are not accessible in landscape mode. it is not possible to scroll down. Anyone else noticed this? Anyone got a fix?

The 2 images show the difference. Note the extra option features in the portrait mode.

Hi

The screenshots are of K9, not Thunderbird.

I've used K9 in both Portrait and Landscape on my phone for ages now - everything is there, but in a different place.

The grey options bar items that you mention as being at the bottom in Portrait mode can be found on the RHS of the top grey bar in Landscape mode.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / microSD file system
« on: March 05, 2018, 06:27:57 am »
Hi

I have tried a 128GD exFAT microSD in my Gemini but its not recognised and asks me to format it. I am not keen as it contains data. Does anyone know the file system that Gemini needs for storage? FAT32?
